A storm of great success and praise without complaint, this time Bob Dylan’s performance in Japan that cleared up the chagrin of three years ago when he was forced to cancel due to Corona. The secret is a cover song that suddenly started from the schedule in Tokyo, and a selection related to the Grateful Dead. From the Tokyo performance, items from UXBRIDGE that make use of the unique mobility of CD-R have already been released. First of all, “TOKYO 2023 1ST NIGHT”, which can be said to be the calm before the storm, and “TOKYO 2023 3RD NIGHT”, which features the surprising cover of “Brokedown Palace” from Dead’s masterpiece “AMERICAN BEAUTY”, are now on sale.
And this week, it’s literally a hit. A superb audience on a limited press CD will be released!
In the first place, since we performed Dead’s “Truckin'” on the second day of the Tokyo performance, this performance in Japan has become the center of attention not only for us, but on a global scale. Tanano is an exclusive audience master who captured the fourth day in Tokyo. Speaking of this tour, the property inspection that attracted a lot of attention was successful (bitter smile), and it has become a rare situation in recent years that the sound source surprisingly does not appear on the Internet. Therefore, it was only a feat that two titles were released from UXBRIDGE in haste, but it was a tour that was so well received. It’s natural to want to be a maniac.
Fortunately, the sound source provided by Taper, who recorded the stage on the fourth day in Tokyo despite the harsh environment, was absolutely perfect. For example, from last year’s European tour, a number of wonderful quality audience albums were introduced through UXBRIDGE, but every time they appeared, a maniac said, “This sound is not a press CD …” It is a fact that I was taken. In other words, the tour activity was resumed due to the corona wreck, and Dylan was performing a wonderful stage every night, but there was no press item … It can be said that the press release from the latest tour before this performance in Japan is an urgent matter. That was about it.
If I were to compare the splendor of this exclusive sound source, it would be a quality comparable to the European tour items released by UXBRIDGE last year. Not to mention the closeness of the entire sound image, the closeness of Dylan’s singing voice. Not only that, the details of the entire performance are also really wonderful, and you can clearly hear the bass Tony Garnier’s “To Be Alone With You” using a wood base, as well as the “Mother of Muses” that played it with a bow. For example, you can guess how high-quality the sound source provided this time is.
And speaking of the fourth day in Tokyo, the cover of “Not Fade Away” that shocked the venue and even the world!
What can I say, although the cover group of Dead until then was also a pleasant surprise, on the other hand it is a fact that it was never a well-known song. Certainly the Dead also picked up “Not Fade Away”, but it’s not only a rock’n’roll standard covered by various artists, but above all, Dylan himself played it at the end of a live show almost every night around 1999. It is also a song that was used. Still, the impact of the sudden performance on this day was really tremendous just because the show in Japan did not come true.
Even in the sound source this time, from the intro, it might be that the “Eh, Not Fade Away?” In fact, the excitement at this time was appropriate for Saturday’s show, so I think it will be hot to hear from those who participated on the day. On the other hand, I haven’t picked up any harsh screams, so this is a level that can be said to be a miracle.

文句なしに大成功＆賞賛の嵐、コロナのせいで中止に追い込まれた三年前の無念を見事に晴らした今回のボブ・ディラン来日公演。その秘訣は何と言っても東京の日程から突如として始まったカバー曲、それもグレイトフル・デッド絡みのセレクト。そんな東京公演からは既にCD-Rならではの機動力を活かしたUXBRIDGEからのアイテムがリリース済み。まずは嵐の前の静けさといえた『TOKYO 2023 1ST NIGHT』、さらにデッドの名盤『AMERICAN BEAUTY』から驚きのカバー「Brokedown Palace」が披露された『TOKYO 2023 3RD NIGHT』が大好評リリース中。
そして今週は文字どおりの真打登場。限定プレスCDでの極上オーディエンスがリリースされるのです！
そもそも東京公演二日目にデッドの「Truckin’」を披露してからというもの、今回の日本公演が我々だけでなく世界規模で注目の的になった訳ですが、プレスCDリリースの栄誉に授かったのは東京四日目を捉えてくれた独占入手のオーディエンス・マスター。それに今回のツアーと言えば話題を呼んだ持ち物検査が功を奏し（苦笑）、ネット上にも驚くほど音源が現れないという近年まれに見る状況と化してしまいました。それ故にUXBRIDGEから二タイトルも速攻でリリースされたことは快挙でしかなかった訳ですが、あれほど好評を博したツアーです、やはりプレスCDに足る極上音源を聞いてみたくなる、手元に置いておきたくなるのはマニアでなくとも当然かと。
幸いにも、先のような厳しい環境にもめげず東京四日目のステージを録音してくれたテーパーが提供してくれた音源は正に完璧。例えば昨年のヨーロッパ・ツアーからはUXBRIDGEを通して素晴らしいクオリティのオーディエンス・アルバムがいくつも紹介されましたが、それらが登場する度に「これほどの音がプレスCDでないとは…」という声がマニアから寄せられたのは事実。つまりコロナ禍でツアー活動を再開させ、なおかつ毎晩で素晴らしいステージをディランが繰り広げていたのに、プレスのアイテムが無いとは…今回の日本公演以前に最新ツアーからのプレス・リリースは急務といっていいほどだったのです。
そんな今回の独占入手音源の素晴らしさを例えるとすれば、正に昨年UXBRIDGEからリリースされていたヨーロッパ・ツアーのアイテム群に比肩しうるクオリティ。音像全体の近さは言うまでもなく、何と言ってもディランの歌声の近さ。それだけではありません、演奏全体のディティールも実に素晴らしく、ベースのトニー・ガーニエがウッドベースを用いた「To Be Alone With You」はもちろん、それを弓弾きした「Mother of Muses」の調べもクッキリと聞き分けられるのだと例えれば、今回提供された音源がどれほど高音質であるかを察してもらえるかと。
そして東京四日目と言えば当日の会場を、さらには世界中をアッと言わせた「Not Fade Away」のカバー！
こう言っては何ですが、それまでのデッドのカバー群も嬉しい驚きではあったものの、一方で決して知名度が高い曲と言えなかったのは事実。確かにデッドも「Not Fade Away」を取り上げていましたが、さまざまなアーティストによってカバーされたロックンロール・スタンダードというだけでなく、何よりディラン自身が1999年頃には毎晩のようにライブの締めくくりで演奏していた曲でもある。それでいて日本での披露が叶わなかっただけに、この日の突如の演奏のインパクトは本当に凄まじいものがあった。
今回の音源でもイントロからもしかして「えっ、Not Fade Away？」的なざわつきの臨場感を見事に捉えてくれており、演奏が終わった後の盛り上がりも嫌味のないバランスで伝えてくれるときた。実際この時の盛り上がりは土曜日のショーに相応しい盛り上がりでしたので、当日参戦された方など聞いていてアツくなれるのでは。かといって耳障りな叫びなど一切拾っていないのだから、これはもう奇跡と言っていいレベル。
これほどまでの極上オーディエンス録音であれば、余計な小細工など一切必要としておらず、そのイコライズ感のないマイルドな味わいも絶品。掛け値なしにプレスCDが似合う独占入手の極上オーディエンスでお届けする「Not Fade Away」の日！
