Randy Rhoad’s last legendary soundboard album “KALAMAZOO 1982”, which appeared in the fall of 2020 and was sold out and out of print in a blink of an eye. In response to enthusiastic requests, it will be restocked at the 2nd press!
“February 9, 1982 Kalamazoo performance” is recorded in this work that shocked enthusiasts all over the world. This is a stereo sound board recording recorded one month and 10 days before the tragic plane crash. This sound board has long been known as a standard broadcast sound source, but this work is the latest excavation version. It is an upgrade board digitized from the 1st Gene Copy. First of all, the position of the show before the quality you care about. The Randy era was also a time of intense member changes, so let’s look back on that process.

《Randy Rhoad dies on March 19》

This is the path that Randy & Ozzy walked on a three-legged race. The Kalamazoo performance of this work was the 21st performance of “North America # 2b”, the last concert in my life. This work is the highest peak update board of the stereo sound board recorded at such a show, but the upgrade spans both length and sound. First of all, the length is definitely the longest in history. Actually, there are some that have been released longer than this work, but that is because the pitch is out of order. Of course, the pitch of this work is just right, and if the opening “Diary Of A Madman” is longer than the existing group, there will be no fade-out at the end of the performance. The performance of the day is accurately recorded for the longest time.
And the sound. This is also the highest ever. It is the same as the conventional version that the air check of the radio is different from the “official class”, but the clearness is not comparable. In the past, the master had a muffled bass and a tight hiss noise, but this work has improved such a weak point. The crisp distortion of the treble is also much cleaner.
Randy’s last enthusiastic performance left in the line recording is drawn with such an upgrade sound. I usually analyze the set, but in the Randy era, it basically conforms to “TRIBUTE”, and the rare songs that I can’t listen to there are about “Over The Mountain”. This time, let’s change the taste and organize the Saudboard collection of the Randy era.

… And it looks like this. As a matter of fact, I can’t say all of the above because the official version of “OZZY LIVE” hasn’t been clarified, but it’s probably all. As you can see from the above schedule, there are only two soundboards since Don Airey joined in 1982, and this work is the last one.
And I’m glad that this sound board has a vivid keyboard and a mix that makes the guitar boil. Overall, it’s a solid mix that’s almost monaural, but the stereo feeling increases dramatically in the scene where the guitar plays delicious phrases such as the solo of each song, the intro of “Crazy Train”, a little grease, etc. Jump left and right (some are overdubbed !?). It’s so exciting that it’s hard to say “official class”, but what’s the matter? Anyway, the big success just to say is refreshing. The sound of this work is clearer and more edgy than the previous version, so it is also a live album with a feeling of exhilaration that declares “Randy Rhoad is here!”

