Introducing the tape “Mike Millard Tape” recorded by Mike Millard, a taper familiar to fans with the outstanding technology of audience recording. Several sound sources based on Mike Millard tape have been released from the same label, but if you look closely, there are two types, “Brushed Mike Millard Tape” and “Legendary Mike Millard Tape”. Did you notice that there is? Not all Mike Millard tapes have perfect sound quality, and some of them have room for improvement, and the “Brushed” series has been significantly improved. Originally, it is almost perfect and there is not much room for improvement, and the “Legendary” series is the one that has been kept to a minimum such as light editing between songs.
This time, the 1980 Roxy performance from the “Legendary” series will be released. Phil Collins took the initiative and accumulated more and more famous songs from “Trick of a Tale” in 1976, and it has been reflected in the live performance. And this 1980 tour finally got the number one album on the UK charts, from the album “Duke” to “Dutches”, “Miss Understanding”, “Turn It On Again”, and the big song “Duke’s Travels / Duke’s”. “End” etc. are lined up. The other songs are also super gorgeous, and it is the intro of “Knight of the Moon” that sings after “Deep in the Mother Road”. From there, it connects to “Carpet Crowler” and immediately folds from Phil’s “Greevenin, Every One” to “Sconk”! オーディエンス録音の卓越した技術でファンにはお馴染みのテーパー、マイク・ミラード氏により録音されたテープ『マイク・ミラード・テープ』登場です。同レーベルからマイク・ミラード・テープをマスターにした音源が複数リリースされておりますが、よく見ると『ブラッシュド・マイク・ミラード・テープ』と『レジェンダリー・マイク・ミラード・テープ』の二種類があることにお気付きでしょうか。マイク・ミラード・テープも全てが完璧な音質なわけではなく、中にはかなり手を加えて改良の余地があるものもあり、大幅に手を加えて改良されたものが『ブラッシュド』シリーズ。元々完璧に近く改良の余地があまり無く、曲間等の軽い編集など最低限にとどめてあるものが『レジェンダリー』シリーズとなります。
今回は“レジェンダリー”・シリーズから1980年のロキシー公演が登場です。フィル・コリンズが主導権を握る形となり76年の『トリック・オブ・ア・テイル』からどんどんと名曲を積み重ね、ライヴにも反映されてきました。そして1980年のこのツアーは、ついに全英チャート1位獲得アルバム『デューク』から『ダッチス』『ミスアンダースタンディング』『ターン・イット・オン・アゲイン』といった名曲や、大曲『デュークス・トラベルス／デュークス・エンド』等がラインナップされています。その他の曲も超豪華で『ディープ・イン・ザ・マザーロード』の後おもむろに歌い出すのはなんと『月影の騎士』のイントロ。そこから『カーペット・クロウラー』に繋がりフィルの「グリーヴニン、エヴリワン」から即座にたたみかける『スコンク』！息が止まりそうなカッコよさです。『イン・ザ・ケイジ』には『ザ・コロニー・オブ・スリッパーメン 』が組み込まれていたりちゃんとガブリエル時代の曲も熱演。グランド・フィナーレは定着の『ダンス・オン・ア・ヴォルケーノ』からドラム・デュエットを挟んでの『ロス・エンドス』。極め付きは最後の最後にアルバム『トレスパス』収録のレア曲『ザ・ナイフ』！文句の付け所がありません。
