The concept album “MUSIC FROM “THE ELDER”” is known as KISS’s biggest controversial work. A demo album that reveals the behind-the-scenes production is now available with the highest quality update.
Recently, at our store, the KISS official outflow master collection is very popular. Not only the first appearance sound source, but also the longest and highest peak quality has been significantly updated even for the large standard that has been known so far. Ultimate upgrade. This work is also a master outflow of such a person. It is a 2-disc set that is a complete compilation of the well-known “MUSIC FROM “THE ELDER”” demo with upgraded sound and further increased.
“MUSIC FROM “THE ELDER”” was produced from March to September 1981, but three demos recorded in “May 1981” are included in this work. Let’s introduce each one individually.
● DISC 1: ACE IN THE HOLE Studio (2 takes, about 9 minutes)
Five studios were used to produce “MUSIC FROM “THE ELDER””, but the opening of this work DISC 1 is a demo at “ACE IN THE HOLE Studio” in Wilton. 2 takes (about 9 minutes) of “Don’t Run”, the original song of “Dark Light”, are included. This song was co-written by Ace, Gene, Anton Figg and Lou Reed, and is also the only song sung by Ace.
The surprise here is the sound. Although it does not go as “Official grade!” Only for the demo, it is completely different from the sound that has been eaten by Shuwashwa and Gene so far. You can thoroughly enjoy the precious original song with a glossy and beautiful sound.
● DISC 1: SIR Studio (9 takes, about 36 minutes)
What follows is a demo () recorded at New York’s “SIR Studio”, which occupies most of DISC 1. Includes “Heaven” and “Kix R 4 Kids”, which were not included in the album, as well as instrumental demos of unreleased songs without titles.
First, there are two demos of “Heaven”. This song was not included in “MUSIC FROM “THE ELDER”” after all, but it is not a completely rejected song. In addition to being played as “Breakout” of “FREHLEY’S COMET” by Ace, the KISS side also completed “Carr Jam 1981” of “REVENGE”.
On the other hand, “Kix R 4 Kids” is an unreleased song that has not yet been completed, and there are 4 types of instrumental demos left. The untitled song “Untitled # 1” is the same, and 3 takes are recorded in the riff idea state.
● DISC 2: PHASE 1 studio (27 takes, about 61 minutes) + α
On behalf of DISC 2, demos leaked from Toronto’s “PHASE 1 studio”. A total of 27 takes of the demos of 3 songs “Every Little Bit Of My Heart”, “Its My Life” and “Just A Boy” are also included.
First of all, the demo of “Every Little Bit Of My Heart” appears. This is the original song of “A World Without Heroes”, and two types of vocals and instrumental are recorded. The following “It’s My Life” is a song recorded in Wendy O. William’s solo debut work “WOW” before KISS. The KISS version first saw the light of day with “THE BOX SET” in 2001. In this work, you can listen to two instrumental demos.
And “Just A Boy” is the main part of the “PHASE 1 Studio” demo. There are 23 different versions recorded, from practice-style takes with vivid counts to another arranged version with a high degree of perfection. In particular, the three types of “Complete Demo”, “Keyboard Version” and “Monk Chant” are as complete as the final version of the album recording. In this work, which has a lot of material takes, it is a treasured take that shines musically.
Recorded at the end of such demo group is the radio commercial of “MUSIC FROM “THE ELDER””. Although it is less than 1 minute, it is a super rare sound source that overflows with a different atmosphere than any other era.

最近の当店では、KISSの関係者流出マスター・コレクションが大人気。初登場音源はもちろんのこと、これまで知られてきた大定番であっても最長・最高峰クオリティを大幅に更新。究極アップグレードしてきました。本作もまた、そんな関係者流出マスター。これまで知られてきた『MUSIC FROM “THE ELDER”』デモをアップグレード・サウンドで完全集成しつつ、さらに増量した２枚組なのです。
『MUSIC FROM “THE ELDER”』が製作されたのは1981年３月ー９月ですが、そのうち本作に収録されているのは「19881年５月」に録音された３つのデモ。それぞれ個別にご紹介していきましょう。
●DISC 1：ACE IN THE HOLEスタジオ（２テイク・約９分）
『MUSIC FROM “THE ELDER”』の製作には５ヶ所のスタジオが使用されましたが、本作DISC 1の冒頭を飾るのは、そのうちウィルトンにある”ACE IN THE HOLEスタジオ”におけるデモ。「Dark Light」の原曲である「Don’t Run」が２テイク（約９分）収録されています。この曲はエースやジーン、それにアントン・フィグ、ルー・リードの共作で、エースが歌う唯一の曲でもあります。
ここで驚きなのは、そのサウンド。デモだけに「オフィシャル級！」とはいきませんが、これまでのシュワシュワとジェネを食らったサウンドとは完全に別次元。艶やかな美しいサウンドで貴重な原曲をじっくりと味わえるのです。
●DISC 1：SIRスタジオ（９テイク・約36分）
その後に続くのは、DISC 1の大部分を占めるニューヨークの「SIRスタジオ」で記録されたデモ（）。アルバム未収録に終わった「Heaven」「Kix R 4 Kids」、それにタイトルもない未発表曲のインスト・デモが収録されています。
まず「Heaven」のデモが２種。この曲は結局『MUSIC FROM “THE ELDER”』に収録される事はありませんでしたが、完全なボツ曲でもない。エースの手によって『FREHLEY’S COMET』の「Breakout」として再生されたほか、KISS側も『REVENGE』の「Carr Jam 1981」として完成させました。
一方「Kix R 4 Kids」は未だ完成形を見ない未発表曲で４種のインスト・デモが残されています。無題の曲「Untitled #1」も同様で、リフのアイディア状態で３テイクが収録されています。
●DISC 2：PHASE 1スタジオ（27テイク・約61分）＋α
代わってのDISC 2は、トロントの「PHASE 1スタジオ」から流出したデモ。３曲「Every Little Bit Of My Heart」「Its My Life」「Just A Boy」のデモが合計27テイクも収録されています。
まず登場するのは「Every Little Bit Of My Heart」のデモ。これは「A World Without Heroes」の原曲で、ヴォーカル入りとインストの２種が収録されています。続く「It’s My Life」はKISSよりも先にウェンディ・Ｏ・ウイリアムのソロ・デビュー作『WOW』に収録された曲。KISS版は2001年の『THE BOX SET』で初めて日の目を見ました。本作ではインスト・デモが２種聴けます。
そして、「PHASE 1スタジオ」デモのメインとなるのが「Just A Boy」。カウントも生々しい練習風テイクから、完成度の高い別アレンジ版まで、様々なバージョンが23種も記録されています。特に「Complete Demo」「Keyboard Version」「Monk Chant」の３種はアルバム収録の最終版にも負けない完成度。やや資料的なテイクが多い本作において、音楽的にも光り輝く秘宝テイクです。
そんなデモ群の最後に収録されているのは、『MUSIC FROM “THE ELDER”』のラジオCM。１分弱ではありますが、他のいかなる時代とも異なる雰囲気が溢れ出る激レア音源です。
