Excavation circumstances in the era of “BORN AGAIN”, which is exciting as it celebrates its 40th anniversary. The upgrade / grade board of the symbolic sound board that will be the ultimate is born! A press CD that permanently preserves the sound that far exceeds the official version will be urgently released!!
This work was recorded at the “August 27, 1983 Reading Festival” performance. This is a stereo soundboard recording when I performed at a traditional British festival. This show has been broadcast on the BBC’s famous program “Friday Rock Show”, and is a big staple of the Guillain era that has produced a number of existing groups. In 2011, the deluxe edition of “BORN AGAIN” was also made official, and the role of the bootleg was over … it was supposed to be. However, the new master unearthed this time has transcended the official version. The highest peak update board that reached a height that even the official did not reach was born!
Before the quality that bothers me, first of all is the position of the show. Speaking of the Guillain era soundboard, our shop’s masterpiece “CAPTURED LIVE 1983: PRE-FM MASTER (Zodiac 489)” and the recently released “DEFINITIVE PARIS 1983 SOUNDBOARD (Zodiac 601)” are also very popular. Let’s check the positional relationship of each sound board trilogy in light of the schedule at that time.

This is the full view of his activities during the Guillain era. While “DEFINITIVE PARIS 1983” was “Europe # 2” and “CAPTURED LIVE 1983” was “North America # 1”, the Reading Festival appearance of this work is even earlier “Europe # 1”. The sound board trilogy can hold each leg in 1983 (no sound board has been discovered from “North America # 2” in 1984).
Now, this work, which will be the new champion of such a classic sound board, exceeds the official version in both length and sound. First, length. The number of songs played is 8, which is the same as the official version, but this work has been recorded for 50 minutes and 36 seconds, while the official version was 48 minutes. There is also an additional recording of the program intro / outro of the famous DJ Tommy Vance, and the total length exceeds 52 minutes.
“This alone is definitely worse than the official one, but the sound is even worse.” If you have the deluxe edition of “BORN AGAIN” here, please play “Black Sabbath” for a moment. At 6:04 you’ll notice some skipping noise. The same noise was generated depending on the thing that had already been released in the past, but this work does not have this.
Don’t get me wrong here, this noise problem is nothing more than “easy-to-understand evidence”. The important thing is the sound quality itself that penetrates the whole story, and this is already amazing. Clearly better than the official version, much more dynamic. Not to mention the guitar riffs that bark with plenty of metal, the bass line that was slightly off is also clear. And above all Guillain’s vocals. On this day, it is also known for its high-tension performance at the famous festival “New Sabbath unveiling”, but the shout is sharp and straight and stretches beautifully. After the reunion DEEP PURPLE, the fear of the shout that could not be recovered was fully open. The Sabbath era may have been the last heyday for Guillain … The chorus driven by such thoughts roars with a glaring sound.

There are four types of BLACK SABBATH soundboards in the Guillain era, complete with our trilogy (CAPTURED LIVE 1983 / DEFINITIVE PARIS 1983, and this work). Speaking of the best masterpiece among them, I can’t help but mention “CAPTURED LIVE 1983” where you can listen to “Children Of The Grave” and “Heaven And Hell”, but if you say it with a powerful glaring sound and explosive tension This work will be the top.

そんな本作が記録されたのは「1983年８月27日レディング・フェスティバル」公演。伝統の英国フェスにトリ出演した際のステレオ・サウンドボード録音です。このショウはBBCの名物番組“Friday Rock Show”で放送去れ、数々の既発群を生み出して来たギラン時代の大定番。2011年には『BORN AGAIN』のデラックス・エディションで公式化も実現し、ブートレッグの役目は終わった……はずでした。しかし、この度発掘された新マスターは、公式バージョンを超越してしまった。オフィシャルさえも届かぬ高みに達した最高峰更新盤が誕生したのです！
その気になるクオリティの前に、まずはショウのポジション。ギラン時代のサウンドボードと言えば、当店が誇る最高傑作『CAPTURED LIVE 1983: PRE-FM MASTER（Zodiac 489）』や先日リリースされた『DEFINITIVE PARIS 1983 SOUNDBOARD（Zodiac 601）』も大好評。当時のスケジュールに照らしつつ、サウンドボード三部作それぞれの位置関係をチェックしてみましょう。

これがギラン時代の活動全景。『DEFINITIVE PARIS 1983』が「欧州#2」、『CAPTURED LIVE 1983』が「北米#1」だったのに対し、本作のレディング・フェス出演はさらに初期の「欧州#1」。サウンドボード三部作で1983年の各レッグを押さえられるわけです（1984年の「北米#2」からはサウンドボードが一切発見されていません）。
さて、そんな大定番サウンドボードの新王者となる本作は、長さでもサウンドでも公式版を超えている。まず、長さ。演奏曲数自体は公式版と同じ８曲ではありますが、公式が48分だったのに対し、本作は50分36秒収録されている。そこにさらに名物DJトミー・ヴァンスの番組イントロ／アウトロも追加収録されており、全長で52分を超えるのです。
これだけでもオフィシャルよりエライのは確定ですが、サウンドはもっとエライ。ここで『BORN AGAIN』のデラックス・エディションをお持ちの方は、ちょっと「Black Sabbath」を再生してみてください。「6:04」で音飛びのようなノイズにお気づきになるでしょう。従来の既発にも物によっては同じノイズが発生していたのですが、本作にはコレがないのです。
ここでカン違いしないで頂きたいのは、このノイズ問題は単なる「分かりやすい証拠」に過ぎない。重要なのは全編を貫く音質そのものであり、これがもうスゴいのなんの。公式版より明らかにヌケが良く、遙かにダイナミック。金属感たっぷりに吠えるギター・リフはもちろん、オフ気味だったベースのラインもくっきり。そして何よりギランのヴォーカル。この日は有名フェスでの「新生サバスお披露目」でハイテンションな名演でも知られるのですが、そのシャウトが鋭くも真っ直ぐ綺麗に伸びまくる。再結成DEEP PURPLE以降は今ひとつ取り戻せなかったシャウトの凄みが全開。サバス時代はギランにとって最後の全盛だったのかも知れない……そんな想いにさえ駆られる絶唱がギラギラ・サウンドで轟くのです。

ギラン時代BLACK SABBATHのサウンドボードは全４種であり、当店の３部作（CAPTURED LIVE 1983／DEFINITIVE PARIS 1983、それに本作）でコンプリートです。その中で最高傑作と言えば、「Children Of The Grave」「Heaven And Hell」まで聴ける『CAPTURED LIVE 1983』を挙げざるを得ませんが、ド迫力のギラギラ・サウンドと爆テンションの名演で言ったら本作こそが頂点になるでしょう。
サバス史……英国HR/HMの歴史上でも類い希なるインパクトと魅力を放った「ギラン時代BLACK SABBATH」。その象徴サウンドボードにして、まさかのオフィシャル超えを果たした１枚。『BORN AGAIN』40周年を記念するのにこれ以上ない絶対盤、永久保存プレスCDで堂々の誕生です！
