After the “BE HERE NOW” tour ended in March on the South American journey, Oasis’ activities went off, but from July to August Noel performed a singing stage at Paul Weller’s live undercard. It’s surprising that he, who had already acquired sufficient status, acted as the undercard of the artist during this period, but I’m convinced if it becomes Weller.
Rather, I wanted to get used to my shoulders as a musician even while I was off, so I wondered if it was true that I returned to the stage in the form of an undercard.
Noel had served as the undercard twice in the 1995 Weller show in the past, but in 1998 he served six times from July to August, which is more serious. From this, it can be said that it also served as a shoulder break-in during off.

Of those 6 stages, 2 of which had the best sound quality, “SUPPORTING BIG BROTHER” was released in the rear tie, and many people may own it. This time, the free CD-R will contain two stages that have never been released, and the sound quality of both is not good. Frankly speaking, the quality is only 1998 (bitter smile).
Above all, the stage on July 28, which was first recorded, is quite rough quality. In the first place, recording started with a cut-in from the opening “Stand By Me”, and above all, it was in a muffled state. Fortunately, the situation improved immediately and the quality improved, but it was still far from the level of “SUPPORTING BIG BROTHER”.
Therefore, although it is on the market among traders, it has not been released as an item until now, but the performance content is heated and the venue is so exciting that it can not be thought of as an undercard. Is this area like Noel? In addition, by adjusting the pitch, it is easier to hear because of the rough quality compared to the original sound.

In that respect, the stage on August 6 is much easier to hear, but although it was good that “Stand By Me” was recorded without a cut, this time there were some small breaks between the songs. Oops. It’s not straightforward.
However, this one has a different charm from “SUPPORTING BIG BROTHER” and July 28 in that it hardly picks up the excitement of the surroundings and listens carefully to Noel’s narration. Even so, when it came to “Don’t Look Back In Anger,” Noel was singing to the audience, and it was probably exciting at the actual venue. And the pitch that was also high was adjusted to greatly improve the ease of listening.
In this way, both of them were sound sources that had some problems, so it was not released until now, but it is also a valuable sound source, and above all, it is rare when the oasis was inactive. 「BE HERE NOW」ツアーが3月の南米行程にて終了後、オアシスの活動はオフに入りますが、7月から8月にかけてノエルはポール・ウェラーのライブの前座で弾き語りステージを行いました。既に十分なステイタスを獲得していた彼がこの期に及んでアーティストの前座を務めたというのは意外な感がありますが、それがウェラーとなれば納得。
むしろオフ中もミュージシャンとしての肩慣らしがしたくなり、前座という形でステージに復帰したというのが本当のところかと。
ノエルは過去にも1995年のウェラーのショーで前座を二度ほど務めたことがありましたが、98年の場合は7月から8月にかけて6回も務めたという、より本格的なもの。このことからも、オフ中の肩慣らしを兼ねていたことが伺えます。

それら6回のステージの内、もっとも音質が秀でていた2回に関してはリアタイで「SUPPORTING BIG BROTHER」がリリースされており、所有されている方も多いのではないでしょうか。今回無料CD-Rに収められるのは、今までリリースされたことのない2回のステージで、どちらも音質は…イマイチ。率直に申しまして1998年らしかぬクオリティ（苦笑）。
中でも最初に収録された7月28日のステージは相当に荒くれクオリティ。そもそもオープニングの「Stand By Me」からしてカットインで録音が始まっていますし、何よりこもりまっくった状態。幸いにもすぐに状況が改善され、尻上がりにクオリティも向上するのですが、それでも「SUPPORTING BIG BROTHER」のレベルには遠く及ばない。
それ故にトレーダー間には出回っていつつも、今までアイテムとしてリリースされた実績がなかった訳ですが、演奏内容は白熱しており会場も前座とは思えないほど盛り上がっている。この辺りは流石のノエルといったところでしょうか。おまけにピッチをアジャストしたことで原音と比べれば荒くれクオリティなりに聞きやすくなっている。

その点8月6日のステージはずっと聞きやすいレベルですが、こちらは「Stand By Me」がカットなしで収録されたはよかったものの、今度は同曲の間で細かい音切れが何度か生じてしまった。どうにも一筋縄ではいかないものです。
しかしこちらは周囲の盛り上がりをほとんど拾っておらず、ノエルの弾き語りをじっくり聞きこめるという点で「SUPPORTING BIG BROTHER」や7月28日とは違った魅力がある。それでいて「Don’t Look Back In Anger」になるとノエルがオーディエンスに合唱させており、実際の会場では盛り上がっていたのでしょう。そしてこちらも高かったピッチをアジャストして聞きやすさが格段に向上。
このように、どちらも何らかの問題を抱えている音源であったことから今までリリースされずじまいだった訳ですが、それ故に貴重な音源でもあり、何よりオアシスが活動を休止していた時期のレアな前座パフォーマンスの初登場オーディエンス録音をカップリング。是非このギフトで知られざるノエル98年の前座ショーをお試しください！
