Last year, the first ever Diano era full soundboard album “DEFINITIVE NIJMEGEN 1981” shocked collectors around the world. That super-famous board that was killed in an instant will be restocked on the 2nd press CD of the renewal artwork!
“Full sound board of the Diano era” …… This fascinating sound. This work is exactly the crystal of a long-standing dream. Its true identity is a stereo soundboard recording of “April 28, 1981 Nijmegen Performance”. FM broadcasting has been known for this show for a long time, and its air check has become one of the staples. However, although this FM broadcast sounds good, it has only 10 songs and less than 45 minutes, and the first FM broadcast “DEFINITIVE LIVE KILLERS (Zodiac 163)” and the long pro shot “COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981 (Zodiac 326)” ) ”I have been worshiping the dust of masterpieces. However, it was in 2020 that the history changed completely. How, the complete master of the big classic Nijmegen performance sound board was unearthed. Finally, it was the birth of the first full-show soundboard board in history.
You might think, “Ah? Isn’t the beat club and FM broadcasts in Japan perfect?”, But in reality, they were slightly different. To explain the situation around that, let’s first organize the soundboards / pro shots of the Diano & Adrian era.

Only after joining Adrian, there are the above 7 types. Among them, the official “LIVE AT THE RAINBOW” and “MAIDEN JAPAN” and the professional shots of the Milan performance are as short as 20-30 minutes. The remaining 4 types are long, but “COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981” is a performance for TV programs, not a so-called concert, and the same song is redone. The FM soundboards for the remaining Japanese and Milwaukee performances are almost full, but the encore “Prowler” is not included. Even in “DEFINITIVE LIVE KILLERS”, “Prowler” was not a “complete sound board” because it was complemented by audience recording.
By the way, this work was the first “complete sound board” in such a situation. Let’s take a look while comparing it with the masterpiece full set, “DEFINITIVE LIVE KILLERS”.

… And it looks like this. You can also enjoy “Prowler”, which was cut in the FM broadcast of the performance in Japan, which was the highest peak so far, firmly on the stereo sound board. With such a volume, the full show will be the total settlement of the Diano era. Only three songs from the album, “Strange World,” “Charlotte the Harlot,” and “Prodigal Son,” were not performed. Actually, “Strange World” can be heard on “DEFINITIVE LIVE KILLERS”, but after all “Prowler” is an essential super-heavy song, and the opening scene of “The Ides Of March” is also uncut. I’m too happy (By the way, “Charlotte the Harlot” can be enjoyed in “COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981”, but “Prodigal Son” has never been played live in the first place).
I forgot to write it because of the shock of the epoch-making full sound board, but the quality of this work is also the best! Although the vocal “Sashisuseso” may become a little dusty due to the rough mix of the direct wind, the total sound quality itself can be said to be “official grade”. Of course, its freshness is also a beauty of the explosive Maiden of the Diano era. It is a complete master of FM sound board excavated last year, and it has a total of 19 songs, about 80 minutes, which is different from the conventional version. 昨年、世界中のコレクターに衝撃を振りまいた、史上初のディアノ時代フル・サウンドボード・アルバム『DEFINITIVE NIJMEGEN 1981』。瞬殺となったあの超名盤がリニューアル・アートワークの2ndプレスCDで再入荷決定です！
「ディアノ時代のフル・サウンドボード」……この魅惑の響き。本作は、まさに長年の夢の結晶。その正体は「1981年４月28日ネイメーヘン公演」のステレオ・サウンドボード録音です。このショウは古くからFM放送が知られ、そのエアチェックが定番の１つとなってきました。しかし、このFM放送はサウンドこそ良いものの、わずか10曲・45分弱しかなく、初来日のFM放送『DEFINITIVE LIVE KILLERS（Zodiac 163）』や長尺プロショット『COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981（Zodiac 326）』といった名作たちの後塵を拝してきました。しかし、その歴史がコロッと一変したのが2020年のこと。なんと、大定番ネイメーヘン公演サウンドボードの完全版マスターが発掘された。遂に、遂に史上初のフルショウ・サウンドボード盤の誕生となったのです。
「あれ？　ビートクラブや日本公演FM放送は完全じゃないの？」と思われるかも知れませんが、実はそれぞれ微妙に違っていました。その辺の事情を説明するためにも、まずはディアノ＆エイドリアン時代のサウンドボード／プロショットを整理してみましょう。

