Gary Moore spent his final days with his ally Phil Lynott in 1985. A live album that conveys that valuable scene is now available.
What is inscribed in this work is “September 23, 1985 Manchester Performance”. This is the audience recording. Gary Moore, who left THIN LIZZY in July 1979, engaged in a war of words with Phil Lynott through the media. The two allies became estranged for a while. That all changed with the duet single “Out In The Fields.” The two, who collaborated again on a famous song with the theme of their hometown, performed together on stage several times. The Manchester performance of this work is one of them. So, how many times have the two of you performed together? This is also a good opportunity, so let’s organize the “live co-stars since THIN LIZZY”.

[January 1986: Phil Lynott passes away]

This is Gary & Phil co-starring again. There was also a TV co-starring to promote the single “Out In The Fields”, but basically it was a style where guests participated in several songs at Gary’s solo performance. It was divided into two parts, the first being the Irish tour that took place immediately after the “Out In The Fields” session. This is the tour that became the official video “EMERALD AISLES”. As mentioned above, 5 performances were held in 3 locations, but which shows they performed together vary depending on the material. There are documents that show all 5 performances, but what is certain is the 2 Belfast performances on “December 17th/18th”, which are also included in the official work.
Another time they appeared together was on the UK tour the following year in 1985. Phil was a guest in 3 of the 16 performances. Of these, the two Hammersmith performances are introduced as our press masterpiece “LONDON 1985 1ST NIGHT (Zodiac 169)” and the gift edition “LAST NIGHT WITH PHIL LYNOTT”, and the Manchester performance of this work is the last one remaining. . In other words, with this work, Gary / Phil’s re-co-starring collection is completed.
The introduction is long, but this work, which is a vacuum-packed version of such a show, is also the latest master that was recently released. It was discovered from the “GMan” collection, which has made a name for itself as a famous German recording artist. The sound is a vintage audience with a fresh master. It cannot be compared to the prestigious Kinney’s treasure “LONDON 1985 1ST NIGHT”, which was also made into a press, but that does not mean it is a bad recording. Although there is an undeniable sense of distance, the core that permeates the space is strong, and the vocals in particular make it easy to understand every word of the lyrics. The essential guitar is also wonderful, and the deep and sharp crying choke and the ever-changing vibrato are clearly transmitted.
Moreover, this work updates the highest peak of the new excavation master. Although the net original sound was the highest ever, the pitch was still quite fast and out of order, and the bass was also thin and spoiled. This work carefully treats those shortcomings. We did not try to increase the sound pressure recklessly, but rather maximized the potential of the original sound.
What is depicted with such a vintage sound is a full show where the greasy “Hard Rockin’ Gary” goes wild. As mentioned above, Phil will only be participating in a few songs, so let’s pay attention to that and organize the full set.

After this work, Phil also appeared as a guest at two Hammersmith performances. He passed away early the next year, 1986. The trilogy of “LONDON 1985 1ST NIGHT” and “LAST NIGHT WITH PHIL LYNOTT” based on this work is not only a valuable collection of Gary/Phil co-stars, but also the last three performances of the heroic Phil Lynott. . The final chapter in which the two Irish HR allies overlap their sounds. Please enjoy this newly discovered best master.

そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「1985年９月23日マンチェスター公演」。そのオーディエンス録音です。1979年７月にTHIN LIZZYを脱退したゲイリー・ムーアは、メディアを通じてフィル・ライノットと舌戦を展開。盟友２人はしばらくの間、疎遠となりました。それが変わったのがデュエット・シングル『Out In The Fields』。故郷をテーマにした名曲で再共演を果たした２人は、ステージでも何度か共演。本作のマンチェスター公演もその１つなのです。では、２人共演は何度実現したのか。良い機会でもありますので、「THIN LIZZY以降のライヴ共演」を整理してみましょう。

これがゲイリー＆フィルの再共演。シングル『Out In The Fields』プロモーションのためのTV共演もありましたが、基本的にはゲイリーのソロ公演に数曲ゲスト参加するスタイルでした。大きく２つに分けられ、最初は『Out In The Fields』セッションの直後に行われたアイルランド・ツアー。公式映像『EMERALD AISLES』ともなった、あのツアーです。上記のように３ヶ所・５公演が行われたのですが、どのショウで共演があったのかは資料によって異なる。５公演全部という資料もありますが、確実なのはオフィシャル作品にも残された「12月17日／18日」のベルファスト２公演です。
もう１つの共演となったのは、翌1985年の英国ツアー。16公演中３公演でフィルがゲスト参加したのです。そのうちハマースミス２公演は当店のプレス名盤『LONDON 1985 1ST NIGHT（Zodiac 169）』とギフト盤『LAST NIGHT WITH PHIL LYNOTT』としてご紹介しており、本作のマンチェスター公演は最後に残った１回。つまり、本作を持ってゲイリー／フィルの再共演コレクションが完成するわけです。
前置きが長くなりましたが、そんなショウを真空パックした本作は、最近公開された最新マスターでもある。ドイツの名録音家として名を上げてきた「GMan」コレクションから発掘されたのです。そのサウンドは、マスター鮮度も瑞々しいヴィンテージ・オーディエンス。プレス化も実現した名門キニーの秘宝『LONDON 1985 1ST NIGHT』とは比べられませんが、だからと言ってダメ録音でもない。距離感は否めないものの、その空間を貫く芯は力強く、特にヴォーカルは歌詞の一語一語までしっかりと分かる。肝心要のギターも素晴らしく、深く鋭く泣くチョーキングも変幻自在なヴィヴラートも克明に伝わるのです。
しかも、本作はその新発掘マスターの最高峰を更新するもの。ネット原音は過去最高ではあったものの、それでもピッチがかなり速く狂っており、低音も痩せてスポイルされていました。本作は、そうした欠点を丁寧にトリートメント。無闇な音圧稼ぎなどは行わず、原音の持っていた可能性を最大限に引き出しました。
そんなヴィンテージ・サウンドで画かれるのは、脂の乗った”ハードロッキン・ゲイリー”が暴れるフルショウ。前述のようにフィルが参加するのは数曲止まりですので、そこに着目しつつフルセットを整理しておきましょう。
