With the release of his new work “SWEETZERLAND MANIFESTO MKII” approaching, AEROSMITH’s farewell tour “PEACE OUT” was also announced, and Joe Perry’s trend is attracting attention. He has a superb set where you can experience the latest solo stage that has been talked about in partnership with EXTREME’s Gary Sherone.
This work contains two superb records of one show. This is a 3-disc audience set with the full recording of “Boston Performance on April 16, 2023” on DISC 1-2 and the front row shot on DISC 3. In addition to AEROSMITH and solo, Joe currently has HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES with Alice Cooper in parallel, and the schedule is quite complicated. In order to know his recent situation, let’s first check the position of the show by overlooking the whole activity.

This is the schedule for 2022-2024 that has been announced so far. The “*” marks are solo performances, and the “・” are other live performances. Last year, JOE PERRY PROJECT was also revived, and this year, together with AEROSMITH/HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES, they are in a three-legged pair of straw sandals. However, there is a considerable difference in the number of performances, and the solo is only the mini tour “North America # 3” in early spring. The Boston performance of this work was the second concert of such “North America # 3”. Let’s take a look at each of the two records.
[DISC 1-2: IEMs class super direct sound full recording] The first thing to appear is a full recording of the highest grade. It is an audience recording that appeared on the net, but this is clear and direct. I honestly do not mistake it for a sound board because I honestly suck in fresh enthusiasm, but the essential performance sound and vocals are likely to be mistaken. The thick core is approaching without a sense of distance, the details are clear and vivid to the outline, and the separate feeling that each sound stands out beautifully … Speaking of audience-likeness, it is about the tone color.“You can really feel the detail in the vocals.” Not only Gary Scherone of the main, but also Joe and Buck Johnson of the keyboard take a chorus, but even if one voice overlaps, it does not mix. You can clearly feel the voice quality of each person, even the breathing, and the vividness makes you think that it is IEMs interception. You can understand if the timbre and range are completely different, but it is extremely rare to have a customer record that separates so clearly even with an all-male chorus work. [DISC 3: Front row shot of super superb view] Following such a full recording is an audience shot where you can enjoy the full show from the special seats marked “super”. After all, the shooting position is the front row! Only the band and the pit camera crew were in front of me. You can hear the cheers, so you can tell it’s a live performance, but the scene itself is amazing, as if you were attending the rehearsal. Moreover, it is best to be a little right from the center of the stage. Yes, the position itself of the leading role Joe Perry. It’s right in front and close to where you can grab his mic stand if you stick your hand into the monitor. Moreover, the same recording as DISC 1-2 is used for the sound, and it is as close as possible to the sight.
Nowadays, editing work is easier and audience shots are more multi-camera, but the value of one-shot footage increases. In particular, the front row shot is not something that anyone can shoot, and you can experience the super special seat that everyone wants. This video is also the highest quality version of the most popular type now.

… and it looks like this. Along with the leading role Joe, Gary Cherone is a big success. VAN HALEN once showed a flexible response, but he may be a better match for AEROSMITH as his own characteristics. He shows us a familiar performance that seems to be a short-term activity.
A superb 3-disc set that allows you to fully enjoy the precious and precious JOE PERRY PROJECT with transcendental quality. I don’t know how long AEROSMITH’s “PEACE OUT” will last, but when the big project is over, I want them to team up again. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.

そんな本作に収められているのは、１つのショウの２つの極上記録。「2023年４月16日ボストン公演」のフル録音をDISC 1-2に、最前列ショットをDISC 3に配したオーディエンス３枚組です。現在のジョーはAEROSMITHとソロに加え、アリス・クーパーとのHOLLYWOOD VAMPIRESも同時並行させており、そのスケジュールはかなり複雑。彼の近況を知る意味でも、まずは活動全景を俯瞰してショウのポジションを確かめてみましょう。

これが現在までに公表されている2022年ー2024年のスケジュール。「＊」印がソロ公演で、「・」がそれ以外のライヴです。昨年JOE PERRY PROJECTとしてのライヴも復活させており、今年はAEROSMITH／HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRESと併せて三足の草鞋状態。ただし、公演数にはかなり差があり、ソロは春先のミニツアー「北米#3」のみです。本作のボストン公演は、そんな「北米#3」の２公演目にあたるコンサートでした。それでは、２つの記録をそれぞれご紹介していきましょう。
【DISC 1-2：IEMs級の超ダイレクト・サウンドなフル録音】
まず登場するのは、極上級のフル録音。ネットに登場したオーディエンス録音なのですが、これがクリアでダイレクト感たっぷり。生々しい熱狂を正直に吸い込んでいるのでサウンドボードと間違えたりはしませんが、肝心要の演奏音やヴォーカルは間違えそうになる。骨太な芯は距離感もなくグイグイと迫り、輪郭までくっきりと鮮やかなディテール、１音１音も綺麗に浮き立つセパレート感……オーディエンスらしさと言えば、音色程度です。
その細やかさをことさら実感できるのは、ヴォーカル。メインのゲイリー・シェローンだけでなく、ジョーやキーボードのバック・ジョンソンもコーラスを執るわけですが、その一声一声が重なり合っても混じり合わない。１人ひとりの声質はおろか息づかいまでハッキリと感じ取れ、その鮮やかさはIEMs傍受かと思うほど。音色も音域もまるで違う楽器隊ならわかりますが、全員男声のコーラスワークでもここまでクッキリとセパレートする客録は極めて珍しいです。
【DISC 3：超絶景の最前列ショット】
そんなフル録音に続くのは「超」の付く特等席からフルショウを楽しめるオーディエンス・ショット。何しろ、撮影ポジションが最前列！ 目の前にいるのはバンドとピットのカメラクルーのみ。歓声が聞こえるのでライヴ本番と分かりますが、光景自体は通しリハに同席しているかのような「独り占め感」がスゴいのです。しかも、ステージ中央よりちょっぴり右寄りなのが最高。そう、主役ジョー・ペリーの立ち位置そのもの。モニターに手を突っ込んだら彼のマイクスタンドを掴めそうな真っ正面＆ド直近です。しかも、音声もDISC 1-2と同じ録音が使用されており、光景に負けず劣らずド密着なのです。
現在では編集作業も簡単になってオーディエンス・ショットもマルチカメラ物が増えましたが、そうなると逆に一発録り映像の価値が上昇。特に最前列ショットは誰でも撮影できるものではなく、誰もが望む超特等席体験ができる。この映像は、今一番人気のあるタイプの最高峰クオリティ版でもあるのです。
そんな超極上ライヴアルバム＆最前列ショットで画かれるのは、AEROSMITHナンバーも盛りだくさんのフルショウ。最後に、その内容も整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。主役ジョーと並んで大活躍なのは、ゲイリー・シェローン。かつてVAN HALENでも柔軟に対応して見せましたが、彼自身の特性としてはAEROSMITHの方にマッチしているのかもしれません。短期間の活動とは思えないほど馴染んだパフォーマンスを見せつけてくれます。
ただでさえ貴重な貴重なJOE PERRY PROJECTを超絶クオリティで味わい尽くせる超極上の３枚組です。AEROSMITHの”PEACE OUT”がいつまで続くのかは分かりませんが、一大事業が終わった暁には、再びタッグを組んで欲しい……そんな思いまで頭をよぎる見事なライヴ・セット。どうぞ、心ゆくまで存分にご堪能ください。
