Last week, we released “Royal Albert Hall 2009 7th Night: DAT Master (2CD)”, an amazing master from a heavyweight taper living in the UK, which is familiar in our shop with Eric Clapton’s treasured sound source, and has been well received. Although we have obtained, this week again the heavyweight taper provided a great sound source with superb sound quality. Also in 2009 Clapton performed London, Royal Albert Hall consecutive performances, the day after “Royal Albert Hall 2009 7th Night: DAT Master (2CD)”, May 26, which hit the 8th performance, was the best stereo · It is a DAT master completely recorded with audience recording. This master is also a DAT master with the finest sound quality, as good as “Royal Albert Hall 2009 7th Night: DAT Master (2CD)”. From this sound image, Clapton’s vocals and guitar-centered musical sounds can be heard clearly from the center slightly left, and only support guitarist Andy Fairweather Row’s guitar can be heard from the center slightly right. It is presumed that it was the seat slightly to the right of the left P.A. speaker. In other words, from Andy’s standpoint, his guitar sound was captured directly from the amp. Therefore, on top of the rare stereo separate that you can understand Andy’s support very well, this work is also a superb sound quality that can only be heard like a good sound board recording from the prominence of this musical tone. However, on this day, there was an accident that the DAT tape ran out at the end of the day, but that part was compensated for by another sound source “ROAMING THIS OLD HIGHWAY (4CD)”, which has already been released from our store. Since it is done, it is a level that you do not notice at all unless you are told. Furthermore, the set list changed greatly from the previous day’s “Royal Albert Hall 2009 7th Night: DAT Master (2CD)” on this day, and Layla, who had been playing in the acoustic set in the middle stage until then, was in the final stage with the electric version. The fact that it is now being played also has a great appeal. A Japan tour was also held in 2009, but the set list and band members have changed from the time of the performance in Japan, and this work cannot be removed as a live performance of Clapton in the middle of this year.

You can see that it was a year of very energetic activities, including appearances at charity events and TV programs, and tours around the world. This included a joint concert with Jeff Beck in Japan. And the day of this work was the eighth night of 11 consecutive performances at the local Royal Albert Hall. In other words, it was the timing when I was able to play freely in my familiar hometown.
For those of you who like the sound source of the Japan tour, first of all, I would like you to pay attention to the fact that the drummer has changed from Abe Laborial Jr. to Steve Gadd. Speaking of Clapton’s songs, it can be said that there is no longer a “fit” selection than Gadd. From that absolute sense of security, Clapton has changed the set list dramatically from the time of the Japan tour. It’s different from the opening number. A surprise from Going Down Slow, which will be the first performance in eight years since the 2001 “Reptile Tour”. Both this song and Old Love are played in the arrangement at the time of “Pilgrim Tour” in 1998. This is probably due to the fact that Tim Carmon was on the keyboard even in 1998, and Carmon’s synth solo while the band is developing an uptempo jam in the middle of Old Love is also wonderful. And on this day, Dominos number Got To Get Better In A Little While was set in instead of “JOURNEYMAN” recorded number Anything For Your Love played the day before. Compared to the calm Anything For Your Love, this groovy song is overwhelmingly more exciting, and it is the highlight of the first half. There is a sense of dynamism as if Clapton himself is playing with excitement. The delicious thing is that Clapton has decided on two solos because Andy was a basic rhythm guitarist. Come to think of it, Doyle Bramhall was always on stage playing this song. This performance was the first time that Andy set this song in at the time of support. If you think so, this take is very rare. From this clear sound quality, you can also see that Andy’s support was very successful in his play. Willie Weeks’ bass solo after a break is also good. Moreover, this song was not played in the Japanese performance in February of the same year (Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad was played as a Dominos number in the Japanese performance), as a performance that can be heard only at RAH this year Attention. And I Shot The Sheriff, which is the highlight song of the first half. Clapton’s good performance on this day is also well understood here. The aftertaste solo in this song has a different flavor from the previous day, and you can hear the super-fast playing that makes you beat down with overwhelming power while skipping smoothly. It is a solo that can only be called attractive. This take of this day is also a performance I would like you to listen to. Speaking of rare song selection, Anytime For You. Clapton’s beloved wartime black pianist, Big Maceo’s blues number. This song was my first live cover. As soon as the performance started, the mood became as if the venue had changed to the stage of a rustic bar in America. The main character of the activity is Chris Stinton of the piano. I think that the Clapton band that can realize this mood is amazing, and I also feel the spirit of Clapton trying to inherit it. In the 2003 tour, the standard number Somewhere Over The Rainbow, which was the encore number, was shown in the sitting set in the middle stage, which is nothing but a strange variety.
