Dio / Atlanta 1990: Westwood One Broadcast / 1CDR / Shades
Atlanta Civic Center, Atlanta, GA, USA 2nd October 1990
Super Rare: Upgraded soundboard album from the Rowan Robertson era! The world’s first “Wild One” line-take that you can listen to is now available.
“October 2, 1990 Atlanta performance” is recorded in this work. This is the FM soundboard recording. Speaking of the “LOCK UP THE WOLVES” era, it is a singular point in the history of DIO that is completely different from others. While continuing from the golden age, everyone except Ronnie James Dio has been replaced. The music is melodious metal that is different from the heavy route since the reunion, but it is also different from the nostalgia of the 2000s. Men such as Jens Johansson / Teddy Cook (hidden master!), New songs that were not played at all after that, etc. It was exactly “DIO only here”.
Such a delicious “1990 version of DIO” is exceptionally rare. There are no official live songs left, only 2 pro shots, and only 2 types of sound boards. This work is an upgraded version of the longest sound board among them. It’s a good opportunity, so let’s look back at the schedule at the time and organize the three professional records.
《“LOCK UP THE WOLVES” to be released on May 15》
・ May 16-June 1: Europe (12 performances) ← *Pro shot (2 songs)
・ August 1-28: North America # 1 (21 performances)
・ September 1: Mannheim performance
・ September 4th-October 7th: North America # 2 (22 performances) ← * 2 types of SBD
This is DIO in 1990. The pro shot is the Dortmund performance of “Europe” (both songs are included in our gift board “THE YEAR OF THE WOLF Definitive Edition”), but both sound board albums are “North America # 2”. One is the press masterpiece “FINAL NIGHT 1990 (Zodiac 050)” of the final Dallas performance, and the other is this work of the Atlanta performance five days before (3 performances before).
The sound board recording has been known for a long time, and we have introduced it as a bonus CDR at our shop. While this work is also a standard sound board, the contents are completely different. It is a new excavation master with upgraded length and sound. Its true identity was broadcast on WESTWOOD ONE’s famous program “High Voltage”. It has not been decided which broadcast the conventional version will be, but this time the version has a DJ comment before the performance, and the broadcasting station and program name are clearly spoken.
What’s more, the song “Wild One”, a symbolic song of Rowan’s era, begins under the guidance of the DJ! A rare song that not only did not exist on the previous master, but also could not be heard on the other two soundboards “THE YEAR OF THE WOLF” and “FINAL NIGHT 1990”. A soundboard take of a famous song that had only been recorded by the audience until now has finally been discovered!! Let’s organize the contents of the set here.

… and it looks like this. “Egypt (The Chains Are On)” will also appear for the first time in this WESTWOOD ONE broadcast version. Instead, “The Mob Rules” was not broadcast, but in this work a bonus is added from the conventional board. We have covered the existing Atlanta SBD.
“Wild One” and “Egypt (The Chains Are On)” have been increased, and the sound has become much clearer. If it is WESTWOOD ONE, there may be a broadcast master left somewhere. Preservation press is a suitable new excavation. A groundbreaking sound board album that will be the longest and highest peak of the Rowan era. Please enjoy it to the fullest!
★ FM sound board recording of “October 2, 1990 Atlanta performance”. “LOCK UP THE WOLVES Tour” The longest soundboard has been upgraded in length and sound. “Wild One” and “Egypt (The Chains Are On)”, which were not included in the conventional edition, are also groundbreaking WESTWOOD ONE broadcast versions, and in particular, the SBD take of “Wild One” is the world’s first appearance. “The Mob Rules”, which is not included in this version, is also recorded as a bonus with the conventional master, covering the existing Atlanta SBD.
