A miracle unit HTP in which two former DEEP PURPLE competed for beautiful voice. A masterpiece original recording that conveys the performance in Japan is now available.
“May 15, 2002: Nagoya BOTTOM LINE performance” is imbued with this work. It is a powerful audience recording. HTP is a unit that was formed when Glenn Hughes accompanied Joe Lynn Turner’s solo visit to Japan. In addition to the proto-type 2000, a total of three combination visits to Japan were realized in 2002/2004. Among them, the official live album “LIVE IN TOKYO” was produced when he came to Japan in 2002 with his debut work “HTP”, and he is also familiar with the masterpiece “OSAKA 2002 (Shades 1029)” at our shop. Above, all 7 performances. Due to the popularity of “HTP”, the number of performances was the highest even in the three duo visits to Japan. The Nagoya performance of this work was the 4th concert in the middle of it.
This work recorded at such a show is a powerful and vivid powerful sound. Recently, it is one of the excavation of DAT masters that have been producing masterpieces in our shop, but this work boasts a special direct feeling even in its Nagoya collection. Even if you listen with headphones, you can hardly feel the hall sound component, and each sound is struck in front of you. It’s so powerful that there is no moment when it becomes over-peak, but it’s also a feeling of a closed room in the narrow “THE BOTTOM LINE”. Of course, the details that are beautifully separated to the finest parts are also wonderful, and it is a super direct sound that escapes barefoot from FM broadcasts.
It is a miracle full show where two singing gods repeat their voices that you can enjoy with such a close contact feeling. The official “LIVE IN TOKYO” was an incomplete recording of the show, probably because it fits on one CD, but this work is a complete recording of a consistent one-shot recording from beginning to end. Joe Lynn Turner and Glenn Hughes couldn’t have been eternal partners because of their personality / career. However, because of the HTP where the singing voices overlap, it gave off a variety of brilliance that could not be experienced solo. If you think about it, it may have been the project that classic rock fans were most pleased with after the two “after purple”. This work is a live album where you can experience the full show of such a miracle unit on site. Now that 20 years have passed, it is a new masterpiece that I would like you to look back on again.

元DEEP PURPLEの２人が美声を競った奇跡のユニットHTP。その日本公演を伝える傑作オリジナル録音が登場です。
そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「2002年５月15日：名古屋BOTTOM LINE公演」。その強力オーディエンス録音です。HTPは、ジョー・リン・ターナーのソロ来日にグレン・ヒューズが同行したのを機に結成に踏み切ったユニット。プロト型の2000年の他、2002年／2004年と計３回のコンビ来日が実現しました。その中でデビュー作『HTP』に伴う2002年来日は公式ライヴアルバム『LIVE IN TOKYO』が制作されたほか、当店では名作『OSAKA 2002（Shades 1029）』でもお馴染み。まずは当時のスケジュールからそれぞれのポジションを確かめておきましょう。

以上、全７公演。『HTP』の好評もあってか３回のコンビ来日でも最多公演数を記録。本作の名古屋公演は、そのド真ん中にあたる４公演目のコンサートでした。
そんなショウで記録された本作は、パワフルでビビッドな強力サウンド。最近、当店で傑作を連発しているDATマスター発掘の１つなのですが、本作はその名古屋コレクションでも格別のダイレクト感を誇っている。ヘッドフォンで聴いてもホール鳴り成分がほとんど感じられず、１音１音が目の前に叩きつけられる。あまりにパワフルなためにオーバーピークになる瞬間もなくはないのですが、それも狭い“THE BOTTOM LINE”の密室感のうち。もちろん、微細部まで綺麗にセパレートしたディテールも見事で、そんじょそこらのFM放送も裸足で逃げ出す超ダイレクト・サウンドです。
そんなド級の密着感で味わえるのは、歌神２人が声を重ねる奇跡のフルショウ。公式『LIVE IN TOKYO』はCD１枚に収めるためかショウの不完全収録でしたが、本作は終始一貫の一発録りの完全収録です。ここで公式盤と比較しながらセットを整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。今週は2000年来日篇の『NAGOYA 2000: DAT MASTER（Shades 1439）』も同時リリースとなりますが、そちらは「ソロの合体」というイメージだったのに対し、本作は新ユニットならではのデュエット曲がたっぷり。より一層、２人の相性の良さが際立つステージになっている。『LIVE IN TOKYO』を基本としつつ、さらに当時アサヒ・スーパー・ドライのCMソングとしてヒットしていた「Challenge Them All」やアンコールのDEEP PURPLEナンバー「Burn」「Highway Star」まで楽しめます。
性格／キャリアからして永遠のパートナーにはなるはずもなかったジョー・リン・ターナーとグレン・ヒューズ。しかし、その歌声が重なり合うHTPだからこそ、ソロでは味わえない多彩な輝きを放っていました。思えば、２人の「パープル後」でクラシックロック・ファンが一番歓喜したプロジェクトだったかも知れません。本作は、そんな奇跡ユニットのフルショウを現場体験できるライヴアルバム。20年が経った今だからこそ、もう一度振り返っていただきたい新名盤です。
