And the best thing is the performance itself. This is already the No. 1 tour performance. It is known that Tony Martin’s condition is not good throughout the tour in 1994, but it finally demodulated with this work that came to the final stage. 【まるでサウンドボードなツアーNo.1録音】
これが1994年のBLACK SABBATH。ビル・ワードが復帰した南米プロショット群をご記憶の方もいらっしゃるかも知れますねが、それはツアー本編が終わってから舞い込んできた特別公演。それ以前はアルバムと同じくボビー・ロンディネリがスツールに座っていました。本作のヴェッティンゲン公演は、そんなツアー本編の終盤「欧州レッグ」の最終日。また、公式映像『CROSS PURPOSES LIVE』も同じ「欧州」レッグで、本作はその６週間後にあたるコンサートでした。もう気づきの方もいらっしゃるかも知れませんが、このショウは『BEHIND THOSE EYES: ZURICH 1994（Shades 112）』としてもお馴染みですが、本作はそのアップグレード盤。新発掘の大元マスターからダイレクトにデジタル化された究極ジェネ・バージョンなのです。
『BEHIND THOSE EYES: ZURICH 1994』には欠けていたアンコールも完全収録しているのですが、それ以上なのが「超」付きの極上サウンド。言い出しておいて何ですが、もはや『BEHIND THOSE EYES: ZURICH 1994』は忘れて頂きたいほど完全に別物。クリスタル・クリアに透き通った空気感の中を距離感ゼロな極太の芯が突進してくる。それに伴ってディテールも細やかなら各楽器のセパレート感も絶大。実際に公式サウンドボードが存在するツアーではありますが、それでもやはり「まるでサウンドボード」と呼ぶしかないのです。
しかも、本作は細心マスタリングで磨き込んだ最高峰更新盤。大元マスターの時点ですでにクリアさは究極レベルでしたが、本作はさらにダイナミズムを強化。芯はさらにパワフルでぶ厚く、それでいてこもりや濁りのない美しさも揺るがない。「まるでサウンドボード」から「まるでオフィシャル」に格上げされたような超絶サウンドなのです。
【サウンドボード／公式プロショットと並ぶ３大名盤】
いかに超極上サウンドではあっても、それだけでは正真正銘の公式サウンドボードに近づけても並ぶことは出来ません。ところが、本作は間違いなく一線に並ぶ「３大名作」。その高みに立つ要因は、ショウ内容自体も強烈だからです。まずは、セットから見ていきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。基本的には『CROSS PURPOSES LIVE』に準じるのですが、そこで聴けない「Children Of The Sea」「When Death Calls」が美味しい。特に「When Death Calls」はサウンドボード名盤『DEFINITIVE NEW BRITAIN 1994』にもない。つまり「CROSS PURPOSES LIVE＋DEFINITIVE NEW BRITAIN 1994＋本作」の３部作が揃うことで、初めて「CROSS PURPOSES Tourの全曲」を最高峰サウンドで楽しめるわけです。
そして、極めつけなのが演奏そのもの。これがもう、ツアーNo.1となる大熱演なのです。1994年はツアーを通してトニー・マーティンの調子が芳しくない事で知られますが、最終盤まで来た本作でやっと復調。さすがに「まるでTHE ETERNAL IDOLのような高音！」とまで言ったらホラ吹きかも知れませんが、ツアー中ずっと悩まされてきた掠れや荒れが治まり、静かな囁き声は繊細に、パワフルなシンガロングは力強く轟く。ややフェイクしつつも、難曲「When Death Calls」を復活させられた事実自体が調子の良さを物語っているのです。
まさしく『CROSS PURPOSES LIVE』『DEFINITIVE NEW BRITAIN 1994』と並ぶ「３大名作」。サウンド・クオリティでも、セットリストでも３大頂点であり、演奏面では抜きんでた新名盤です。サウンドボード／プロショットで“CROSS PURPOSES Tour”を侮っている方にこそ聞いて頂きたいですし、本作を聴いても「こんなものか」となったら、もう追究する必要はない。それほどまでの決定的な新名盤。どうぞ、存分にお楽しみください！
