Boston / Philadelphia 1976 / 1CD / Zion
Live at Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA, USA 18th December 1976
BOSTON at the time of its debut that shocked the whole world with “Genso Hikou”. Along with the popular “CLEVELAND 1976”, the masterpiece that made up the initial sound board trilogy has been upgraded. It is a press CD that permanently preserves the detailed mastering sound by “GRAF ZEPPELIN” and will be released at the same time.
Engraved on this work, which is the second installment of the trilogy, is “Performance in Philadelphia on December 18, 1976”. It is the stereo sound board recording. I wrote “sound board trilogy” at the beginning, but what kind of position will each be? Let’s take a bird’s eye view from the whole view of the activities in the debut era.
●1976
・ August 10: North America #1a (1 performance)
《August 25th, “Genso Hikou” will be released》
・ August 27 + 28: North America #1b (2 performances)
・September 26-December 18: North America #2 (55 performances) ← Coco
●1977
・ February 1-May 25: North America # 3 (90 performances) ← * LONG BEACH 1977
This is BOSTON in 1976/1977. The Philadelphia performance of this work was the final performance of “North America # 2” and was also the last show in 1976. This is about three months after the recently released “CLEVELAND 1976 (Zion-218)” and about three months before the simultaneous release of “LONG BEACH 1977 (Zion-221)”. It is a medium-length sound board album that is in the middle of the trilogy.
“The quality of this work is of the highest quality.” “CLEVELAND 1976” was a soundboard that looked like an official work, but this work is rather a direct connection to the desk. It doesn’t feel like it was mixed and arranged afterwards, and the bare core is vivid. The mix feels more like a raw vacuum-packed instrumental vibe than a home audio reproduction of a concert venue.
And this work is also the highest peak update board of such a real sound board. As a matter of fact, it is a sound board that has been known for a long time, and the existing “LOOK AHEAD” that came out about 15 years ago was also called “official class”. Although this work is also the same sound board, the master freshness has improved dramatically. It is a natural and beautiful upgrade board with a difference. The big difference is the extension of the treble. “LOOK AHEAD” and other pre-existing releases may have gone through digital compression somewhere in the distribution process, and the high notes had a crispness like mp3. However, the master used this time does not have that distortion. It is a natural master that stretches beautifully without cutting the treble. Of course, this work is finely mastered by “GRAF ZEPPELIN” for its natural sound. As usual, extremely fine pitch and phase shifts are also corrected, and it is pressed with the highest peak sound arranged for each band.
With such a top-notch sound, Reimei’s full show, which was rapidly growing as a live band, stepped on the number of occasions. This day is the opening act of FOGHAT with JAMES GANG, and the masterpieces are concentrated in the time limit of about 1 hour. Also check the concentration.
● Illusory flight (6 songs)
・Rock & Roll Band/More Than A Feeling/Peace Of Mind/Something About You/Smokin’/Foreplay/Long Time
● Others (3 songs)
・Shattered Images (Help Me) / Television Politician / Don’t Be Afraid
… and it looks like this. All songs other than “Hitch A Ride” and “Let Me Take You Home Tonight” from the daimyo board “Genso Hikou” were performed, and the precious songs “Shattered Images (Help Me)” and “Television Politician” not included in the album are also delicious. And above all, the skill of the performance is rising. In “CLEVELAND 1976”, I felt the firmness of focusing on reproducing the world of the album, but in this work, the confidence of more than 50 performances is firmly rooted, and the dynamism unique to live performances is born.
As a matter of fact, this work has the fewest number of songs in the initial sound board trilogy, but on the other hand it is the first upgrade. It will be one that feels fresh as much as you are familiar with it. From Tom Scholz’s recording project to a live unit. A super masterpiece of a sound board album that pours the rapidly evolving live performance of BOSTON directly into your brain. Please enjoy it thoroughly with a permanent preservation press CD.

REMASTERED BY GRAF ZEPPELIN
(remastered memo)
★Remastered with different branches and leaves from the original.
★The original material has a better natural texture than the original, so in order to make the most of it, the EQ processing does not increase the sound pressure, and is mostly limited to adjusting the volume and correcting the phase.

★ Stereo sound board recording of “December 18, 1976 Philadelphia Performance”. It’s a direct-to-desk soundboard with a bare core, and the vibe of the instrument is vacuum-packed without processing. Moreover, this work is the highest peak update board. “GRAF ZEPPELIN” meticulously masters a natural master that does not have a high-pitched crispness like the previous release. The precious songs “Shattered Images (Help Me)” and “Television Politician” are also new masterpieces where delicious full shows are poured into the brain.
