本作は、今週同時リリースの第一弾。「2022年６月17日デッセル（ベルギー）」で開催された有名メタルフェス“GRASPOP METAL MEETING”に出演した際のマルチカメラ・プロショットです。とうの昔に完成済みの新作『THE SICK, THE DYING… AND THE DEAD!』は７月に発売と言われていましたが、それも微妙に延期。解雇されたデヴィッド・エレフソンの新バンドの方が先に新曲を発表する事態になっています。まずは、そんな彼らの近況からおさらいしておきましょう。

これが2021年／2022年のMEGADETH。当初は夏のヨーロッパ・ツアー終了と共に新作発表→全米ツアーに突入！という段取りだったのですが、９月に延期。先に北米ツアーが始まることになりました。そんな中で本作の“GRASPOP METAL MEETING”出演は、「欧州」８公演目にあたるコンサートでした（ちなみに同じ日、車で１時間ちょっとの場所でMETALLICAがピンクポップ・フェスに出演。その模様は同時リリースの『PINKPOP 2022（Shades 1549）』でお楽しみ頂けます。近隣地とは言え、同日というのは両雄の歴史でもそうそうなく、それがプロショットで残るというのはかなりのレア・ケース。世界中のメタルバンドが集まっているパンデミック明けの欧州だからこその現象でしょう）。
“GRASPOP METAL MEETING”と言えば、“DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL”や“SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL”、“ROCK AM RING”等と並んでヨーロッパの夏を象徴する名物フェス。その配信プロショットは毎度毎回、超極上の名作を大量に生み出しています。もちろん、本作も例に漏れない。音質・画質・カメラワークのいずれも完璧でいわゆる「完全オフィシャル級」。本作は、その中でも「これがベスト」と話題のマスターからダイレクトにDVD化しているのです。
そしてひと目で印象に残るのが明るいヨーロッパの陽光。緯度の高いヨーロッパでは夏になると夜遅くまで明るく、フェスでもヘッドライナーが出てくる頃にようやく暮れる感じ。この日のデッセルの日没時間も「21時53分」で、MEGADETHの出演時間は「19時55分ー20時55分」。日本で言うところの昼下がり風の黄色い日光が降り注いでいるのです。そのため、独特のスクリーンを活用した最新ステージ演出は屋内会場に比べると見えづらくもありますが、その代わりメンバー１人ひとりも、リフに蠢く群衆も、表情までくっきり鮮やかに見えるのです。
さらに特筆モノなのが音声。当然の事ながら極上のステレオ・サウンドボードなのですが、この配信は特にミックスが素晴らしく、それこそ公式のレギュラー作品にも劣らない。実のところ、ライヴ自体は同時リリースの『HELLFEST 2022: LIVE WEBCAST（Shades 1550）』よりも短かったりするのですが、サウンドの美しさ、クリアさは本作に軍配が上がるのです。では、そのショートセットでは、どんな曲が楽しめるのか。ここでセット内容も整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。相変わらず『THE SICK, THE DYING… AND THE DEAD!』の新曲が明かされていないところにヤキモキする。フェス用という事もあって約64分とやや短めですが、その中に歴代の大代表曲群を濃縮。その中で異彩を放っているのは、「Dread And The Fugitive Mind」でしょう。コロナ禍直前に復活したのですが、その時が『THE WORLD NEEDS A HERO』当時から19年ぶり。今となっては半黒歴史的な時代のレパートリーだっただけに話題を呼んでいる１曲です。
盟友だったエレフソンが去ってから初めてのプロショット。それが２作も同時リリースになろうとは。そうなってくると本作はフェス用セットでも短めなために注目を浴びづらいかもしれませんが、群を抜くサウンドの素晴らしさは聴いて一発。曲数の『HELLFEST 2022』か、サウンドの本作か……やはち、両方とも味わっていただきたい超極上のプロショット姉妹作。ここに爆誕です！

★「2022年６月17日デッセル公演」のマルチカメラ・プロショット。生配信のベスト・マスターからDVD化したクオリティは完全オフィシャル級で、クリアなサウンドは公式スタジオ作品にも負けない素晴らしさ。フェス用のショート・セットではありますが、約１時間の持ち時間に歴代の代表曲を濃縮。久々の復活曲「Dread And The Fugitive Mind」も極上クオリティで楽しめます。
