Olivia Newton-John made her last visit to Japan in 2015 to celebrate her 45th anniversary. Introducing the best original recording of the world’s first public that conveys the scene.
Engraved on this work is the “April 27, 2015: Orchard Hall” performance. It is a superb audience recording that vacuum-packed the full show from the front row. First of all, let’s look back at the schedule of her visit to Japan, which was too memorable for her last life, and check the position of the show.

A total of 6 performances. Olivia’s last performance in Japan was “Pray For Fukushima”, a memorial performance for the Great East Japan Earthquake, but before that, a compact circuit in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka. Three consecutive performances were held at Orchard Hall in Tokyo, and this work was recorded on the first day.
This work, which conveys such a show, is an original recording of only this work, given by the recording artist himself. This is the world premiere master provided by a recording artist who touched Olivia’s obituary. Just hearing her last visit to Japan for the first time makes her heart warm, but the sound blows away even her emotions. On and powerful, and above all, a beautiful name recording. As a matter of fact, the Orchard Hall is a venue that is whispered as a “difficult spot for audience recording”, and even if it feels wonderful on site, it is not uncommon for it to be not so good when listening back to the recording. The sound component tends to be recorded thickly, the details are clouded, and the core tends to be hollow. However, this work is an exception among exceptions. The on core is powerful, and there is no feeling of emptyness. If you listen carefully with headphones, you will notice the hall noise, but it is also drowned out by the thick core. Every single word of the Japanese MC, “Konbanwa everyone, come to Tokyo Nimata, let’s be happy” is a feeling right in front of you.
The main reason for the sound was the skill of the recording artist, but equally important is the recording position of the “front row”. Olivia is really in front of you, and you can hear the sound of the PA and the live voice with zero time difference. Of course, the “front row” is side by side with the danger of echoes, but as far as this work is concerned, that worry is zero. Whether it’s the technique of the recording artist or a miracle of chance, the contours are sharp and sharp, and even the details are vividly felt. Especially Olivia’s singing voice is an ultra-realistic superb recording at zero distance to her breathing.

以上、全６公演。オリビア最後の日本公演は東日本大震災の追悼公演「Pray For Fukushima」だったわけですが、その前に東名阪をコンパクトにサーキット。東京ではオーチャードホールで連続３公演が行われ、本作はその初日で記録されました。
そんなショウを伝える本作は、録音家本人から譲られた本作だけのオリジナル録音。オリビアの訃報に触れた録音家が蔵出しで提供してくださった世界初公開マスターです。最後の来日現場を初めて聴けるというだけで胸が熱くなりますが、その感慨さえも吹き飛ばしてしまうのがサウンド。オンで力強く、そして何より美しい名録音。実のところ、オーチャードホールは「オーディエンス録音の難所」とも囁かれる会場で、現場では素晴らしく感じられても録音で聞き返すと今いち……となる事が珍しくない。鳴り成分が厚めに録音されてディテールが曇ったり、芯がスカスカになりがちなのです。ところが、本作は例外中の例外。オンな芯が力強く、スカスカ感も皆無。ヘッドフォンで耳を澄ませればホール鳴りにも気づくものの、それも芯の極太感に掻き消される。「コンバンワ皆サン、東京ニマタ来レテ嬉シイデス」という日本語MCも、一言一言が目の前感覚なのです。
それだけのサウンドになった主因は録音家の手腕にあるわけですが、同じくらい重要なのが「最前列」という録音ポジションでしょう。本当に目の前にオリビア本人がいて、PAの出音と生声が時差ゼロで聞こえてくるド密着席。もちろん、「最前列」は反響が回り込む危険性とも隣り合わせなのですが、本作に限ってはその心配ゼロ。録音家のテクニックなのか、偶然の奇跡なのか、輪郭もくっきりと切り立ち、微細部まで鮮やかに感じられる。特にオリビアの歌声は、息づかいまでゼロ距離で超リアルな極上録音なのです。