あくまでもエイドリアン加入後だけですが、以上の７種類があります。この中で公式の『LIVE AT THE RAINBOW』『MAIDEN JAPAN』やミラノ公演プロショットは20-30分程度の短いもの。残り４種は長尺なのですが、『COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981』はTV番組用パフォーマンスでいわゆるコンサートではなく、同じ曲のやり直しなどもある。残る日本公演やミルウォーキー公演のFMサウンドボードは限りなくフルに近いものの、アンコールの「Prowler」は未収録。『DEFINITIVE LIVE KILLERS』にしても「Prowler」はオーディエンス録音で補完しているために「完全サウンドボード」ではありませんでした。
さて、そんな中で初の「完全版サウンドボード」となったのが本作なわけです。その圧巻のフルセット、『DEFINITIVE LIVE KILLERS』と比較しながら一望してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。これまで最高峰だった来日公演のFM放送でもカットされていた「Prowler」もしっかりとステレオ・サウンドボードで楽しめる。これだけのボリュームになると、そのフルショウはディアノ時代の総決算ともなる。アルバム収録曲で演奏されなかったのはわずか３曲「Strange World」「Charlotte the Harlot」「Prodigal Son」だけ。実のところ、「Strange World」は『DEFINITIVE LIVE KILLERS』で聴けたりするのですが、やはり「Prowler」は肝心要の超・重謡曲ですし、「The Ides Of March」の開演シーンもノーカットなのが嬉しすぎます（ちなみに残る「Charlotte the Harlot」は『COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981』で楽しめますが、「Prodigal Son」はそもそもライヴ演奏したことがありません）。
あまりにも画期的なフル・サウンドボードの衝撃のせいですっかり書き忘れてしまいましたが、本作はクオリティも極上！　卓直結風の荒っぽいミックスでヴォーカルの「サシスセソ」が少々埃っぽくなる事もあるものの、トータルの音質自体は堂々と「オフィシャル級」と言える。もちろん、その生々しさもディアノ時代の爆走メイデンには美点。綺麗にセパレートしたツインの分離感も、ゴリッゴリ・バッキバキなベースも、ワイルドに暴れるドラムや野獣の咆哮も、あの『DEFINITIVE LIVE KILLERS』と五分以上。まさに「ディアノ時代の最高峰」に君臨する超名盤なのです。

The main press CD is exactly the masterpiece of IRON MAIDEN in the Diano era. It is a masterpiece among masterpieces that should be permanently preserved by the official side. As mentioned in the commentary, there were “three major live works” in the Diano era, and especially the main press CD and “COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981” are brothers of the same European Tour. Therefore, a special bonus will be included so that you can enjoy the ultimate tag of “the best masterpiece of the live album & the best masterpiece of the professional shot” at once!
That’s why this work was shot on “January 22, 1981 Bremen”. This is a multi-camera pro shot taken for the famous program “BEAT-CLUB”. For many years, the broadcast air check of about 30 minutes has become a big standard (until now it was said to be “April 29”, but it seems that it was actually more than 3 months ago), but this work is A completely different unedited version before the broadcast. In the broadcast, it is a complete version with a heap of famous songs and scenes cut, and the quality is also the ultimate professional shot of complete official grade. … And it looks like this. Plenty of unbroadcast “Charlotte The Harlot,” “Transylvania,” “Running Free,” and “Killers.” Especially delicious is “Charlotte The Harlot”. Not only was it not on the main press CD, but there was no professional shot / sound board so far (also AUD shot in “THE EARLY DAYS”). Even if it is only this one song, it is a big excavation that is historical.
Two more songs that you can’t miss are “Remember Tomorrow” and “Sanctuary”. In addition to the OK take that was also used for broadcasting, another take that has been redone is also recorded. Moreover, this is not just another take. Especially interesting is “Remember Tomorrow”. At first, it was playing well, but after about 2 minutes, an abnormal noise was generated. The performance will be canceled due to equipment trouble. This scene is amazing. Although it was a studio live in the station, Bruce Dickinson would have softened it with the oral performance of “William Tell Overture”, but Diano said to Sakura’s audience that “the equipment was ruined”. I will explain one word, but leave everything else completely. Talking with the staff on the stage sleeves with a bitter smile, the members start drinking beer in an atmosphere like a mess. Even though he had been performing a big performance just like the actual performance, the difference is tremendous, and the mood of an up-and-coming band who is not accustomed to recording is super real. Not only these scenes, but also the intervals between each song are shot. It is a completely different video work from the edited TV broadcast version.
I have derailed a little because it was so interesting. Of course, the true value of this work is a fierce performance, and the super quality that carved it. It was the “BEAT-CLUB” itself who made this new excavation, and its quality is completely Omoto Master. Super vivid with completely zero dubbing marks. Not only does it go beyond the traditional air checks, but the master who has been sleeping in the warehouse for many years has no reproduction deterioration, and it is completely official-grade super quality even by modern digital standards.

