【1985年ツアーの有名サウンドボード音源がマルチトラックリールからのダイレクトトランスファーで初登場！】

今週はエリック・クラプトンの有名ライブ音源のマルチトラックリールマスターをリリースします！本作は、1985年の全米ツアー・ファースト・レッグから、4月22日、米バージニア州リッチモンド公演を最高のステレオ・オーディエンス録音で完全収録したものです。本マスターについても、イギリス在住の重鎮テーパーから突然もたらされた本邦初公開となる驚きのマスターです。音源事態は、1985年当時、日本のFMラジオでもオンエアされたこともある、元々はアメリカのライブ番組「キングズ・ビスケット・フラワー・アワー」で放送された有名なものです。アナログ盤時代からブートレッグとして音盤化されてきた上にCD時代になってもプレFMバージョンの完全版がリリースされ、クラプトンファンなら「一家に一枚」の有名音源となりました。素晴らしい音質とパフォーマンスの良さから、クラプトンの85年音源としては複数のレーベルでCD化されてきたもので、近年では（ハーフ）オフィシャル盤として「VIRGINIA ’85」というタイトルもリリースされていますので、「ああ、もうこの音源なら事足りている」と思われる方もいらっしゃるでしょう。ところが、それらすべてがFM放送バージョン、もしくはプレFMバージョンを収録していました（中ではオフィシャル盤CD「VIRGINIA ’85」は信じ難い劣悪な音質のソースを使用していましたが）。それでも十分な高音質だとは言えたのですが、今回重鎮テーパーがもたらしたのは、コンサートをマルチトラックでレコーディングしたリールからのダイレクトトランスファーカセットだったのです！この澄み渡り深みのある音質、迫力満点の音像、心躍るステレオセパレート、公式レコーディングされたマルチトラックならではのド迫力のサウンドなのです。マルチトラックリールマスターのCD化は世界初でしょう。本作が「リッチモンド1985」の究極のバージョンです。重鎮テーパーから送られてきた本マスターにはコメントが添えられていました。「君のお店のお客さんはこれを聴けばきっとぶっ飛ぶ（Blown Away）だろうね。」でした。どうぞぶっ飛んでください。

それではここでこの年におけるこの公演の意味合いを時系列で明らかにしておきましょう。

・198512月3日～23日：一応オフ、しかしこの間、バディ・ガイ＆ジュニア・ウェルズ、スティング、ゲイリー・ブルッカー、ダイアー・ストレイツらのコンサートに飛入りし、ステージに立つ

この日は、全米ツアー、ファースト・レッグの中盤だったことがお判りいただけるでしょう。前年にレコーディングが完了したアルバム「BEHIND THE SUN」が前月にリリースされたことを受け、このアルバムのプロモーションのためにヨーロッパ・ツアーで自信を深め臨んだ一大マーケット、アメリカでの勝負を懸けたステージだったのです。クラプトンには何の不安もなかったでしょう。アルコール中毒をほぼ克服し、ルックスもとても精悍になっていました。彼はまた新しい自分を見せられることに喜びを感じていたに違いありません。それはセットリストに現われていました。意欲作「BEHIND THE SUN」からはSame Old Blues、Tangled In Love、Behind The Sun、Never Make You Cry、She’s Waiting、Forever Manと何と6曲ものナンバーがセットインしていました。6月以降のセカンド・レッグでは、それが4曲に後退してしまいますので、いかにこのファースト・レッグでクラプトンが新作からのナンバーを聴かせたかったかが窺い知れるというものです。この日もSame Old Bluesをはじめ全編でクラプトンの凄まじいプレイが際立っています。さらに嬉しいことに、この日のDouble Troubleは、歴史に残る名演です。さすが、クラプトン。ブルースでは一層燃え上がるんですね。そしてLaylaのソロもFurther On Up the Roadのソロも凄すぎます！やはりライブ・アーティスト、エリック・クラプトンのステージはできることなら全キャリア、全公演分すべてを聴いてみたくなります。この日フィーチャーされているマーシー・レヴィのナンバーもセカンド・レッグのそれとは違っているという妙味もあります。時期的には、これから半年に渡ってツアーを進めていくという、気力に満ちたスタート地点に立っていたタイミングでした。これ以降、「デヴィッド・レターマン・ショウ」にも出演し、あの「ライブ・エイド」でクラプトン健在なりを世界に示すことになる道程のスタートが本公演だったと言ってもいいでしょう。この日の音源がブートでは有名になった理由、それは単にFMラジオで放映されたステレオ・サウンドボード録音の完全版であったことだけではありません。とにかくこの日のクラプトンのプレイすべてが素晴らしい。セットリストが魅力。最高だからです。今にして思えば、80年にリリースした名盤ライブ「JUST ONE NIGHT」に続き、この音源を公式ライブ盤としてリリースしておくべきだったと思います（実際のライブ盤次回作は91年の「24 NIGHTS」でした）。そう考えるに相応しい内容のステージです。

