This time, the final day of Dylan’s 1984 European tour will be released on the shocking full version sound board, but we will also release the superb audience recording on the first day of the tour, which will be paired with it.
The European tour in 1984 kicked off at the historic Arena di Verona in Italy. The tour is originally planned on the premise that it will only go around large venues of the stadium class.
However, Dylan did not try to demonstrate his usual whirlwind and elaborate rehearsals, and even after arriving in Italy, he still repeated the previous rehearsals. As a result, I ended up going up to the stage on the first day with my repertoire half-baked.
First of all, as you can see from the set list, the composition itself is completely undecided. To add to that, the arrangement of the songs had not been decided, and most of the songs started with Dylan’s song (by his cue) without an intro (!).
From the perspective of band members such as Mick Taylor and Ian McLagan, this would be the equivalent of a sudden performance.
Despite this, Dylan himself was full of motivation when he took the stage, and the gap between the strength of singing every song with high tension and the band’s turmoil that could not be hidden was vivid. Did Dylan hate practicing so much? (laughs)
Even so, the band did their best in the first half of the live, but from around “Man Of Peace” things started to get cloudy, and finally “Heart Of Mine” was a mess and had to start over. Here Dylan is re-singing while conducting himself, and it is no longer a public rehearsal state.
Ironically, this is the first time that the Italian audience has seen Bob Dylan, and they are very enthusiastic without worrying about such rough performances. In the middle of the live where Dylan sings and sings a wonderful song, the topic word “Bravo!”
This is the audience recording that captures the first day full of such tsukkomi, but this is also the best sound quality. While realistically capturing the lively presence that seems to be live in Italy, the performance is captured more vividly than that.
Not only the band performance, but even Dylan’s solo singing corner was captured with a surprisingly large sound image, and the quality so far is an audience recording that even beginners can enjoy with confidence.
Unfortunately, the main release this time was the full version of the sound board Slaine, so this sound source, which is not strange even if it was originally released as a press CD, will be released on CD-R, but this sound quality is really wonderful. It seems that there are many enthusiasts who remember the LP “THE JOKERMAN PLAYS IN THE ARENA” which was a rear tie release, but the stereo superb quality that keeps it away.
And if you continue to listen to “THE ESSENTIAL 1984 TOUR REHEARSALS”, which is still on sale now, you will definitely realize how much this day was a sudden departure. The first day of the tour can be enjoyed as the ultimate audience document, where Dylan is in excellent condition even though the performance is rickety, and the sound quality is also the best. In the first place, this is the first release in CD format, Bravo! smile
今回はディラン1984年ヨーロッパ・ツアーの最終日が衝撃の完全版サウンドボードにてリリースされる訳ですが、それと見事に対をなすツアー初日の極上オーディエンス録音も同時にリリースいたします。
84年ヨーロッパ・ツアーの幕を開けたのはイタリアの由緒ある闘技場アレーナ・ディ・ヴェローナ。同ツアーは元々スタジアム・クラスの大会場ばかりを回ることを前提に企画されています。
ところがディランはいつものつむじまがりを発揮して念入りなリハーサルをしようとせず、イタリアに到着してもまだ直前のリハーサルを繰り返すという有様。結果としてレパートリー生煮え状態のまま初日のステージに上がる羽目になってしまいました。
まずセットリストを見てもらえば解るように、構成自体がまるで決まっていない。そこに輪をかけて楽曲のアレンジが決まっておらず、ほとんどの曲がイントロなしでディランの歌（つまり彼の合図によって）から演奏が始まるときた（！）。
これはミック・テイラーやイアン・マクレガンといったバンドメンバーからするとぶっつけ本番に等しい状態でしょう。
にもかかわらずディラン自身はやる気満々でステージに上がっており、どの曲もハイテンションに歌い上げる力強さと動揺を隠しきれないバンドのギャップが生々しいほど。そんなにディランは練習が嫌だったのか（笑）。
それでもライブ前半はバンドも頑張ってやり過ごしていたのですが、これが「Man Of Peace」辺りから一気に雲行きが怪しくなり、遂に「Heart Of Mine」でグダグダとなってやり直しの憂き目に。ここでディランが自ら指揮をとりながら歌い直しており、もはや公開リハーサル状態。
皮肉なことにイタリアのオーディエンスがボブ・ディランを目の当たりにするのはこれが初めてであり、そんな荒くれ演奏にも気をかけることもなく大いに熱狂。ディランが弾き語りで素晴らしい歌を聞かせるライブ中盤に至っては今、日本で話題のワード「ブラボー！」が飛び交うほど。
そんなツッコミどころ満載の初日を捉えた今回のオーディエンス録音ですが、これがまた最高の音質なのです。いかにもイタリアのライブらしい賑やかな臨場感をリアルに捉えつつも、それ以上に演奏が大きく生々しく捉えられている。
バンド演奏はもちろん、ディラン一人の弾き語りコーナーですらびっくりするほど大きな音像で捉えられており、ここまでのクオリティであれば初心者でも安心して楽しめるほどのオーディエンス録音。
あいにく今回のメイン・リリースがサウンドボード完全版のスレインであったことから、本来であればプレスCDリリースされてもおかしくない本音源がCD-Rでのリリースとなってしまいますが、この音質は本当に素晴らしい。リアタイ・リリースだったLP「THE JOKERMAN PLAYS IN THE ARENA」を覚えておられるマニアも多いかと思われますが、それをまるで寄せ付けないステレオ極上クオリティ。
そして現在も好評発売中である「THE ESSENTIAL 1984 TOUR REHEARSALS」と続けて聞けば、この日がいかに見切り発車であったことを痛感させられること間違いなし。それと同時に、よくここからスレインの完成度まで到達したものだ…と感心させられるのも確かですので、是非「SLANE 1984 SOUNDBOARD」とセットでお買い求めされることをおすすめします。
演奏はガタガタなのにディランは絶好調、それでいて音質も最高という究極のオーディエンス・ドキュメントにして最高に楽しめるツアー初日。そもそもCDフォーマットでは今回が初リリース、ブラボー！笑
