The Randy Rhoad era was full of brilliance that was too special in Ozzy Osbourne’s career. A masterpiece live album that enriches the collection is now available in full version.
It was “July 24, 1981 London performance” that was imbued with this work. Audience recordings recorded in a city in Ontario, Canada, not in the hometown of England. Ozzy & Randy started their live performances in September 1980, and Randy died in March 1982. It was a short golden age of about a year and a half. During that time, there were minor member changes, so let’s check the position from the overall picture of the activity here.

This is the live history of Ozzy & Randy. This work is a live album recorded in the first act of “North America # 1”. In addition, this “North America # 1” is the center of their activities, and it is this leg that the official board “TRIBUTE” was born. This is the live album archive of “North America # 1”. The “*” mark is a show that can be enjoyed in our collection, and the “・” mark is in between. Of course, the symbol was the official “TRIBUTE”, and the complete version was our “DEFINITIVE TRIBUTE (Zodiac 294)”. “TRIBUTE” was mainly produced from the Cleveland performance and the Montreal performance, but the London performance of this work was in the middle, and it was a concert at the same time.
Such a stage is also known for having a wonderful audience recording, and has become one of the classics for a long time. This work is also such a traditional recording, but the highest peak is updated. Although it is a master produced by an overseas core enthusiast, “length” has a stronger impact than the polished sound. If you remember the previous episode, it would come as a surprise, but in fact, the London recording had some momentary pauses, which made me feel uncomfortable. In this work, such a recording omission part is complemented by another performance. It is a reproduction of the whole view of the show.
Of course, the complementary part is as thin as possible in “TRIBUTE”. Using the Toronto recording that will be 3 days after the main London performance (= the day before the Montreal performance). The first few seconds of “Carmina Burana” and “I Don’t Know” that announce the start, and even a drum solo are patched. Moreover, this is not surprisingly uncomfortable. Since there are differences in timbre, I wouldn’t say “I don’t know how to switch”, but the quality itself is the same, so I don’t feel disappointed. What’s more, another performance of Haz, which would not normally be connected, is addicted to it. It’s as natural as “Is there another recording for this show?”
Short-lived guitarist: Randy Rhoad’s climax and peak as a vocalist for Ozzy, “Summer 1981”. It is a live album that you can witness in the season that will never return. The joy of being immersed in the whole view of the miracle show is irreplaceable, which is why you want to touch many live performances even in one performance. This work is one of the healing pieces that moisturizes the dryness of such enthusiasts (although it is a patch in another performance). Please take this opportunity to chew carefully.

★ Vintage audience recording of “July 24, 1981 London Performance (Canada)”. A master produced by Core Mania, the part of the recording omission that was in the original sound is complemented by another performance. It is a live album that reproduces the whole view of the show. The supplementary part also uses the latest Toronto recording (July 27). Both live performances are at the same time as the Montreal performance of “TRIBUTE” (July 28th), and you can experience the legendary scene with 100% sound.

そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「1981年７月24日ロンドン公演」。故郷イギリスではなく、カナダ・オンタリオ州の都市で記録されたオーディエンス録音です。オジー＆ランディがライヴ活動を始めたのは1980年９月で、1982年３月にはランディが死去。約１年半という短い黄金時代でした。その間には細かなメンバーチェンジもありましたので、ここで活動の全体像からポジションを確かめてみましょう。

これが「北米#1」のライヴアルバム・アーカイヴ。「＊」印は当店コレクションで楽しめるショウであり、「・」印はその合間です。もちろん、象徴となるのは公式『TRIBUTE』であり、その完全版が当店の『DEFINITIVE TRIBUTE（Zodiac 294）』でした。『TRIBUTE』は主にクリーヴランド公演とモントリオール公演から制作されたわけですが、本作のロンドン公演はその中間であり、まさに同時期のコンサートだったわけです。
そんなステージは素晴らしいオーディエンス録音が残された事でも知られ、以前から定番の１つともなってきました。本作もまたそんな伝統録音ではありますが、さらに最高峰を更新。海外のコア・マニアが制作したマスターなのですが、磨き込んだサウンド以上に強力インパクトなのが「長さ」。既発をご記憶の方ならピンと来ると思いますが、実のところロンドン録音は一瞬の一時停止が何ヶ所かにあり、そこで「あれ？」と違和感を生んでもいました。本作では、そんな録音漏れのパートを別公演で補完。ショウの全景を再現したものなのです。
もちろん、補完パートも可能な限り『TRIBUTE』に肉薄。メインのロンドン公演の３日後（＝モントリオール公演の前日）となるトロント録音を使用。開演を告げる「Carmina Burana」や「I Don’t Know」冒頭の数秒、さらにはドラムソロをパッチしています。しかも、これが意外なほどに違和感がない。音色の差異はあるので「切り替えが分からない」とまでは申しませんが、クオリティ自体は同格なのでガッカリ感はなし。しかも、本来であれば繋がらないハズの別演奏がものの見事にハマッている。「このショウに別録音なんてあったっけ？」というほど自然なのです。
薄命ギタリスト：ランディ・ローズの絶頂であり、オジーにとってもヴォーカリストとしてピークにあった「1981年の夏」。二度とは戻らぬ季節に立ち会えるライヴアルバムです。奇跡のショウ全景に浸りきれる喜びは何物にも代え難く、だからこそ１公演でも多くのライヴに触れたくなる。本作は（別公演でのパッチとは言え）そんなマニアの乾きを潤してくれる癒やしの１枚。どうぞ、この機会にじっくりと噛みしめてください。