In contrast to the exciting first half of what will pop out, the second half progresses with a royal set list, but after Layla, Doyle Bramhall, who is now Clapton’s right-hand man, jumps in. Doyle is called by announcing “My Best Friend” before the song. With his participation, it is also a feature that the subsequent songs have a wonderful dynamism. In this series of performances, Doyle was nominated by Clapton and his band, Ark Angels, was serving as a support act. And I was invited by Clapton and participated after Layla. After all, the electric version of Layla makes a big difference in its performance without him. As expected, Andy was set up for the intro and handed over to him, but Doyle is in charge of the seven phrases of the chorus of the chorus, and Doyle is also the obbligato of the A melody. It is clear that this song will shine just by having this. In the piano coda part in the second half, Doyle supports it with a great slide play that reminds me of Duane Allman. Listening to this, perhaps Clapton can not even play the electric version of Layla without him. In the following Cocaine, Clapton cares about “guest” Doyle and entrusts him with the first solo. There is also a sticky long solo that seems to be Doyle, but Clapton takes over the solo from there! Clapton also shows off a clear long solo and returns to the song. This is enough, but the second solo is a full-fledged course that transitions to Andy-Carmon’s synth solo and Chris Stinton’s piano solo, reaching a great denouement. Although it is a Royal Albert Hall performance in 2009 following the release, I would like you to pay attention to this day as well.
It was a rare schedule that was held after the Japan tour, but it was a Royal Albert Hall performance, but the drummer changed, the set list changed significantly, and only on the day Doyle Bramhall participated as a guest, it was a performance in Japan. It is this work that the performance full of different charm is completely recorded with the best sound quality. I hope that this work will be added to the collection as a representative sound source of Clapton in 2009 who was energetically active.
【エリック・クラプトン2009年RAH公演の極上音質ニューマスターがもう一つ登場！】
エリック・クラプトンの秘蔵音源では当店でお馴染みの、イギリス在住の重鎮テーパーからの驚異的な極上マスターを先週は「Royal Albert Hall 2009 7th Night: DAT Master(2CD)」としてリリースさせていただき、ご好評を得ておりますが、今週またもや重鎮テーパーは極上音質の凄い音源を提供してくれました。同じく2009年にクラプトンが行なったロンドン、ロイヤル・アルバート・ホール連続公演から、「Royal Albert Hall 2009 7th Night: DAT Master(2CD)」の翌日、8公演目に当たった5月26日を極上ステレオ・オーディエンス録音で完全収録したDATマスターです。本マスターも「Royal Albert Hall 2009 7th Night: DAT Master(2CD)」に負けず劣らずの、まさに極上音質のDATマスターです。クラプトンのボーカル、ギターを中心とした楽音がセンターやや左からくっきりと聞こえ、サポートギタリストのアンディ・フェアウェザー・ロウのギターだけがセンターやや右から聞こえるというこの音像から、恐らく重鎮テーパーは、最前列かつ左のP.A.スピーカーのやや右の座席だったのではないかと推測されます。つまりアンディの立ち位置から、彼のギターの音はアンプから直で捉えていたわけです。従って、アンディのサポートぶりが非常によく分かる、珍しいステレオセパレートの上に、本作もこの楽音の際立ちから、良質なサウンドボード録音のようにしか聞こえないという極上音質です。但し、この日は最後の最後でDATテープ切れが起こってしまうというアクシデントがあったのですが、その部分を当店既発のこれまた極上音質の別音源「ROAMING THIS OLD HIGHWAY(4CD)」で補填してありますので、言われなければ全く気が付かないレベルとなっています。さらには前日の「Royal Albert Hall 2009 7th Night: DAT Master(2CD)」からは大きくセットリストが変わったのがこの日で、それまで中盤のアコースティックセットでプレイされていたLaylaがエレクトリックバージョンで終盤にプレイされるようになったということでも大きな魅力を秘めています。2009年はジャパン・ツアーも行なわれましたが、日本公演時とはセットリストもバンドメンバーも変わっており、この年中盤のクラプトンのライブとしては本作もはずせない内容となっております。