Forty days after this work, Randy died of non-work and became an eternal existence. Each of the phrases he left behind is still shining, but the Kalamazoo performance is the last line recording. It is a blissful live album in which his beautiful melody flows into the brain without passing through space. And this work is a new masterpiece that updates the longest and highest peak in its history. A special piece from Ozzy & Randy’s soundboard collection. これがランディ＆オジーが二人三脚で歩んだ道のり。本作のカラマズー公演は生前最後の「北米#2b」の21公演目にあたるコンサートでした。本作は、そんなショウで記録されたステレオ・サウンドボードの最高峰更新盤なわけですが、そのアップグレードぶりは長さとサウンドの両面に渡る。まず長さですが、間違いなく史上最長。実のところ本作よりも長い既発もあったりするのですが、それはピッチが狂っているから。もちろん本作のピッチはビシッとジャストですし、既発群に比べて冒頭の「Diary Of A Madman」も長めなら、終演の瞬間もフェイドアウトなし。当日の演奏を正確に、もっとも長く収録しているのです。
そして、サウンド。これもまた過去最高。いかにもラジオのエアチェックで「オフィシャル級」とは風情が違うのは従来版と同じですが、スキッとしたクリアさは比較にならない。従来マスターは低音がモコモコしていてヒスノイズもキツめだったのですが、本作はそんなウィークポイントがグッと改善。高音のシャリシャリした歪みもずっとスッキリしているのです。
そんなアップグレードサウンドで描かれるのは、ライン録音で残されたランディ最後の熱演。普段ならセットの分析をするところですが、ランディ時代は基本的に『TRIBUTE』に準じており、そこでは聴けない貴重曲は「Over The Mountain」程度。今回は趣向を変えてランディ時代のサウドボード・コレクションを整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。実のところ、公式盤『OZZY LIVE』の解明が進まない事もあって上記で全部とは断言できないのですが、恐らくは全部。上の日程と合わせてみると分かりますが、ドン・エイリーが加入してからのサウンドボードは1982年の２本だけであり、本作こそが最後の１本なのです。
そして、このサウンドボードはキーボードも鮮やかで、さらにギターが沸き上がるミックスなのが嬉しい。全体的にはモノラルに近い固まったミックスなのですが、各曲のソロや「Crazy Train」のイントロ、ちょっとしたグリス等、ギターが美味しいフレーズを弾くシーンで猛烈にステレオ感が増大し、凄い幅のパンで左右にブッ跳ぶ（一部でオーバーダブもしている!?）。あまりにも豪快なために「オフィシャル級」とは言い難かったりするのですが、それがどうした！と言わんばかりの大活躍がとにかく爽快。本作のサウンドは従来版よりもクリアでエッジも効いているため、まさに「ランディ・ローズここにあり！」を満天下に宣言するような高揚感に包まれるライヴアルバムでもあるのです。

本作の40日後、ランディは非業の死を遂げ、永遠の存在となりました。彼が遺したフレーズの１つひとつは今なお輝きを失っておりませんが、カラマズー公演はその最後のライン録音。空間を通さずに彼の美旋律が脳内に流れ込む至福のライヴアルバムなのです。そして、本作はその史上最長・最高峰を更新する新名盤。オジー＆ランディのサウンドボード・コレクションの中でも特別なる１枚。どうぞ、永久保存の2ndプレスCDでいつでも、いつまでもご堪能ください。

《Randy Rhoad dies on March 19》

This is Randy’s last US tour. This is a zoomed version of “North America # 2” as described in the main story. There are 6 existing live albums, the main press CDs “KALAMAZOO 1982” and “HOWLING BLIZZARD (disc 2)” are sound boards, and the remaining 4 are audience recordings. The Albuquerque performance of this work is the earliest of them. Yes, it’s the first live album of two classic HR heroes, Randy and Don Airey.
The sound of this work is also excellent. If you’re a enthusiastic collector, you might say “1982’s Raidy is’MILWAUKEE 1982′!”, But this work has received the second highest evaluation. I often use expressions such as “one of the best recordings” and “a brand that competes for 1 and 2”, but that’s exactly what it says. It’s a live album called “4th including SBD, 2nd for AUD only”.
In fact, the sound is neat and vivid. It is the highest peak master loved as “RHOADS WAY (disc 2)” of the Shades label, and although it does not have a soundboard-like adhesion, the fine and natural sound does not give a sense of distance, and it is in the middle The core that penetrates is also powerful. Ozzy’s vocals reach the ears clearly, word by word, and Randy’s crazy obli shines brilliantly. Although it is so powerful, it does not chatter at the peak, and it has nothing to do with “kinkin treble” and “squash bass”. It is one that you can fully enjoy the beauty of the audience.
And the full show drawn with such a sound is also wonderful. The set is the same as the main press CD, so I will omit it, but Ozzy is in great shape on this day. The voice grows well from the opening, and I can sing firmly. If Ozzy, who is the biggest anxiety factor, is in great shape, the band will gain momentum. The key is, of course, Randy & Don. In that intro of “Mr. Crowley”, Don gives a unique flavor to the profound and splendid world, and if Randy touches it to immerse himself in that world, he will repeat phrases that are likely to break (Ozzy says “Say Hi to” after the end. The place called “Randy For Me” also comes alive). Furthermore, when it comes to the intertwining of the two colors, the medley of “Revelation (Mother Earth)” and “Steal Away (The Night)”. It’s hard to put into words, but Don doesn’t think “let’s trace” because he is the only originator. He is spinning a phrase that expands on the inspiration when he first came up with his phrase. Then, while presenting the splendid and delicate world view, Randy’s guitar suddenly goes wild and raging, and develops a song that flips through with a sense of speed. The scene where the two senses who made “BLIZZARD OF OZZ” a masterpiece in the masterpiece talk on the stage … It’s just a breathtaking and beautiful look.