……と、このようになっています。未放送だった「Charlotte The Harlot」「Transylvania」「Running Free」「Killers」もたっぷり。特に美味しいのが「Charlotte The Harlot」。単に本編プレスCDにないだけでなく、これまで一切のプロショット／サウンドボードが存在しなかった（『THE EARLY DAYS』でもAUDショットでした）。仮にこの１曲だけだったとしても歴史的という大発掘なのです。
さらに見逃せないのが「Remember Tomorrow」「Sanctuary」の２曲。放送にも使われたOKテイクに加え、やり直しの別テイクも収録されているのです。しかも、これがただの別テイクじゃない。特に面白いのは「Remember Tomorrow」。最初は快調に演奏しているものの、２分ほどしたところで異音が発生。そのまま機材トラブルで演奏が中止になってしまうのです。このシーンが凄い。局内スタジオ・ライヴとは言え、ブルース・ディッキンソンであれば「ウィリアム・テル序曲」の口芸でもやって和ませたでしょうが、ディアノはサクラの客席に向かって「機材がダメになっちまった」と一言説明はするものの、それ以外は完全放置。ステージ袖のスタッフと苦笑いで話し込み、メンバーはヤレヤレといった雰囲気でビールを飲み始めてしまう。つい今し方まで本番さながらの大熱演を繰り広げていたのに、その落差が凄まじく、収録慣れしていない新進気鋭バンドのムードが超リアル。こうしたシーンだけでなく、各曲の曲間も通し撮影されている。編集されたテレビ放送版とはまったく違う映像作品になっているのです。
あまりの面白さにやや脱線してしまいました。もちろん、本作の真価は苛烈なパフォーマンスであり、それを刻みつけた超クオリティ。今回の新発掘を行ったのは当の“BEAT-CLUB”自身でして、そのクオリティは完全に大元マスター。ダビング痕も完全ゼロで超ビビッド。単にこれまでのエアチェックを超えているだけでなく、長年倉庫で眠っていたマスターには再生劣化もなく、現代のデジタル基準でも完全にオフィシャル級の超クオリティなのです。

伝統の公式映像『LIVE AT THE RAINBOW』さえも軽々と超越する「映像の最高傑作」……いや、それ以上。もはや１バンドの次元を超え、NWOBHMの文化遺産であり、音楽ジャンル“ヘヴィメタル”の金字塔となる超極上プロショットです。オフィシャル超えしたサウンドボード・アルバムとプロショット映像編の頂点記録セット。どうぞ、この機会に思う存分お楽しみください！

The main press CD is the only full-soundboard album of the Paul Di’Anno era. Along with the bonus DVDR “COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981”, this is a masterpiece that reigns at the pinnacle of the Diano era. As mentioned in the commentary, there are other soundboards / pro shots in the Diano era. If you hold the top, you will want to aim for the next complete, so this time, we will also reorganize the sound board / pro shot collection that can not be collected only by official works and famous press titles with the highest peak master. I prepared it.
This work contains 1 type of sound board + 5 types of pro shots. This is a 2-disc set with a long sound board recording of “June 26, 1981 Milwaukee performance” on DISC 1 and a collection of professional shots mainly on “April 4, 1981 Milan performance” on DISC 2. I posted a list of sound boards / pro shots from the Diano era in the main story, but as you can see, it is a compilation that allows you to collect all but the official works / press boards at once. Let’s introduce each one individually.