チャリティイベントやテレビ番組にも出演し、世界各地でツアーも行なった非常に精力的な活動の一年だったことがお分かりいただけるでしょう。ここには日本でのジェフ・ベックとのジョイント・コンサートも含まれていました。そして本作の日は、地元ロイヤル・アルバート・ホールでの11連続公演の8夜目に当たっていました。言わば、慣れた地元で伸び伸びとプレイできたタイミングだったと言えます。
ジャパン・ツアーの音源を気に入っておられる方にも是非注目いただきたいのが、まずはドラマーがエイブ・ラボリアル・ジュニアからスティーヴ・ガッドに替わっていたことです。クラプトンの楽曲と言えば、もはやガッドほど「はまる」人選はないと言ってもいいほどです。その絶対的な安心感から、クラプトンはジャパン・ツアー時とは劇的にセットリストを変更してきたのです。オープニングナンバーからして違います。01年の「レプタイル・ツアー」以来8年ぶりの演奏となるGoing Down Slowからというサプライズ。この曲もOld Loveも、共に98年の「ピルグリム・ツアー」の時のアレンジでプレイされています。このあたりは、98年当時にもキーボードにティム・カーモンがいたことが主因と考えられ、Old Loveの中間、バンドがアップテンポのジャムを展開する中でのカーモンのシンセソロも素晴らしいものです。そしてこの日は、前日にプレイされた「JOURNEYMAN」収録ナンバーAnything For Your Loveに代わり、ドミノスナンバーGot To Get Better In A Little Whileがセットインしました。落ち着いた印象のAnything For Your Loveよりも、ウキウキしてくるグルーヴィーなこの曲の方が圧倒的に興奮度は高く、前半の聴きどころとなっています。クラプトン自身もウキウキしてプレイしているかのような躍動感があります。美味しいのは、アンディが基本リズムギタリストだったため、二度のソロはクラプトンが豪快に決めていることでしょう。考えてみると、この曲をプレイしたステージにはいつもドイル・ブラムホールがいました。アンディがサポートの時にこの曲をセットインさせたのは、この公演が初だったのです。そう思うと、このテイクは非常にレアです。このクリアな音質からして、アンディのサポートぶりも彼らしいプレイで非常に的を得ていたこともよく判ります。一旦ブレイクしてのウィリー・ウィークスのベースソロもグッドです。しかもこの曲は同年2月の日本公演ではプレイされていなかっただけに（日本公演ではドミノスナンバーとしてはWhy Does Love Got To Be So Sadがプレイされました）、この年のRAHだけで聴けるパフォーマンスとして注目です。そして前半のハイライト曲であるI Shot The Sheriff。この日のクラプトンの好調ぶりはここでもよく分かります。この曲での後奏のソロは、前日とはまた趣きが変わり、快調に飛ばしつつ圧倒的な力でねじ伏せるような超速弾きが聴かれます。魅力的というしかないソロです。この日のこのテイクも是非聴いていただきたいパフォーマンスです。またレアな選曲と言えば、Anytime For You。クラプトンの敬愛する戦中派の黒人ピアニスト、ビッグ・メイシオのブルースナンバーです。この曲はライブでは初カバーでした。演奏が始まった途端、会場がアメリカの鄙びた酒場のステージに変わったかのようなムードになります。その活躍の主人公はピアノのクリス・スティントンです。このムードが実現できるクラプトンバンド、凄いと思いますし、それを継承しようとするクラプトンの心意気にも感じ入ります。2003年ツアーではアンコールナンバーだったスタンダードナンバーSomewhere Over The Rainbowを中盤のシッティングセットで披露しているのもバラエティの妙というほかはありません。
何が飛び出すか、ワクワクする前半に対し、後半は王道的なセットリストで進行しますが、何とLayla以降に、現在はクラプトンの右腕となったドイル・ブラムホールが飛入りしています。曲前には「マイ・ベスト・フレンド」とアナウンスしてドイルを呼び出しています。彼の参加により、これ以降の楽曲に素晴らしい躍動感が出ていることも特長となっています。この連続公演では、ドイルはクラプトンに指名され、彼のバンド、アーク・エンジェルスがサポートアクトを務めていたのでした。そしてクラプトンに声を掛けられてLayla以降に参加したわけです。やはりエレクトリックバージョンのLaylaは、彼がいるいないでその出来栄えに大きな差が出ます。イントロは、さすがにアンディを立てて、彼に譲っていますが、サビのコーラスの７連フレーズはドイルが担当しているほか、Aメロのオブリガートもドイルが務めています。これがあるだけでもこの曲が映えるのは明らかです。後半のピアノコーダパートでは、ドイルはデュエイン・オールマンを想起させる素晴らしいスライドプレイでサポートしています。これを聴くと、恐らくクラプトンは、彼なしではエレクトリックバージョンのLaylaをプレイできないのではないかとさえ思えるほどです。続くCocaineでは、クラプトンは「ゲスト」のドイルに気を遣い、ファーストソロを彼に委ねます。ドイルらしい粘りのあるロングソロも聴きごたえがあるのですが、何とそこからクラプトンがソロを引き継ぎます！クラプトンも冴え渡ったロングソロを披露して、歌に戻ります。これでも十分なのですが、セカンドソロはアンディ～カーモンのシンセソロ、そしてクリス・スティントンのピアノソロへと移行し、大団円を迎えるという、お腹いっぱいコースです。リリースの続く2009年のロイヤル・アルバート・ホール公演ですが、是非この日もご注目いただきたいと思います。
ジャパン・ツアーの後に行なわれたという珍しい日程だったロイヤル・アルバート・ホール公演でしたが、ドラマーがチェンジし、セットリストも大幅に変わり、ドイル・ブラムホールがゲスト参加した日だけに、日本公演とはまた違った魅力に溢れているパフォーマンスが極上音質で完全収録されているのが本作です。精力的に活動していた2009年のクラプトンの代表的音源として是非本作もコレクションに加えていただければと思います。
