ANVIL in 1983 made his first solo visit to Japan prior to the “SUPER ROCK ’84”. A valuable video that allows you to witness the full show is a gift release decision.
This work was shot on “September 21, 1983: Nakano Sunplaza performance”. It is the superb view audience shot. The movie “Anvil! In “Men who can’t give up their dreams”, it was said that “SUPER ROCK ’84 came to Japan for the first time”, but the real first landing in Japan was in 1883, a year ago. And the performances in Japan that were realized in the 1980s were only twice. We also handle records of “SUPER ROCK ’84”, so let’s organize the schedule for two visits to Japan this time.

Above, a total of 11 performances twice. In “SUPER ROCK ’84”, in addition to the official pro shots (for 2 songs), “TOKYO FIRST DAY (Calm & Storm 015)” which completely recorded all 5 groups and the coupling with BON JOVI “IN JAPAN: NAGOYA (Zodiac)” There are live albums such as “472)”, but in any case it was a short set for the opening act. On the other hand, in 1983, he came to Japan alone. A full set of about 90 minutes was unfolding.
The quality of this work, which was shot at such a precious site, is not average. The double punch of the superb view angle and super beautiful master is also a strong and superb image. First, a superb view. The shooting position seems to be the stand seat on the 2nd floor, but there is no shield because it is in the front row. It’s an all-you-can-eat superb view that holds the highlights from end to end of the stage. Moreover, the zoom approaching from there is also amazing. At most, Steve Kudlow’s whole body fills the screen, but the sense of stability is tremendous. I don’t think I’m using a tripod, but I don’t think it’s freehand. It’s a complete guess, but maybe the handrail in the front seat is used as a tripod, even if you shake the camera left and right with the maximum zoom, camera shake does not occur, and you can freely upload the whole view and each member.
And master freshness. Again, I’m sorry to guess, but it’s probably digitized directly from the Omoto Master. There are no dubbing marks that seem to be so, and there is no aging deterioration due to regeneration. I forgot the existence while shooting only for the minor band, and when I tried to play the VHS that I happened to find, it was superb … I’m sorry for all the delusions, but the quality itself seems to talk about such a situation. It can’t be helped.
And the full show drawn with such visual beauty is powerful. Above all, a huge number of songs. Here, let’s organize it by comparing it with “SUPER ROCK ’84” of the next year.

かの“SUPER ROCK ’84”に先駆けて単独初来日を果たした1983年のANVIL。そのフルショウを目撃できる貴重映像がギフト・リリース決定です。
そんな本作が撮影されたのは「1983年９月21日：中野サンプラザ公演」。その絶景オーディエンス・ショットです。映画『アンヴィル！夢を諦めきれない男たち』では「SUPER ROCK ’84が初来日」と語られていましたが、本当の日本初上陸は１年前の1883年でした。そして、80年代に実現した来日公演は二度だけ。当店では“SUPER ROCK ’84”の記録も扱っておりますので、今回は来日２回分の日程をまとめて整理してみましょう。

以上、２回合計で全11公演。“SUPER ROCK ’84”では公式プロショット（２曲分）の他、全５組を完全収録した『TOKYO FIRST DAY（Calm & Storm 015）』やBON JOVIとのカップリング『IN JAPAN: NAGOYA（Zodiac 472）』といったライヴアルバムもありますが、いずれにしてもオープニング・アクトのためにショート・セットでした。それに対して1983年は堂々の単独来日。約90分のフルセットが繰り広げられていたのです。
そんな貴重な現場で撮影された本作は、クオリティも並ではない。超絶景アングル＆超美麗マスターのダブル・パンチも強烈な極上映像なのです。まず、絶景。撮影ポジションは２階スタンド席のようですが、最前列なのか遮蔽物が皆無。ステージの端から端まで見どころを押さえ放題の超・絶景なのです。しかも、そこから迫るズームも凄い。最大でスティーヴ・クドローの全身が画面いっぱいになるほどですが、安定感が絶大。三脚は使っていないと思いますが、フリーハンドでもなさそう。完全に推測ですが、最前席の手すりを三脚代わりにしているのか、最ズームのまま左右にカメラを振っても手ブレが起きず、全景も各メンバーのアップも自由自在なのです。
そして、マスター鮮度。これまた推測で恐縮ですが、恐らくは大元マスターからダイレクトにデジタル化されているのでしょう。そうとしか思えないほどダビング痕がなく、再生による経年劣化も見られない。マイナー・バンドだけに撮影したまま存在を忘れ、たまたま見つけたVHSを再生してみたら超極上だった……妄想ばかりで申し訳ないのですが、クオリティ自体がそんな状況を語っているように見えて仕方ないのです。
そして、そんな映像美で描かれるフルショウこそがド迫力。何よりも膨大な曲数。ここでは翌年の“SUPER ROCK ’84”との比較で整理してみましょう。
