This is 1981 of DURAN DURAN. BBC’s “IN CONCERT” was the year-end “December 17th” show, but this work was a long time ago. The tour started immediately after the debut work “DURAN DURAN” was released, and it was the 9th performance of “UK # 2”.
This work that recorded such a show is a shining audience recording of the prestigious Kinney character. Kinney recording is a sound that thoroughly pursues the clearness unique to the audience rather than the sound board-like close contact feeling, but this work can be said to be its “extreme”. Anyway, it is super clear from corner to corner. Andy’s guitar can be picked up to a little picking nuance, and if Nick’s keyboard shines down, Simon’s vocals that go through all of them are also clearly defined by words and words of MC.

まさに衝撃の新発掘マスターに吹き込まれていたのは「1981年７月９日ロンドン公演」。伝統の名会場“ハマースミス・オデオン”で記録された極上オーディエンス録音です。「1981年のハマースミス」と言えば、公式化もされたBBCの“IN CONCERT”も有名ですが、本作はまったくの別公演。その辺の関係を理解する意味でも、当時のスケジュールからショウのポジションを確かめておきましょう。

これがDURAN DURANの1981年。BBCの“IN CONCERT”は年末「12月17日」のショウでしたが、本作はそれよりずっと前。デビュー作『DURAN DURAN』リリース直後からツアーを開始しており、その「英国#2」９公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウを記録した本作は、名門キニーらしさ全開の輝けるオーディエンス録音。キニー録音はサウンドボード的なド密着感よりもオーディエンスならではのクリアさを徹底的に追究したサウンドが個性ですが、本作はその“極み”と言ってもいい。とにかく隅から隅まで超クリア。アンディのギターはちょっとしたピッキングのニュアンスまで分かりますし、ニックのキーボードがキラキラと降り注げば、そのすべてを貫くサイモンのヴォーカルも歌詞やMCの一語一語までえらくクッキリとしています。
実のところ、低音が軽かったりもするのですが、それもスポイルされていたり、ボケているわけではない。むしろリズム隊こそ微細部まで超鮮明でして、ジョンのベースはアタック音のハネ具合からヴァイヴまで克明で、ロジャーのドラムも輪郭が恐ろしく鋭く、はキットの構造が目に浮かぶほど立体的。腹を蹴り上げるようなド迫力ではないものの、鮮やかさに関してはそんじょそこらのサウンドボードやFM音源さえ問題外にする超クリア・サウンドなのです。しかも、そんなサウンドがショウによく似合う。デビュー直後とあってか若々しくハジける勢いが素晴らしく、とにかくフレッシュ。本作のサウンドは、その輝きを何倍にも引き上げてくれるのです。
そんなサウンドで描かれるのは、初期なればこその名曲が山盛り。定番のBBC“IN CONCERT”でも聴けないナンバーも大量に披露していますので、比較しながらセットを整理してみましょう。

Therefore, we have prepared a superb video collection of professional shots of TV appearances from 1981.
Included in this work are 7 types and 16 songs of pro-shot live (+ α). It ranges from rare to familiar images, but is recorded by the best masters selected by overseas enthusiasts. These nine types can be broadly classified into four. Let’s introduce each individually.
Most of them are mimes, but you can witness a stylish performance that embodies neuro-romantic with the best professional shots. Among them, the live performance “OLD GRAY WHISTLE TEST”, which appeared two days before the main press 2CD, is a masterpiece shot that will give you a glimpse of the “opposite side” of the best live album. [September 11, 1981 “MANDAGSBORSEN” (4 songs)] Up to this point, it was a one-shot appearance, but the following are four stage live images. The first is the Swedish TV program “MANDAGSBORSEN”, which is the “Europe # 1” period in this commentary. This is already superb. Although this work is a masterpiece master set chosen by mania, the air check master is the main. On the other hand, these four songs are thought to have been digitized by Daimoto Master, are super beautiful even with modern digital standards, and are outstanding high quality images in this work.

本編プレス２CDは、名門キニーがデビュー間もないDURAN DURANのフル・ステージを記録した文化遺産級のライヴアルバム。もちろん、本来であればボーナスなど不要の大傑作なのですが、デビュー時代の衝撃は映像でこそ鮮烈です。そこで、1981年当時のテレビ出演プロショットを集成した極上映像集もご用意しました。
そんな本作に収められているのは７種・16曲分のプロショット・ライヴ（＋α）。レア物からお馴染みの映像まで多彩ですが、海外マニアが選び抜いた極上マスターで収録されています。この９種も大きく４つに分類できる。それぞれ個別にご紹介していきましょう。
【個別出演のTVプロショット（５種・６曲）】
最初に登場するのは曲単位の短いテレビ出演。英国の名物番組“TOP OF THE POPS”・“OLD GREY WHISTLE TEST”・“GET SET FOR SUMMER”の映像を集めたもので、アルバム発売前の1981年３月から「英国#2」が終了した1981年８月までの出演です。“TOP OF THE POPS”にはシングルが発売されるたびに出演しており、３月・５月・８月の３回分が収録されています。
ほとんどはマイムだったりしますが、ニューロマンティックを体現したスタイリッシュなパフォーマンスを極上プロショットで目撃できる。中でも生演奏の“OLD GREY WHISTLE TEST”は本編プレス２CDの２日前の出演であり、極上ライヴアルバムの“向こう側”を垣間見押せてくれる傑作ショッットです。
【1981年９月11日“MANDAGSBORSEN”（４曲）】
ここまでは単発の出演でしたが、続くは４曲のステージ・ライヴ映像。まずは本編解説の「欧州#1」時期にあたるスウェーデンのテレビ番組“MANDAGSBORSEN”です。これがもう、超極上。本作はマニアが選んだ傑作マスター揃いではありますが、そうは言ってもエアチェック・マスターがメイン。それに対し、この４曲は大元マスターからデジタル化されていると思われ、現代デジタル基準でも超美麗であり、本作でも群を抜くハイクオリティ映像です。
そして、４曲とは言え生演奏なのも嬉しい。この番組はホテルのカジノに設営された特別ステージで行われるため、通常のコンサートと違って観客はテーブルを囲んで座り、反応も大人しい。しかし、観客を前にした演奏も歌声も生々しく、強烈に発散される「そこにいる」感はマイムでは決して味わえません。
【1981年11月30日“OFF THE RECORD”（６曲）】
最後のプロショットこそ、正真正銘のコンサート・プロショット。本編解説の「欧州#2」にあたるチチェスター公演を放送した“OFF THE RECORD”です。画質的には公式ビデオを１回ダビングしたようなクオリティで、“MANDAGSBORSEN”には及ばないものの十分に美麗です。
カジノの一角だった“MANDAGSBORSEN”とは違い、広いステージを動き回るパフォーマンスは本来の輝きそのもの。やはり観客は座っているものの、ノリや熱狂は間違いなく本物のファンであり、そんな観客を目の当たりにしているからこその熱演は素晴らしい。シングルＢ面曲の「Faster Than Light」辺りから総立ちになり、次作に収録される「My Own Way」も披露。本作最大の６曲というボリュームで本来のショウを目撃できます。
そんな７種のライヴ映像の後には、さらに貴重映像。レアなインタビュー映像を２種ボーナス収録しています。当時は平均年齢20.8歳だった彼らが初々しくも真摯に語る姿を楽しめます。