Ozzy and Randy, who were the cornerstones of the original BLIZZARD, and Don Airey. The three of them lined up on stage only on the last US tour, even during the short Randy era. This work is one of the best recordings that lets you experience such a precious scene 100% of the time. これがランディ最後の全米ツアー。本編解説で言うところの「北米#2」をズームしたものです。現存するライヴアルバムは６本あり、本編プレスCD『KALAMAZOO 1982』と『HOWLING BLIZZARD（のディスク２）』はサウンドボードで、残り４本がオーディエンス録音です。本作のアルバカーキ公演は、その中でももっとも初期のもの。そう、クラシカルHRの２大英雄ランディ＆ドン・エイリーが並び立った最初のライヴアルバムなのです。
そんな本作は、サウンドも絶品。気合いの入ったコレクター諸氏なら「1982年のライディと言ったら『MILWAUKEE 1982』！」となると思いますが、本作はそれに続く２番手評価を受けている。よく「屈指の名録音」「１・２を争う銘品」等という表現を用いますが、その言葉通り。「SBD含めて４番目、AUDだけなら２番目」というライヴアルバムなのです。
実際、そのサウンドは端正で鮮やか。Shadesレーベルの『RHOADS WAY（のディスク２）』としても愛されている最高峰マスターでして、サウンドボード的な密着感はないものの、きめ細やかでナチュラル鳴りは距離感にならず、そのド真ん中を貫く芯も力強い。オジーのヴォーカルは歌詞の１語１語までハッキリと耳元に届き、ランディの舞い狂うオブリがキラキラと輝いて感じられる。それだけパワフルでありながらピークでビビる事もなく、「キンキン高音」「スカスカ低音」とも無縁。オーディエンスン等ではの美しさを十分に味わえる１枚なのです。
そして、そんなサウンドで描かれるフルショウがまた素晴らしい。セットは本編プレスCDと同じなので省略しますが、この日はオジーが絶好調。オープニングから声の伸びも良く、しっかりキッチリ歌えている。最大の不安要素であるオジーが絶好調となれば、バンドも俄然勢いづく。その要と言えば、もちろんランディ＆ドン。「Mr. Crowley」のあのイントロではドンが重厚華麗な世界に独自の味付けを聞かせ、その世界に浸り込むようにランディも触れれば壊れそうなフレーズを連発する（終了後にオジーが“Say Hi to Randy For Me”と言うところもグッと来ます）。さらに２人のカラーが絡み合うと言えば「Revelation (Mother Earth)」と「Steal Away (The Night)」のメドレー。言葉にはしづらいのですが、ドンはオリジネイターだけあって「なぞろう」と思っていない。自分のフレーズを最初に思いついた時の閃きをそのままに拡大させたようなフレーズを紡いでいるのです。そして、その華麗で繊細な世界観を提示する中、ランディのギターが突如ワイルドに荒れ狂い、切れ込むようなスピード感のうちにめくるめく曲を展開していく。『BLIZZARD OF OZZ』を名盤中の名盤にした２人のセンスがステージで会話する現場……ただただ、息を呑む美しく目映いのです。

オリジナルBLIZZARDの要だったオジーとランディ、そしてドン・エイリー。この３人がステージで並び立ったのは、短いランディ時代でも最後の米国ツアーだけでした。本作は、そんな貴重な現場を本生100％体験させてくれる屈指の名録音なのです。生涯最後のサウンドボード・アルバムである本編プレスCD『KALAMAZOO 1982』と併せ、ランディ最晩年の輝きをたっぷりと味わってください。
