Kiss / Calgary 1985 Soundboard / 2CD / Zodiac
Stampede Corral Arena, Calgary, AB, Canada 3rd March 1985
KISS’s super-superb soundboard series, where new excavations of earth-shattering earth are constantly being discovered. This time, the three consecutive no-makeup works from the mid-80s will be released at the same time as a permanent press CD!
An abnormal situation is occurring in the recent KISS soundboard situation. A few months ago, five soundboards that appeared for the first time in the Vinnie Vincent era appeared, and I was surprised, but just the other day, two works were discovered at the same time from the “DYNASTY Tour”. It’s a fierce rush that doesn’t know where to stop the shocking work that makes you dizzy just by coming out. This week, three world-first public soundboards have arrived that will sting even more. This work is the first of such three series. It is a stereo sound board recording recorded at the “ANIMALIZE Tour” act “March 3, 1985 Calgary performance”.
Speaking of the “ANIMALIZE Tour”, it was also left in the official video “ANIMALIZE LIVE UNCENSORED”, and a changeover drama from Mark St. John to Bruce Kulick also occurred. It’s a good opportunity, so let’s check the schedule together with the situation around here.
● 1984
・ January 1-March 17: North America # 1 (53 performances)
《Vinnie Vincent left in March → Joined Mark St. John in April》
《“ANIMALIZE” released on September 13th》
《Mark Poor Health → Bruce Kulick Participates》
・ September 30-November 5: Europe (29 performances)
・ November 5-December 18: North America #2a (7 performances)
*November 27-29: North America #2b (3 performances of Mark’s return)
・December 2-7: North America #2c (5 performances)
《December 8, Bruce Kulick officially joins》
・ December 8-30: North America #2d (12 performances) ← * Official video
● 1985
・January 3-March 29: North America #2e (63 performances) ← Coco
《“ASYLUM” released on September 16th》
・November 29-December 31: North America #3 (23 performances)
This is the 1984/1985 KISS. Mark developed arthritis when the tour and rehearsals started for the release of “ANIMALIZE”. The tour was started in the form of Bruce acting as a substitute. Although Mark will join the tour at the end of November about two months later, he will drop only three performances “North America #2b”. After all, Bruce will be appointed as the official fourth generation guitarist. The official video was shot on the day of Bruce’s official joining, but the Calgary performance of this work was the 43rd performance of “North America # 2e”, which was a three-month tour.
This show has been known for its audience recordings, but this work is a completely different shocking superb soundboard. As usual, the loud cheers are directly connected to the mix table, but it is so beautiful that it is not enough. I think it’s probably a coincidence, but the balance of each instrument is better than other works, and each sound is clear and vivid. While boasting the vividness of the outflow sound board, it is a genuine superb sound board that has the ease of listening like an FM broadcast.
The transcendent quality is drawn in a delicious full show, including the precious cover medley that is unique to the “ANIMALIZE Tour”. As mentioned above, the symbol of this tour is “ANIMALIZE LIVE UNCENSORED”, but this work is a similar but different set. Let’s organize them by comparing them here.
70’s Classics (5 songs)
・Emissary from Hell: Cold Gin / Black Diamond
・Other: Rock And Roll All Nite / Detroit Rock City / Love Gun
● 80’s (9 songs + α)
・Dark Myth: Creatures of the Night / War Machine / I Love It Loud / I Still Love You
・Reminiscences of Hell: Fits Like A Glove/Young and Wasted/Lick It Up
・Animalize: Heaven’s On Fire / Under the Gun
・Cover jams: Oh! Susannah (★) / La Bamba (★) / Sunshine of Your Love (★) / Dazed and Confused (★)
* Note: “★” marks are songs that could not be heard in the official video “ANIMALIZE LIVE UNCENSORED”.
… and it looks like this. There are momentary cuts between songs and some songs, so it is not a strict perfect form, but you can enjoy an almost complete full show. Basically, it feels like “Thrills in the Night” has been removed from the official video, but instead it is the cover songs in the second half of the show that are tired. Although it is about 1-2 minutes each, the standard “Oh! This is also a taste that could not be heard even in the soundboard group such as “NEW JERSEY 1985 SOUNDBOARD” and “SAN BERNARDINO 1985” released at the same time.
A fierce rush of world premiere soundboard albums, each one of which is unbelievably incidental. Among them, it is a delicious “one recommended work” that is outstanding in terms of both sound quality and valuable set. Although the collection of all works is the basis, this work is an absolute board suitable for one of “first”. Please enjoy yourself with the permanent preservation press 2CD!
* Stereo sound board recording of “March 3, 1985 Calgary Performance”. It is the first appearance sound source of the whole world shock excavated by its own route, boasting the freshness of the outflow sound board, and a genuine superb product that has the ease of listening like an FM broadcast. Cover jams that could not be heard in the official video “ANIMALIZE LIVE UNCENSORED” such as “Oh! Susannah”, “La Bamba”, “Sunshine of Your Love”, “Dazed and Confused” are also delicious absolute boards.
