Paul Di’Anno has successfully completed knee surgery with the support of IRON MAIDEN. The latest pro shot is here.
This work was filmed on “October 1, 2022 in Wurzburg”. It is a multi-camera pro shot when appearing at the metal festival “KEEP IT TRUE RISING II”. Diano has announced his retirement several times, which is confusing, but roughly speaking, he toured until April 2016. After that, he has not been active in music since he was urgently hospitalized during the Brazilian tour, and his retirement live, which was announced in 2020, was also canceled due to the new corona pandemic. The news that came in 2021 was that he was staying in Croatia for a long time to treat his knee and was collecting his medical expenses with crowdfunding.
In the end, crowdfunding alone did not raise enough funds, but Iron Maiden came to the rescue. He provided the shortfall and successfully completed knee surgery last month (September 12, 2022). And it was “KEEP IT TRUE RISING II” that Diano appeared in public for the first time after the surgery (by the way, in May of this year, he performed live only once in Croatia, where he was staying, before surgery).
“KEEP IT TRUE RISING II” is a tear-jerking steel festival where famous bands from yesteryear gathered together. Over 3 days, 30 groups including SAXON, RIOT V, DIAMOND HEAD, TYGERS OF PAN TANG, SATAN, HOLOCAUST, VENOM INC., etc. participated. GRIM REAPER, whose Steve Grimmett passed away the other day, also appeared as a tribute band. Our Diano appeared on the second day in the position next to SAZON/DIAMOND HEAD.
The pattern was taken professionally and released. This work is a DVD version of the distribution video. As you can imagine from the lineup, “KEEP IT TRUE RISING II” is also a festival with a slightly handmade feel. Therefore, I feel that the number of cameras is a little small to promote this work as “completely official grade!” In the first place, Diano still sings in a wheelchair on top of the narrowness of the on-site stage where hair grows in the club. Very little movement. It’s not a flashy action live, but the number of cameras is enough.

At the Croatian performance in May (before surgery), I also did BATTLEZONE and punk covers, but here, all the songs are filled with IRON MAIDEN numbers, probably because it is a short set of about 1 hour. And the singing voice that spells the masterpiece group approaches the heart. To be honest, there are many dangerous scenes where I lose track of the song because it is the first stage in 6 years, but the singing voice of the originator is unrivaled. There are plenty of songs that the original family has not played for a long time, such as “Purgatory”, “Charlotte The Harlot”, and “Killers”, and it is a stage that makes your heart hot.
Although she is in a wheelchair in this work, which is still half a month after her surgery, she is said to be able to stand on her own feet eventually. Also, you may be able to see a stage where you stride like a bear. The revival of Paul Di’Anno, who has given up many times saying “I can’t do it anymore”. Please, please witness it in this work of the best professional shot.

そんな本作が撮影されたのは「2022年10月１日ヴュルツブルク公演」。メタルフェス“KEEP IT TRUE RISING II”に出演した際のマルチカメラ・プロショットです。幾度か引退宣言もしていてややこしいディアノですが、ざっくり言いますとツアー活動を行っていたのは2016年４月まで。その後、ブラジル・ツアー中に緊急入院して以降は音楽活動を行っておらず、2020年に告知されていた引退ライヴも新型コロナ・パンデミックで中止。2021年に入ってきたニュースと言えば、ヒザの治療の為にクロアチアに長期滞在し、医療費をクラウド・ファウンディングで集めているというものでした。
結局クラウド・ファウンディングだけでは十分な資金が集まらなかったのですが、そこで助け船を出したのがIRON MAIDEN。不足分を提供し、先月（2022年９月12日）、無事にヒザの手術を終えました。そして、そんなディアノが手術後初めて公の場に姿を現したのが“KEEP IT TRUE RISING II”だったわけです（ちなみに今年５月にも滞在先のクロアチアで１回だけライヴを行っていますが、まだ手術前でした）。
そんな“KEEP IT TRUE RISING II”は、往年の名バンドが一堂に会した感涙モノの鋼鉄フェス。３日間の開催でSAXON、RIOT V、DIAMOND HEAD、TYGERS OF PAN TANG、SATAN、HOLOCAUST、VENOM INC.等々など30組が参加。先日スティーヴ・グリメットが亡くなったGRIM REAPERもトリビュートバンドとして出演していました。我らがディアノは２日目にSAZON／DIAMOND HEADに次ぐポジションで登場しました。
その模様はプロショット撮影されて公開。本作は、その配信映像をDVD化したものなのです。ラインナップからご想像いただけるように“KEEP IT TRUE RISING II”はやや手作り感のあるフェスでもある。そのため、本作も「完全オフィシャル級！」と喧伝するにはややカメラ台数が少ない気もしますが、画質／音質は大声で宣言できる極上ぶり。そもそも現場ステージがクラブに毛の生えたような狭さの上に、ディアノは今も車椅子で歌う。動きがほとんどない。ド派手アクションのライヴではなく、カメラ台数も十分だったりします。
そんな超美麗プロショットで描かれるのは、６年ぶりにステージに帰還したディアノの勇姿。ここで、セット内容も整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。５月のクロアチア公演（手術前）にはBATTLEZONEやパンクのカバーなどもやっていましたが、ここでは約１時間のショート・セットなせいか全曲IRON MAIDENナンバーで埋め尽くされています。そして、その名曲群を綴る歌声が胸に迫る。正直なところ、６年ぶりのステージという事もあって曲を見失うヤバいシーンも多かったりするのですが、やはりオリジネイターの歌声は強力無比。「Purgatory」「Charlotte The Harlot」「Killers」など、本家も長らく演奏していない曲も盛りだくさんで、胸が何とも熱くなるステージなのです。
手術からまだ半月の本作では車椅子姿ですが、いずれは自分の足で立てるようになるとのこと。また熊のようにノシノシと闊歩するステージが観られるようになるかも知れません。これまで何度も「もう無理だ」とあきらめてきたポール・ディアノの復活。どうぞ、極上プロショットの本作で目撃してください。
