Pantera restarted with Zakk Wylde/Charlie Benante. An original recording that allows you to fully experience the latest Japanese performance that has been acclaimed is now available.
The performance of “March 25, 2023: Intex Osaka” is imbued in this work. It is the best audience recording when I served as a bird of “LOUD PARK” which was revived for a limited time. This is the first time for us to report on the reunion (we will call it this way for convenience) PANTERA. It’s also a good opportunity, so let’s first take a bird’s-eye view of the overall picture of our activities.

This is the schedule for the reunion Pantera that has been announced so far. The above is just the Pantera show, and Zack and Charlie are also on tour with their own bands. A full-fledged reunion tour will start in Europe in May, but this visit to Japan is positioned as a preliminary battle. The Osaka performance of this work was the first day for Japan, and it was also the show since South America last year. Actually, here is the point. In fact, during last year’s South American tour, Rex Brown was infected with the new Corona. Although the tour itself was completed with a substitute, there were only 3 performances of the official 4-person show. In other words, this work is the 4th performance with full satisfaction. It was also a show where collectors all over the world were expecting the best recordings.
And this work is a superb product that meets the expectations of the whole world. After all, it was Mr. “West Japan’s strongest taper” familiar to us who made this work a thing. He is a virtuoso who boasts one of the best abilities in modern Japan, and especially when it comes to recording HR / HM, there is no one to match. Moreover, this “strongest” Mr. is full of spirit. Speaking of the former “LOUD PARK” after all, the tiger’s hole where Mr. “Strongest” repeatedly recorded and improved his skills like a warrior training. There is no reason not to burn with the revival of such a famous festival.
And the sound of this work is the gift of such spirit. Although it feels a little different from the usual “just like a sound board” for festivals, there is no change in the sense of distance. A very thick core looms in front of you, and there is no feeling of emptyness that you can imagine by saying “audience recording”. It also sucks in a slight hall sound, but it creates thickness and rushing power without hiding the details. It is a superb recording that is much more powerful and dynamic than a bad soundboard.
The reunion Pantera’s full show that the whole world is holding their breath is depicted with such a powerful sound. First of all, let’s organize from the featured set list.

… and it looks like this. For reference, I compared it with “OFFICIAL LIVE: 101 PROOF”, but the set, content and meaning are different. It’s not a bird’s-eye view of the career, but it is zero from “Kamakubi” with “vulgarity” and “brain killing” as the two axes. The overtly biased balance clearly shows the era they are aiming for and is refreshing.
And above all, the performance itself is super powerful. Zack and Charlie had declared in advance that they were “not willing to copy”, but it was amazing because it was exactly what they said and there was no discomfort. Zack, in particular, has a deep understanding of Dimebag’s riffs and oblivions. It fits perfectly into the world of Pantera while exuding an indelible “personality”.
The reunion PANTERA has caused controversy due to its past history. However, the live that was actually unfolded was extremely powerful, and I was convinced with all my strength. It was a performance in Japan that showed off the Pantera style. In this work, you can experience such a full show with the best sound of the sound board barefoot. A new masterpiece from Japan that the whole world has been waiting for. It’s a majestic birthday here!

そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「2023年３月25日：インテックス大阪」公演。限定復活した“LOUD PARK”のトリを務めた際の極上オーディエンス録音です。当店で再結成（便宜上こう呼ばせていただきます）PANTERAをレポートするのは本作が初。良い機会でもありますので、まずは活動の全体像を俯瞰してみましょう。

これが現在までに公表されている再結成PANTERAのスケジュール。上記はあくまでPANTERAのショウだけで、ザックやチャーリーは自分のバンドでのツアーも行われています。本格的な再結成ツアーは５月のヨーロッパから始まるわけですが、今回の来日はその前哨戦的な位置づけ。本作の大阪公演は対日初日であり、昨年の南米以来となるショウでもありました。実は、ここもポイント。実は昨年の南米ツアーでは途中でレックス・ブラウンが新型コロナに感染。ツアー自体は代役を立てて完遂されたものの、正式な４人で行われたショウは３公演だけでした。つまり、本作は満を持しての４公演目。全世界のコレクターが極上録音を期待しまくっているショウでもあったのです。
そして、本作は全世界の期待に見事応える極上品。何しろ、本作をモノにしたのは当店お馴染みの“西日本最強テーパー”氏。現代の日本でも屈指の実力を誇る名手であり、特にHR/HMを録らせたら右に出る者はいない匠です。しかも、今回の“最強”氏は気合い十分。何と言ってもかつての“LOUD PARK”と言えば、“最強”氏が武者修行のように録音を重ねて腕を上げていった虎の穴。そんな名フェスの復活に燃えないわけがないのです。
そして、本作のサウンドはそんな気合いの賜。フェスだけにいつものような「まるでサウンドボード」とはちょっと違う感触なものの、距離感がない事に変わりなし。極太な芯が目の前にグイグイと迫り、「オーディエンス録音」と言って想像するようなスカスカ感がまるでない。ほんのりとしたホール鳴りも吸い込んではいるのですが、それがディテールを隠すことなく厚みと突進力を生み出している。下手なサウンドボードよりも遙かに強力でダイナミックな極上録音なのです。
そんな剛力サウンドで画かれるのは、全世界が固唾を飲んで見つめる再結成PANTERAのフルショウ。まずは注目のセットリストから整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。一応参考までに『OFFICIAL LIVE: 101 PROOF』と比較しておきましたが、セットも内容も意味合いも違う。キャリアを俯瞰するわけではなく『俗悪』と『脳殺』を２本軸として『鎌首』からはゼロ。あからさまに偏ったバランスは彼らの狙う時代がハッキリと現れていて清々しくもあります。
そして何より、演奏そのものが超・強力。ザックやチャーリーは事前に「コピーする気はない」と宣言していたわけですが、その言葉通りでありつつ違和感もないからスゴい。特にザックはダイムバッグのリフとオブリを深く理解しているのしょう。消しようもない「自分らしさ」を滲ませながらPANTERAの世界にピタッとはめているのです。
かつての経緯もあって物議を醸している再結成PANTERA。しかし実際に繰り広げられたライヴは極めて強力で、力尽くで納得させてしまった。まさにPANTERA流を見せつけるような来日公演でした。本作は、そんなフルショウをサウンドボード裸足の極上サウンドで体験できるのです。全世界も待ち望んでいる日本発の新名盤。ここに堂々の爆誕です！