● DISC 1: Milwaukee performance sound board
The first thing to appear is the stereo sound board recording of “June 26, 1981 Milwaukee Performance”. It is an FM broadcast sound board when I appeared in the American festival “SUMMERFEST 1981”. The sound is a lot lower than the main press CD and “DEFINITIVE LIVE KILLERS (Zodiac 163)”, but it is still a high quality sound board. Also, this live is valuable in another sense. Actually, most of the American performances of “KILLER WORLD TOUR” were the undercards of JUDAS PRIEST and UFO, and they were only short shows of about 40 minutes. Under such circumstances, their own full show was only possible 5 times out of 42 performances. The live of this work is one of them. Moreover, this “KILLER WORLD TOUR” is IRON MAIDEN’s first world tour, and this is the first time they have experienced America. Therefore, in this work, it is a valuable sound board that you can hear the momentum of the first invasion in full size.

● DISC 2: Pro shot of Milan performance
DISC 2 instead is a professional shot video edition. The main one is the Italian TV broadcast professional shot. Previously it was “March 30th”, but according to current research, the Milan performance is known to be “April 4th”. It used to symbolize the Diano era alongside West Germany’s “Beat Club”, but the “Beat Club” has been upgraded as “COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981”. This will stay in the runner-up.
Although various genres are on the market only for the big classics, this work is the same master as “EUROPEAN KILLERS 1981” and “MILAN 1981 AND MORE !!” which were acclaimed as the best among them. As expected, it is not far from the transcendence of “COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981”, but it is much clearer and more vivid than the ones posted on video sites. It is an exquisite visual beauty that does not give up the highest peak even now.
Unlike “Beat Club”, you can watch a real concert with a multi-camera, but even more delicious is Dave Murray’s guitar solo and “Drifter”. Both are valuable scenes that cannot be seen not only in “BEAT-CLUB” but also in “LIVE AT THE RAINBOW”. No matter how much the “Beat Club” is upgraded, it is a must-have professional shot that “after all Milan is necessary”.

● DISC 2: Extra video that collects various valuable videos
After such a Milan Pro shot, we summarized 6 detailed video takes. The songs are arranged in chronological order one by one, but they are roughly divided into the following four types.

・ TV program “ROCKPOP” (2 songs)
・ 8mm film (1 song)
・ Store events during the US tour
“TOP OF THE POPS” and “ROCKPOP” are familiar on the official DVD “THE EARLY DAYS”, but “ROCKPOP” is a complete version that also includes “Remember Tomorrow” which is not included in “THE EARLY DAYS”. Although some dubbing deterioration can be seen only between songs, this is also a valuable scene where Eddie kills the program host.
Furthermore, the precious 8mm film is great for enthusiasts. Taken at the “October 11, 1980 Copenhagen Performance”, just before Dennis Stratton’s final show. Known as MAIDEN’s oldest audience shoot (the Ruskin Arms footage recorded in the official “THE EARLY DAYS” is a shot of the people involved), overseas core enthusiasts are connecting a few seconds of shredded silent films. Therefore, strictly speaking, the image and sound are not synchronized, but this sound is also recorded in Odin on the same day. 本編プレスCDは、ポール・ディアノ時代唯一となるフルサウンドボード・アルバム。ボーナスDVDRである『COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981』と並んでディアノ時代の頂点に君臨する最高傑作です。その解説でも触れましたが、ディアノ時代には他にもサウンドボード／プロショットは存在する。頂点を押さえたら次に目指したくなるのがコンプリートですので、今回は特別に、公式作や有名プレス・タイトルだけでは集めきれないサウンドボード／プロショット・コレクションを最高峰マスターで再整理する１枚もご用意しました。
そんな本作に収められているのは、サウンドボード１種＋プロショット５種。「1981年６月26日ミルウォーキー公演」の長尺サウンドボード録音をDISC 1に、「1981年４月４日ミラノ公演」をメインにしたプロショット集をDISC 2に配した２枚組です。本編解説にディアノ時代のサウンドボード／プロショット一覧を掲載しましたが、それをご覧のように公式作／プレス盤以外を一気にコレクションできるコンピレーションなのです。それでは、それぞれ個別にご紹介していきましょう。

●DISC 1：ミルウォーキー公演サウンドボード
まず登場するのは「1981年６月26日ミルウォーキー公演」のステレオ・サウンドボード録音。アメリカのフェスティバル“SUMMERFEST 1981”に出演した際のFM放送サウンドボードです。本編プレスCDや『DEFINITIVE LIVE KILLERS（Zodiac 163）』に比べると一格落ちるサウンドなのですが、それでも十分にハイクオリティなサウンドボードです。また、このライヴは別の意味でも貴重。実は“KILLER WORLD TOUR”のアメリカ公演は、ほとんどがJUDAS PRIESTやUFOの前座で、40分そこそこの短いショウばかりでした。そんな中で彼ら自身のフルショウができたのは、全42公演中５回だけ。本作のライヴは、そのうちのひとつ。しかも、この“KILLER WORLD TOUR”はIRON MAIDEN初の世界ツアーで、彼らがアメリカを体験したのもこの年が初めて。そのため、本作では初侵攻の勢いがフルサイズで聴ける貴重なサウンドボードなのです。

