“SGT. PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND”, which has long been called “Beatles’ masterpiece” or “a masterpiece representing the 60’s”, has become popular since the beginning of the 21st century, “REVOLVER” and the White Album. I can’t deny the feeling of being pushed by “THE BEATLES”. Still, it is a masterpiece full of charm that they stopped concert activities and immersed themselves in recording, and it is a piece that maniacs have continued to explore to hear as high sound quality as possible.
If you used to listen to “SGT. PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND” (hereinafter referred to as “Sargent”) with high sound quality! It was the Mobile Fidelity Ultra Box that was touted, but there’s been a big shift in the past decade. First of all, the German edition Gold Parophone (hence the popular name “Gold Paro”), which has high sound quality and is relatively easy to obtain, has become a single piece that “starts with this”, and a high-class item for advanced players. “Sargent” by Nimbus Press.
The reason why this mega rare version of “Sargent” LP was created is that in 1984, British audio magazines “PRACTICAL HI-FI” and “HI-FI TODAY” released a masterpiece with the highest technology at the time. Nimbus Records, a small but highly skilled label, made full use of its own technology called “Supercut” and high-quality vinyl to achieve a high-quality press, and on top of that, it was limited to 1000 copies (as an added bonus for readers). mail order only) was released. One of them was “Sargent”.
In this way, it was a rare item from the beginning, and speaking of 1984 when it was released, it was the time when Mobile Fidelity’s Beatles LP began to be popular, and it was a limited release. At the time, the Nimbus Press received little attention. Rather, it was more than 20 years after its release that Nimbus’ “Sargent” began to attract attention. Records that didn’t get a lot of attention when they first came out tend to appreciate in value over time, and Nimbus Press is a prime example.
Unfortunately, not only was the number of presses small, but as soon as it was discovered that “Sargent” had been recorded with unprecedented high-quality sound, the Nimbus press surged in popularity and prices skyrocketed. . Now, there are more than 800 WANTs on Discogs, and at the time of writing this, the market price in Japan is 250,000 (at one point it reached 300,000), so it’s a very easy item to get your hands on. do not have.
With the rise of such items, the Beatles’ Mobile Fidelity discs have become less popular than before, and it is true that although they have high sound quality, they lack vividness and tend to be too organized. Rather, the popularity of UK originals and Nimbus is on the rise.
The Nimbus Press is certainly a mega rare existence. However, if you can hear “Sergeant” with the highest sound quality, it is natural that everyone will want to touch it. However, it is not easy to get … This revolutionary release will lower the drinking of such maniacs. This Nimbus Press super mint condition board was provided by an overseas maniac, and the transfer was carried out with great care. First of all, I recorded from a board that carefully selected the condition, so I succeeded in making an extremely clean CD at the level before removing unnecessary noise. not.
The Nimbus Press, which could be called the Holy Grail sealed in a CD in a state that could be called a god transfer…it’s an unbelievably wonderful sound. The more you listen to it, the more the sound is different from the 2009 remaster. If you were the one who restored the old paintings and brought them back to their former luster, then Nimbus was the painting itself that had just been painted. Or if remastering is “organized and beautiful sound”, Nimbus is “real and vivid sound”.
Unlike “ABBEY ROAD”, which had greatly evolved from the original recording technology, “Sargent” is an album that packs as much sound as possible into 4 tracks. Therefore, there is a tendency that the sound tends to be muddy due to the difference between pressing and remastering. On the other hand, the Nimbus is natural, yet it has both the clearness and the spread of sound that makes you feel as if you have opened your eyes. This overwhelming sound resolution is a level that easily surpasses Mobil’s Ultra Box.
For example, on “Getting Better”, the sound of each instrument is really natural, and you can hear the sound from every corner. In that respect, the remastered board is organized and easy to listen to, but it does not have the freshness and clearness of Nimbus. Indeed, since such a high-quality “Sargent” was released for a limited time, it is natural that it is popular.
I don’t know what to say, but even if I was lucky enough to get my hands on the Oomoto Nimbus Press LP, would I be able to appreciate it as clearly as the version contained in this CD? It was a much more modern release than the original UK edition, but still nearly 30 years have passed. Under such circumstances, it is extremely difficult to obtain a Nimbus press that can be played in an extremely clean state.
For example, if the performance is delicate and quiet like “Within You Without You”, scratch noise is inevitable. However, in this God transfer, there is no such noise at all, and you can clearly hear George’s count in the song. In addition, there is no deterioration of the circumference at the end of each surface. Also, at the time of this release, the loop of “Inner Groove”, which was not recorded on Nimbus, was additionally recorded from the UK original LP, and we have taken all possible measures in terms of content. The ultimate CD version that you can easily enjoy the mega rare Nimbus Press “Sargent” in this extremely clean state. Please enjoy the explosion!
* Directly transferred from the extremely rare UK edition “Nimbus Supercut”, which was released in 1984 by mail order for readers of the audio magazines “Practical Hi-Fi” and “Hi-Fi Today” for the UK domestic market. The Nimbus Supercut board is legendary among audiophiles as a high-quality sound board that exceeds Mobile Fidelity. It has been digitized from an LP in extremely good condition that is owned by an overseas maniac.
