UP THE IRONS!!!

MAIDEN collectors all over the world, despise! The first full soundboard album of the Paul Diano era has been bombed for the first time ever!! Of course, it is decided to permanently save with a press CD of course!!!
“Full sound board of the Diano era”… this enchanting sound. This work is a crystal of long-standing dream. Its identity is a stereo sound board recording of “April 28, 1981 Nejmegen Performance”. This show has long been known for FM broadcasting, and its air check has become one of the standard items. However, this broadcast has good sound, but only 10 songs and less than 45 minutes. For that reason, we have been worshiped by masterpieces such as the FM broadcast “DEFINITIVE LIVE KILLERS (Zodiac 163)” for the first time in Japan and the “COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981 (Zodiac 326)” long shot. However, this time, the master version of such a classic sound board of Nejmegen performance has been unearthed! Finally the birth of the first full-show soundboard board ever!
You may think, “Ah? Isn’t the beat club or FM broadcast in Japan perfect?”, but they were actually slightly different. In order to explain the circumstances, let’s first organize the sound boards/pro shots of the Diano & Adrian era.

Only after joining Adrian, there are 7 types. Among them, the official “LIVE AT THE RAINBOW”, “MAIDEN JAPAN” and the professional performance in Milan are short shots of about 20-30 minutes. The remaining four types are long, but “COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981” is a performance for TV programs that requires re-doing and is not a so-called concert. The FM sound boards of the remaining Japan performances and Milwaukee performances are almost full, but the encore “Prowler” is not included. Even “DEFINITIVE LIVE KILLERS” was not a “complete sound board” because it was complemented by audience recording.
By the way, it is this work that became the first “complete version sound board” in such a situation. Let’s take a look at the full set of the masterpiece here.

…And this is how it looks. “Prowler”, which had been cut even in the FM broadcast of Japan’s highest performance so far, can be enjoyed firmly on the stereo sound board. With such a volume, the full show will be the total settlement for the Diano era. Only three songs “Strange World”, “Charlotte the Harlot” and “Prodigal Son” were not played in the album. Actually, “Strange World” can be heard on the sound board in Japan, but after all “Prowler” is a very important heavy song, and I’m happy that the opening scene of “The Ides Of March” is uncut. It’s too much (“Charlotte the Harlot” can be enjoyed on “COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981”, but “Prodigal Son” has never played live in the first place).
I completely forgot to write it because of the impact of the epoch-making full sound board, but this work also has the highest quality!　Although the vocals of “Sasis Seso” may be a little dusty due to the rough mix of direct connection to the table, the total sound quality itself can be said to be “official”. Of course, that freshness is also a beauty for Bakusaku Maiden in the Diano era. The separation feeling of the twins, which is beautifully separated, the rigorous bassy bass, the roar of wild and wild beasts, and the roar of the beast are all over 5 minutes with that “DEFINITIVE LIVE KILLERS”. It’s a new masterpiece that reigns at the highest peak of the Diano era!

A full sound board from the Diano era that begins with “The Ides Of March” and ends with “Prowler”. It’s a dream crystal for MAIDEN fans, and it’s the same as “Steel’s Virgin” and “Killers”… No, it’s a piece that transcends. After 40 years of debut, I wonder if I can enjoy such bliss. 世界中のMAIDENコレクター諸兄よ、刮目せよ！　史上初となるポール・ディアノ時代のフル・サウンドボード・アルバムが爆誕!!　もちろん無論のプレスCDで永久保存が決定です!!!
「ディアノ時代のフル・サウンドボード」……この魅惑の響き。本作は、まさに長年の夢の結晶。その正体は「1981年４月28日ネイメーヘン公演」のステレオ・サウンドボード録音です。このショウは古くからFM放送が知られ、そのエアチェックが定番の１つとなってきました。しかし、この放送はサウンドこそ良いものの、わずか10曲・45分弱。そのため、初来日のFM放送『DEFINITIVE LIVE KILLERS（Zodiac 163）』や長尺プロショット『COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981（Zodiac 326）』といった名作たちの後塵を拝してきました。しかし、この度、そんな定番ネイメーヘン公演サウンドボードの完全版マスターが発掘！　遂に史上初のフルショウ・サウンドボード盤の誕生となったのです!!
「あれ？　ビートクラブや日本公演FM放送は完全じゃないの？」と思われるかも知れませんが、実はそれぞれ微妙に違っていました。その辺の事情を説明するためにも、まずはディアノ＆エイドリアン時代のサウンドボード／プロショットを整理してみましょう。