●DISC 2：ミラノ公演のプロショット
代わってのDISC 2はプロショット映像編。そのメインとなるのはイタリアのTV放送プロショットです。従来は“３月30日”とされてきましたが、現在のリサーチによるとミラノ公演は“４月４日”と分かっています。かつては西ドイツの“ビートクラブ”と並んでディアノ時代を象徴してきましたが、“ビートクラブ”の方が『COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981』として超アップグレード。こちらは次点に留まることになりました。
大定番だけに様々なジャネが出回っておりますが、本作はその中でもベストと絶賛された『EUROPEAN KILLERS 1981』『MILAN 1981 AND MORE!!』と同じマスター。さすがに『COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981』ほどの超絶ぶりには遠く及びませんが、動画サイト等にアップされているものよりも遙かにクッキリとしていて発色も鮮やか。現在も最高峰を譲らない絶品の映像美です。
“ビートクラブ”と違って本物コンサートをマルチカメラで観られるわけですが、さらに美味しいのがデイヴ・マーレイのギター・ソロと「Drifter」。どちらも“BEAT-CLUB”だけでなく『LIVE AT THE RAINBOW』でも観られない貴重なシーン。いかに“ビートクラブ”が超アップグレードしようとも「やっぱりミラノも必要」となる必携のプロショットなのです。

●DISC 2：多彩な貴重映像を集成したエキストラ映像
そんなミラノ・プロショットの後は、細かい映像６テイクを総まとめにしました。１曲ずつ時系列に並べてありますが、大別すると以下の４種です。
・テレビ番組“TOP OF THE POPS”（２曲）
・テレビ番組“ROCKPOP”（２曲）
・８ミリ・フィルム（１曲）
・全米ツアー中のストア・イベント
“TOP OF THE POPS”と“ROCKPOP”は公式DVD『THE EARLY DAYS』でもお馴染みですが、“ROCKPOP”は『THE EARLY DAYS』に未収録の「Remember Tomorrow」も収録した完全版。曲間のみややダビング劣化も見られますが、ここもエディが番組司会者を殺す貴重な名シーンです。
さらにマニアックに凄いのが貴重な８ミリフィルム。デニス・ストラットン最後ショウの１つ前となる「1980年10月11日コペンハーゲン公演」で撮影されたもの。MAIDEN最古の観客撮影として知られ（公式『THE EARLY DAYS』収録のラスキン・アームズ映像は一応関係者ショット）、海外のコアマニアが数秒ずつの細切れサイレント・フィルムを繋いでいる。そのため厳密には画と音がシンクロしていませんが、この音声も同日のオーディンス録音です。MAIDEN映像で最もヴィンテージ感のある１曲であり、貴重な「動くデニス時代メイデン」です。
そして、最後はニューヨークでのインストア・イベント風景（当時はJUDAS PRIESTと共にニューヨーク・パラディアムで４日連続公演の真っ直中でした）。演奏はありませんが、狭い店内はメタル・キッズで溢れ返り、スティーヴ・ハリスやディアノなど、メンバー達がファンと熱く交流している。MAIDENを初めて迎えたアメリカの熱気がコンサート以上にリアルに伝わってくるドキュメントです。

繰り返しになりますが、最後にディアノ時代コレクションを確認しておきましょう。まず最重要の公式テイクは、オフィシャル品『THE EARLY DAYS』と当店の『THE ULTIMATE COMPILATION 1978-1981（Zodiac 167）』でコンプリート。次いで、最高峰サウンドボード／プロショットはプレス３部作の『DEFINITIVE NIJMEGEN 1981（本編）』とボーナスの『COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981（プレス盤ならZodiac 326）』、そして『DEFINITIVE LIVE KILLERS（Zodiac 163）』でコンプリートです。そして、この５作品で聴けないサウンドボード／観られないプロショットを総ざらいしたのが本作なのです。
