チャーリー・ワッツにとって、前年の初来日ストーンズに続いての2年連続の来日となった、アルバム「From One Charlie」に伴う1991年日本ソロツアーは9月15日～18日まで青山スパイラルで行われました。内容はチャーリーが1964年に出版した絵本（チャーリーはインタビューで書いたのは1960年と応えています。）をもとに、敬愛するジャズマン「チャーリー・パーカー」のトリビュート盤として制作されたアルバムを、「CHARLIE WATTS QUINTET」としてライヴで再現するもので、曲間ナレーターはバーナード・ファウラーが務めています。当時、ロンドン、ニューヨークなどの主要都市を中心にコンサートが行われましたが、91年9月に日本でのライヴも実現しました。本タイトルは、青山スパイラルでのライヴではなく、当時、衛星放送会社が企画収録したライヴを収めており、日時はツアー最終日の9月18日（時間は午前10時から午後4時まで）、浅草の専用スタジオで、実際のコンサートと同じ曲目とステージの展開で収録されたとのことです。この映像は11月15日に衛星放送でオンエアされたもの。マニア中のマニアが大切に保存していたマスタービデオをダイレクトにDVDしたもので、画質は極上で、このまま公式にも使用可能な程のクオリティです。チャーリーの1991年の東京でのソロライヴを、これほど綺麗な画質でじっくりと楽しめるのはファンにとって、とても嬉しいことではないでしょうか。チャーリーの、ストーンズの叩き方とは違うプレイスタイルがたっぷりと観れるのもファンには堪らないことでしょう。放送されたわけですので、レアということはないはずなのですが、今後、貴重な一本となること間違いありません。海外のファンも大いに喜んでくれるであろう、大変、良質な一本です。オリジナル・メニュー付き。
