Bob Dylan’s 1988 live from Mike Millard Tape’s “Legendary” series. Speaking of 1988, the year when the “Never Ending Tour” started, which fans know. This sound source captures the first year of the great tour that continues as the tour name suggests. The first bandmaster is GE Smith, who will organize the 1993 Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Festival. A guitarist famous for his work at Daryl Hall & John Oates. Band formation around this time can enjoy extremely simple solid rock. It is regrettable that the final encore “From the Watch Tower” is missing, but the relatively rare “Masters of War” is being played. I wish I could do this song on my current tour.
In recent years, “Mike Millard Tape” has been digitized directly from the master or low generation tape. This tape was recorded by Mike Millard, a taper familiar to fans with his outstanding technique of audience recording. The label has also released multiple sound sources based on this newly digitized Mike Millard tape, two of which are “Brushed Mike Millard Tape” and “Legendary Mike Millard Tape”. There is a pattern. Not all Mike Millard tapes have perfect sound quality, and some have a lot of room for improvement, and the “Brushed” series has been significantly improved. Originally, it is almost perfect and there is not much room for improvement in sound quality, and the “Legendary” series is the one that has been kept to a minimum such as light editing between songs.
マイク・ミラード・テープの“レジェンダリー”シリーズからボブ・ディランの1988年ライヴが登場です。1988年と言えばファンならご存じ“ネヴァー・エンディング・ツアー”が始まった年。この音源はツアー名通り今なお続く偉大なるツアーの初年を捉えているのです。初代バンド・マスターはこの後1993年のボブ・ディラン30周年記念フェスを取りまとめるG・E・スミス。ダリル・ホール＆ジョン・オーツでの活躍が有名なギタリストです。この頃のバンド編成は極めてシンプルなソリッド・ロックが楽しめます。最終アンコールの『見張り塔からずっと』が欠けている点が悔やまれますが、比較的レアな『戦争の親玉』が演奏されています。この曲、今のツアーでもやれば良いのにね。
近年マスター直、或いはロウ・ジェネレーションのテープからのデジタル化が進んでいる“マイク・ミラード・テープ”。オーディエンス録音の卓越した技術でファンにはお馴染みのテーパー、マイク・ミラード氏により録音されたテープです。同レーベルからもこの新デジタル化のマイク・ミラード・テープをマスターにした音源が複数リリースされており、“ブラッシュド・マイク・ミラード・テープ”と“レジェンダリー・マイク・ミラード・テープ”の二つのパターンがあります。マイク・ミラード・テープも全てが完璧な音質なわけではなく、中にはかなり手を加えて改良の余地があるものもあり、大幅に手を加えて改良されたものが“ブラッシュド”シリーズ。元々完璧に近く音質改良の余地があまり無く、曲間等の軽い編集など最低限にとどめてあるものが“レジェンダリー”シリーズとなっています。
