Therefore, the masterpiece, which has been constantly requested for recurrence, has finally been re-appeared with the latest brush-up. However, since the sound quality itself was the best sound quality that did not need to be modified, we adjusted the unstable parts of the volume that could not be fixed at the time of release in 2014. Also corrected the position of the chapter that was flying before the song switched to “Carry That Weight” which was a general mistake at the time of release. To put it the other way around, this is the only modification that was made during this re-release, and it proved that the JEMS sound source released in 2013 has not faded at all.

Not only the wonderful sound quality, but the performance content was very interesting on this day. 久々のワールドツアーであったことから、ポール・マッカートニー1989年のライブ活動は多くの公演が音源として記録されています。ただしカセット・レコーダーとDATの分かれ目とも言える時期に行われたこともあり、出回っているオーディエンス録音のクオリティにばらつきの傾向がみられました。とはいえ89年と言う比較的近年のツアーだけのことはあり、最近でもツアー開始前のお披露目ショーのアップグレード音源「DRESS REHEARSAL 1989」が、さらには伝説のテーパー、マイク・ミラードまでこのツアーを録音していたのか！と話題になったのも記憶に新しい「L.A. FORUM 1989 FINAL NIGHT: MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES」といったアメリカの公演から素晴らしい音源の発掘が続いています。
このように音源豊富な89年ツアー、中でもアメリカ行程の中になって最も再リリースが望まれていたのが11月27日のLAフォーラムではないでしょうか。何と言ってもこの日はスティービー・ワンダーが「Ebony And Ivory」で飛び入りした奇跡の共演が実現。その模様はリアタイでもCD黎明期にもかかわらずLPのボックスセットという形でリリースされたものの、こちらは89年のオーディエンス録音としてはイマイチなクオリティだったのですが、それでも奇跡の共演を捉えてくれていたことからマニアは有難く聞き込んだのでした。
それからしばらくはLPのB級オーディエンスで聞くしかなかった公演だったのですが、2013年になって突如JEMSがそれまで秘匿されていた別音源オーディエンスを公開。これが従来の音源とは比較にならないほど素晴らしい音質であったことで世界中のマニアが騒然。そんな新音源をすかさず限定プレスCDにてリリースしてみせたのが2014年リリースの名盤「EBONY AND IVORY 1989」。圧倒的な高音質を誇ったJEMSバージョンですが、ピッチの狂いだけならまだしも、「The Fool On The Hill」から「This One」にかけて、アップロードした時点で生じてしまったと思われる細かな音切れをすべて除去し、ちゃんと音楽として聴きこめる状態にアジャストした上でプレスCD化してみせたことで大ベストセラーとなったのでした。

案の定Sold Outとなって久しく、今年に入って奇跡的に残っていた海外のストックを数枚放出した際には争奪戦の様相。それほどまでの人気を誇るのも、ステージ上でスティービーとの「Ebony And Ivory」ライブ・デュエットが実現した瞬間を素晴らしい音質で捉えてくれていたから。実際その音質は89年ツアーのオーディエンス録音の中でもベスト3に入るレベル。もしこれがリアタイでリリースされていたとしたら、とんでもないセンセーションを巻き起こしていたはず。とにかく音像が近くてしかもクリアネスも抜群。あのミラード録音「L.A. FORUM 1989 FINAL NIGHT: MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES」をも軽く凌駕してしまう驚きのクオリティですらあった。
よって以前から再発のリクエストが絶えなかった名盤が遂に最新のブラッシュアップを加えての再登場が実現。もっとも音質自体は手を加える必要のない極上音質であったことから、2014年のリリース当時には直し切れなかった音量の不安定な個所をアジャスト。またリリース当時の凡ミスだった「Carry That Weight」へと曲が切り替わる前にフライングしていたチャプターの位置なども修正。逆に言うと今回の再リリースに際して手を加えたのはこの程度であり、2013年に公開されたJEMS音源が今もまったく色褪せていないことを証明する結果となったのです。

こうした音質の素晴らしさだけにとどまらず、この日は演奏内容がまた非常に面白い。ライブ開始前にスティービーが楽屋を訪れてアンコールでの登場が決まっていたはずで、開始直後からポール以下ステージ上のメンバーからは明らかに「そわそわ」している様子が伺える。それを物語るのがこの日（結果として）一回目の演奏となる「Ebony And Ivory」でして、明らかにテンションが高い。挙句の果てにリンダが一人だけエンディングを余計にコーラスして終わってしまうハッスルぶりもその証拠では。
続く「We Got Married」ではポールが歌っている最中で大きなハウリングが発せられてしまい、彼が思わず嘆きの叫びを上げています。ところが、ここで機転を利かせたのがリンダ。ウイングスの1976年LAフォーラム最終日、「Let Me Roll It」演奏中に同じようなハプニングが起きた際にポールが「フィードバック！」と叫んだ場面はマニアに良く知られるところですが、正に彼女がそれを思い出したかのごとく「フィードバック！」と叫んでいるのです。何しろ音が抜群に良いので、こんなマニアをニヤリとさせるハプニングまでしっかり聞き取れるのがまた魅力。
そしてこの日のフォーラムに居合わせた観客は結果として「Ebony And Ivory」を二回聞けた訳ですが、それだけにアンコールでスティービーが登場した時の盛り上がり、それを受けて始まった奇跡のライブ・デュエットは絶品。初心者からマニアまで安心して楽しめる抜群な音質のおかげで、彼を迎えたポールやバンドが本当に楽しそうに演奏している様子も実にリアル。そんな奇跡の瞬間が極上オーディエンスにて捉えられたことに感謝せずにはいられません。この場面の前にアンコールの幕開けとしてポールが弾き語るキー上げバージョン「Yesterday」も懐かしい。89年ツアーにおける伝説の一日を最高の音質で捉えてくれたオーディエンス・アルバムの大名盤が遂に復活！
