◉ Album commentary
“Red Rose Speedway” The album released in 1973. The highlight of this album is the love song “My Love” written by McCartney for his wife Linda. Released as a single and topped the list for four weeks in the United States, the ballad was highly praised by music critics who continued to criticize his work after the Beatles disbanded, and in part for McCartney. It was also praised as a masterpiece since “Yesterday”. He himself frequently plays this song on his later concert tours. “Big Burn Head”, which decorates the beginning of this album, is a song completed by developing the latter half of the song “Ram On” from the album “Ram” released jointly by Mr. and Mrs. McCartney in 1971. Also, “Get on the Right Thing” and “Little Lamb Dragonfly” are the same works that were recorded in the “Lamb” session but were stored in the store, so I used the guitar. It’s not the members of Wings who are playing. McCartney continued to use the Beatles’ method of connecting short, unfinished songs on the B-side of Abbey Road into a medley format since the 1970s. The final track on this album is also an 11-minute medley of four songs. The work “Hold Me Tight” is also included in the Beatles’ 1963 album “With the Beatles”, but this album contains a different song of the same name. In addition to “My Love”, Wings at that time had several hit songs such as the theme song of the same name in the movie “Live and Let Die” and “Hi Hi Hi”, but these are albums. Initially announced, it was not included in the main story. However, when the current version, which was digitally remastered, was released in 1993, the songs released only in some singles were also recorded as bonus tracks. Released as a coupling to “My Love,” The Mess is the only officially announced live take for the early days of Wings. In their early stages, not only McCartney but also his wives Linda and Denny Laine had some lead vocals. “I Lie Around” sung by Rain is the first Wings song that members other than McCartney took the lead in the studio recordings.

『レッド・ローズ・スピードウェイ』1973年に発表されたアルバム。このアルバムのハイライトはマッカートニーが妻リンダに向けて書いたラヴ・ソング「マイ・ラヴ」である。シングルとして発表され、全米で4週間に渡って首位を獲得したこのバラードは、ビートルズ解散後の彼の作品を頭ごなしに批判し続けていた音楽評論家からも高い評価を受け、一部ではマッカートニーにとって「イエスタデイ」以来の傑作とも賞賛された。彼自身もこの曲を後年のコンサート・ツアーで頻繁に演奏している。このアルバムの冒頭を飾る「ビッグ・バーン・ヘッド」は、1971年にマッカートニー夫妻が連名で発売したアルバム『ラム』の収録曲「ラム・オン」の後半部分を発展させて完成した楽曲である。また、「ゲット・オン・ザ・ライト・シング」と「リトル・ラム・ドラゴンフライ」は『ラム』のセッションで録音されたもののお蔵入りになっていたテイクをそのまま流用した作品なので、ギターを弾いているのはウイングスのメンバーではない。ビートルズが『アビイ・ロード』のB面でとった、未完成の短い楽曲をつなげてメドレー形式にする手法をマッカートニーは1970年代以降も好んで使った。このアルバムの最後を飾るトラックも、4つの楽曲から構成される11分のメドレーである。なお、「ホールド・ミー・タイト」という作品はビートルズの1963年のアルバム『ウィズ・ザ・ビートルズ』にも収録されているが、このアルバムに収められているのは同名異曲である。当時のウイングスには「マイ・ラヴ」以外にも、映画『007 死ぬのは奴らだ』の同名主題歌や「ハイ・ハイ・ハイ」などいくつかのヒット曲が存在するが、これらはアルバムが発表された当初本編には収められなかった。しかし、1993年にデジタル・リマスターを施された現行盤が発売された際に、一部のシングルのみで発売された楽曲もボーナス・トラックとして収録された。「マイ・ラヴ」のカップリングとしてリリースされた「ザ・メス」は、黎明期のウイングスにとっては公式発表された唯一のライヴ・テイクである。彼らの初期のステージでは、マッカートニーのみならず妻のリンダやデニー・レインなども一部リード・ヴォーカルをとっていた。レインが歌う「アイ・ライ・アラウンド」は、初めてマッカートニー以外のメンバーがスタジオ録音作品のなかでリードをとったウイングスの楽曲である。
