This is the history from the completion of “DR. FEELGOOD” to the departure of Vince Neil. Over a period of two years, the number of performances exceeding 180 is the largest in his career. It is a schedule that conveys the tremendous popularity that can not keep up with demand no matter how many live performances are repeated. Under such circumstances, the Paris performance of this work is “Europe # 1” at the beginning. It was a concert corresponding to the 14th performance.

In the midst of all this, equipment trouble is a little interesting. Tommy Lee’s drum solo is a big climax of the show, but the sound suddenly breaks when the call and response hits the highlights. Even if the show is interrupted, “Tommy! Tommy!” After that, the show resumes with “Smokin’ in the Boys Room”, but you can experience the real disquieting mood with clear sound.

これが『DR. FEELGOOD』完成からヴィンス・ニール脱退までの歩み。丸２年という期間も、180公演を超える場数もキャリア最大。どれほどライヴを重ねようと需要に追いつかない凄まじい人気ぶりが伝わるスケジュールです。そんな中で本作のパリ公演は序盤の「欧州#1」。その14公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
そんな現場を真空パックした本作は、晴れ渡るクリアさと力強い芯が両立した名録音。リアルな熱狂も吸い込んだオーディエンスらしいサウンドではありますが、その空気感を貫く芯が力強く、サウンドボードのようなド密着感ではないものの、「お、近い！」と感じる距離感覚なのです。そして、マスター鮮度が絶大。何しろ、本作は録音した本人が大元マスターからデジタル化した銘品。もちろん無論ダビング劣化などあるはずもなく、１音１音が歪みも揺れもなくキレイに伸びる。空気感も透き通っているためにディテールも鮮明に伝わり、絶妙なホール鳴りが「オーディエンスだからこその美」も醸してくれるのです。
そんなフレッシュなクリア・サウンドで画かれるのは、一大全盛の風を全身で楽しみつつ、まだまだツアー疲れも起こしていないフルショウ。当店では、このツアーの定番プロショット『KANSAS CITY 1989』や日本公演の名作『OSAKA 1990』も人気ですが、実のところ本作はセットが微妙に異なる。比較しつつ、整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。前述のスケジュールをご覧の通り、本作はツアーが始まったばかりの14公演目。それだけにまだいくつかのレパートリーが試験的に演奏されており、カバーの「Helter Skelter」「Jailhouse Rock」や「Piece Of Your Action」など、その後セット落ちしていく名曲も披露されているのです。もちろん、ショウの流れ的には短い方が締まると判断されたのでしょうが、本作に限ってはダレる心配もなし。バンドも観客もツアーが始まったテンションが吹き出しており、多めの曲数も一気呵成に押しまくってしまうのです。
そんな中でちょっと面白いのが機材トラブル。トミー・リーのドラムソロはショウの大きな山場なわけですが、コール＆レスポンスからハイライトの連打に入ったところでいきなり音が途切れてしまうのです。ショウが中断しても「トミー！　トミー！」コールが起こりつつ、ヴィンスもオフなマイクで怒鳴っている。その後「Smokin’ in the Boys Room」でショウが再開するわけですが、その間の不穏なムードもクリア・サウンドでリアル体験できるのです。
まさに絶頂。骨太な演奏音に抑え込まれてはいるものの、広大に広がる大歓声は大ヒット真っ最中の熱量を発散。それを弾きだし、どんどん焚きつけていくMOTLEY CRUEの生演奏もひたすら苛烈。本作は、その機微やトラブルも絶品サウンドでフル体験できる新名盤です。MOTLEY CRUEは再び戻ってきてくれましたが、この熱気は戻るはずもない。時代が望み、祝福した絶頂の現場。どうぞ本作で存分にご体験ください。
