Extremely rare and vintage reel-to-reel version reissue] This week, one work released as Eric Clapton’s “vintage reprint project” is the main board. This edition is a CD version of Clapton’s solo debut album “ERIC CLAPTON” released in the United States in 1970. Like the other “DELANEY AND BONNIE AND FRIENDS ON TOUR WITH ERIC CLAPTON” released this time, the open reel, which was one of the formats for listening to music at home from the latter half of the 1960s to the 1970s, is a cassette tape. Since it is a wider tape than the tape, the arrow once for recording sound information is naturally large, the sound is good with stereo recording, and due to the structure, scratch noise like a record does not occur, but there were great merits such as during playback. It disappeared from the market earlier than cassette tapes because of the trouble, difficulty of skipping songs, and the high price. The extremely rare reel work released in 1970 is now available along with “DELANEY AND BONNIE AND FRIENDS ON TOUR WITH ERIC CLAPTON”. We hope that you will enjoy the analog-tic and warm sound that revives the times on this board.
[Recording level and sound pressure different from vinyl records and CDs are attractive! ] Upon release, this board has been digitized as it is recorded on the open reel tape. When I checked the contents in detail, unlike the US record released in the same year, the recording level of side A was different depending on the song, but I did not adjust it. In particular, 2-4TRK was closer to the right in terms of sound pressure, but it seems that this is a good balance, so I leave it as it is. The sound pressure is stable on the B side, but when playing the reel, both sides were adjusted to play under the same conditions. In other words, the intention is to keep the release state at that time and enjoy this unique format of that era. I don’t know why this difference was made only in the reel version of this work. However, nowadays, it can be said that it is a super rare & vintage open reel that you can enjoy including such a mystery. Eric Clapton’s first solo album “ERIC CLAPTON” released in August 1970. It is a well-known fact that there are three types of mixes, but this work is a mix of Tom Dowd, the famous producer who produced that “LAYLA AND OTHER ASSORTED LOVE SONGS”, like the usual US ATCO record board. It has been adopted. Now that all three mixes have been officially released, it’s an environment where you can enjoy the differences between each mix, but the smartest and least crafted one is the Tom Dowd mix (and others). In the mix of, you can see the work of adding rehearsal sounds, counts, etc., and echoing the vocals). This time, you can listen to it with the unique sound balance and sound pressure of the extremely rare open reel format. It can be said that this year was the year when Clapton’s first solo album was a hot topic, but in the end, the main album was about to appear. I hope you will take this opportunity to appreciate Clapton’s first solo with the warm, analog-like sound of that era.

【激レアかつヴィンテージなリール・トゥ・リールバージョンの復刻盤】
今週、エリック・クラプトンの「ヴィンテージ復刻企画」としてリリースする1作が本盤です。本盤は、70年にアメリカでリリースされたクラプトンのソロデビューアルバム「ERIC CLAPTON」のアンペッグ・オープンリールバージョンをCD化したものです。今回リリースする、もう1作の「DELANEY AND BONNIE AND FRIENDS ON TOUR WITH ERIC CLAPTON」同様、60年代後半～70年代にかけて、一般家庭で音楽鑑賞する際のフォーマットの一つだったオープンリールは、カセットテープよりも幅広なテープなため、当然音情報を記録するアロウワンスも大きく、ステレオ録音でかつ音が良く、構造上、レコードのようなスクラッチノイズは発生しない等メリットは大きかったのですが、再生時の手間や曲跳ばしの困難さ、高価格という理由等からカセットテープよりも早く市場から姿を消してしまいました。70年に発売されていた、その激レアなリール作品が「DELANEY AND BONNIE AND FRIENDS ON TOUR WITH ERIC CLAPTON」と共にこのたび入手できたというわけです。本盤であの時代を甦らせるアナログチックでウォームなサウンドを是非味わっていただければと思います。
【レコード盤、CDとは異なる録音レベルと音圧が逆に魅力！】
リリースに当たり、本盤ではオープンリールテープに収録されているそのままの状態でデジタル化しています。内容を細かくチェックしましたところ、同年にリリースされたUS盤のレコードとは異なり、A面は曲によって録音レベルがバラバラでしたが調整していません。特に2～4TRKは音圧的には右に寄っていましたが、バランスとしてはこれで合ってるようなのでそのままにしています。B面は音圧が安定していますが、リール再生時には両面共に同じ条件での再生に合わせました。つまり当時のリリース状態のままにして、あの時代のこの独自フォーマットを楽しんでいただこうという意図です。なぜ本作のリールバージョンだけにこのような違いが生まれたのか、その理由は判りません。しかし今ではこうした謎も含めて楽しめるのが、激レア＆ヴィンテージオープンリールだと言えるでしょう。1970年8月にリリースされた、エリック・クラプトンのソロ名義では初となるアルバム「ERIC CLAPTON」。3種類のミックスが存在することは周知の事実ですが、本作は通常のUS ATCOレコード盤と同じく、あの「LAYLA AND OTHER ASSORTED LOVE SONGS」をプロデュースした名プロデューサー、トム・ダウドがミックスしたものが採用されています。現在はオフィシャルで3種類のミックスすべてがリリースされ、それぞれのミックスの違いを楽しめる環境になりましたが、最もスマートで細工をしていないのが、このトム・ダウド・ミックスだと言えます（他のミックスでは、リハーサルの音やカウント等を入れたり、ボーカルにエコーをかけていたりという細工が見られます）。それが今回、激レアなオープンリールフォーマット独自のサウンドバランスと音圧で聴くことができるというわけです。今年はクラプトンのファーストソロアルバムが話題を巻き起こした年だったと言えますが、最後には本盤の登場が控えていたのです。是非この機会に、あの時代のウォームでアナログチックなサウンドでクラプトン・ファーストソロを鑑賞していただければと思います。