【この時期だけの一流バックメン】
バックメンには、83年ツアーの流れからスタックスの名ベーシスト、ドナルド・ダック・ダンとタルサ・トップスのジェイミー・オールデイカーという、クラプトンの歴代バンドの中でも最強のリズム・セクションと言っていい二人が在籍していた時期でした。どうぞ、この時期のみクラプトンをサポートした故ドナルド・ダック・ダンの弾むベースプレイと、手数が多く、ダイナミックな故ジェイミー・オールデイカーのドラミングと共に、メンバー紹介でクラプトンを紹介するダック・ダンのユニークなコメントもお楽しみください（クラプトンはダック・ダンとは本当にウマが合ったようで、83年に自身のレーベルを立ち上げた際には「ダック・レコード」と名付けたほどでした）。さらには後に「ギルモア・ピンク・フロイド」をサポートするイギリス古参のギタリスト、ティム・レンウィックのプレイが聴ける唯一のツアーでもあります。まったくミストーンのない手堅い彼のプレイも聴きどころとなっています。彼の個性溢れるプレイはI Shot The SheriffとWhite RoomでのオブリガートやLay Down Sallyのソロ（この曲ではクラプトンがソロを彼に譲っています)、Badge、Cocaineのセカンドソロ、Forever Manの締めのソロで聴くことができます。そして忘れてならないのが、現在もクラプトンをサポートしているクリス・スティントンです。冒頭のシンセとピアノによるプロローグから、各曲でピアノ、オルガン、シンセサイザーと大活躍です。彼がいたからこそ「BEHIND THE SUN」の楽曲がライブで再現できたと言っても過言ではない貢献度です。38年前にもこの二人の絆は固かった。ブラッキー・ストラトの響き渡るトーンとともに、彼らのサポートぶりも聴き込んでいただきたい素晴らしいステージです。「ビハインド・ザ・サン・ツアー」を代表する名音源の一つと断言できる本作。バイタリティに満ちたクラプトンを捉えた、世界中のどこでもリリースされたことのなかった初公開マルチ・トラック・リールマスターを当店独占でリリース致します。どうぞお早めのオーダーをお願い致します。

This week we will be releasing a multi-track reel master of Eric Clapton’s famous live recordings! This work is a complete recording of the Richmond, Virginia, USA performance on April 22nd from the first leg of the 1985 US tour with the best stereo audience recording. This master is also a surprising master that was suddenly brought to Japan by a heavyweight taper living in the UK and will be released for the first time in Japan. The sound source situation is a famous one that was originally broadcast on the American live program “King’s Biscuit Flower Hour”, which was also aired on Japanese FM radio in 1985. It has been released as a bootleg since the analog disc era, and even in the CD era, a complete pre-FM version was released, and it has become a famous sound source that Clapton fans should have as a “one in the family”. Due to its excellent sound quality and good performance, it has been released on CD by multiple labels as Clapton’s 1985 sound source, and in recent years it has also been released as a (half) official edition with the title “VIRGINIA ’85”. Some of you may be thinking, “Oh, this sound source is already enough.” However, all of them contained FM broadcast versions or pre-FM versions (although the official CD “VIRGINIA ’85” used a source with unbelievably poor sound quality). I could say that the sound quality was still high enough, but what the heavyweight taper brought us this time was a direct transfer cassette from the reel that recorded the concert on multi-track! This clear and deep sound quality, powerful sound image, exciting stereo separation, and powerful sound that can only be achieved with officially recorded multi-tracks. This is probably the world’s first CD version of the multi-track Reel Master. This work is the ultimate version of “Richmond 1985″. You can see that this day was the middle of the first leg of the US tour. The album “BEHIND THE SUN”, which had been recorded the previous year, had been released the previous month, and to promote this album, they had strengthened their confidence through a European tour.The stage was set for them to compete in America, a major market. That’s how it was. Clapton would have had no worries. He had almost overcome his alcoholism and his looks had become very fearless. He must have been happy to be able to show off his new self again. It appeared on the set list. The ambitious work “BEHIND THE SUN” included a whopping 6 songs including Same Old Blues, Tangled In Love, Behind The Sun, Never Make You Cry, She’s Waiting, and Forever Man. . In the second leg after June, it falls back to four songs, so you can see how much Clapton wanted to listen to the numbers from the new work in this first leg. On this day as well, Clapton’s tremendous play stands out throughout the whole story, including Same Old Blues. What makes me even happier is that the Double Trouble on this day is a masterpiece that will go down in history. As expected, Clapton. It gets even more intense with the blues. And Layla’s solo and Further On Up the Road’s solo are amazing! After all, if possible, I would like to listen to all of Eric Clapton’s performances throughout his career as a live artist. There is also the oddity that Marcy Levy’s number featured on this day is different from that of the second leg. In terms of timing, we were at the starting point full of energy, with plans to proceed with the tour over the next six months. After this, he also appeared on the “David Letterman Show”, and it can be said that this performance was the start of his journey to show the world that Clapton was alive and well at that “Live Aid”. Enjoy the bouncy bass playing of the late Donald Duck Dunn, who only supported Clapton during this period, and the slow and dynamic drumming of the late Jamie Oldaker, as well as Duck Dunn’s unique comments introducing Clapton.