あくまでもエイドリアン加入後だけですが、以上の７種類があります。この中で公式の『LIVE AT THE RAINBOW』『MAIDEN JAPAN』やミラノ公演プロショットは20-30分程度の短いもの。残り４種は長尺なのですが、『COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981』はやり直しなどもあるTV番組用パフォーマンスでいわゆるコンサートではない。残る日本公演やミルウォーキー公演のFMサウンドボードは限りなくフルに近いものの、アンコールの「Prowler」は未収録。『DEFINITIVE LIVE KILLERS』にしてもオーディエンス録音で補完しているために「完全サウンドボード」ではありませんでした。
さて、そんな中で初の「完全版サウンドボード」となったのが本作なわけです。その圧巻のフルセット、ここで一望してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。これまで最高峰だった来日公演のFM放送でもカットされていた「Prowler」もしっかりとステレオ・サウンドボードで楽しめる。これだけのボリュームになると、そのフルショウはディアノ時代の総決算ともなる。アルバム収録曲で演奏されなかったのはわずか３曲「Strange World」「Charlotte the Harlot」「Prodigal Son」だけ。実のところ、「Strange World」は来日サウンドボードで聴けたりするのですが、やはり「Prowler」は肝心要の超・重謡曲ですし、「The Ides Of March」の開演シーンもノーカットなのが嬉しすぎます（「Charlotte the Harlot」は『COMPLETE BEAT-CLUB 1981』で楽しめますが、「Prodigal Son」はそもそもライヴ演奏したことがありません）。
あまりにも画期的なフル・サウンドボードの衝撃のせいですっかり書き忘れてしまいましたが、本作はクオリティも極上！　卓直結風の荒っぽいミックスでヴォーカルの「サシスセソ」が少々埃っぽくなる事もあるものの、トータルの音質自体は堂々と「オフィシャル級」と言える。もちろん、その生々しさもディアノ時代の爆走メイデンには美点。綺麗にセパレートしたツインの分離感も、ゴリッゴリ・バッキバキなベースも、ワイルドに暴れるドラムや野獣の咆哮も、あの『DEFINITIVE LIVE KILLERS』と五分以上。まさに「ディアノ時代の最高峰」に君臨する新名盤なのです！

本編プレスCDは、ポール・ディアノ時代唯一となるフルサウンドボード・アルバムです。まさしくディアノ時代の最高傑作なわけですが、その解説でも触れた通り、これまで最高傑作の座に君臨していたのは初来日のFMサウンドボードでした。そこで、新名盤の誕生を祝うボーナスとして、伝統名盤の最高峰版もご用意しました。
そんなの大名盤に封じ込まれたライヴとは、IRON MAIDENを聴く者なら、それもアンダーグラウンド音源を知るものならば避けては通れないライヴ、「1981年５月24日中野サンプラザ・夜の部」です。本編との位置関係を知る意味でも、当時のスケジュールから振り返ってみましょう。

これがエイドリアン・スミス加入からディアノ脱退までの流れ。本編プレスCDのネイメーヘン公演は「欧州#1」の終盤63公演目だったわけですが、初来日はその直後でした。伝説の初来日を象徴してきたのは、某公共放送局による“FMライブ・スペシャル”だったわけですが、当時から人気が沸騰していたIRON MAIDENだけに、ここでタイトルを列挙できないほど無数の既発が生まれました。この駄文を読まれているあなたも、何らかしらの既発を１本はお持ちなのではないでしょうか。その大決定盤として2003年に登場したのが、Langleyレーベルの『LIVE KILLERS』だったのです。放送された全曲どころか番組冒頭から終了を告げるアナウンサーのコメント、放送されなかったアンコールの極上オーディエンスまでも完全収録。さらに、あらゆる既発を凌駕する超高音質サウンドは“IRON MAIDEN究極の１枚”と大絶賛を受け、ありとあらゆる既発を一掃してしまった衝撃作でした。
本作もそのベスト・マスターなのですが、ただの復刻ではなく細心デジタルリマスターで磨き直したもの。録音そのものが持っていたサウンドの限界に挑戦した最高峰更新盤なのです。そのサウンドはまさに至高。高音の鳴りを整え、グッと腰の入った低音にするなど、微に入り細に入っての微調整を繰り返し、“究極”と言われたサウンドの“さらに上”に迫った。さすがにサウンドボード部分は“究極”と賞されただけに劇的な変化とはいきませんでしたが、原音のナチュラルさを殺さない範囲で、可能な限りのトリートメントを施しました。
さて、そんなわけで本作自体が超名盤なわけですが、ボーナス付属で重要なのは「Strange World」です。この曲はエイドリアン加入後に封印されていたのですが、来日に際して復活。本編プレスCDでは聴けない曲を極上ステレオ・サウンドボードでコレクトできるのです。実のところ、ディアノ時代の全曲コンプリートを目指すとなるとまだ足りない。良い機会ですので、ここでコンプリート・プランもご紹介しておきましょう。

・Prodigal Son：ライヴ演奏していない。
