IRON MAIDEN’s new masterpiece “LEIDEN 1990 2ND NIGHT (Zodiac 592)”, which is shocking with its ultra-high sound quality. The ANTHRAX edition, which is its sister work, is now available.
This work is imbued with the same “November 3, 1990 Leiden performance (Netherlands)” as in the IRON MAIDEN edition. It is the transcendental audience recording. The IRON MAIDEN edition is in the midst of shocking the collector world with its official-class sound, and it has been made into a permanent preservation press at our shop (after meticulous mastering). It is exactly a new masterpiece of shock. But the shock didn’t stop there. Taper, who recorded IRON MAIDEN, also recorded ANTHRAX, which acted as the opening act of the day, in succession. In the same way, the transcendental master was released. Of course, the ANTHRAX edition is also super-superb sound, and there can only be rivals, soundboards, and officials. This is the history from the release of “PERSISTENCE OF TIME” to the departure of Joey Belladonna. The Leiden performance of this work is the early stage of the tour about two months after the release of the album. It was a concert that was the 9th performance of “Europe # 1”.
This work, which is a vacuum-packed version of such a show, is as awesome as a sound board. The intensely on core has zero sense of distance, the ultra-fine details are like IEMs, Charlie Benante’s explosive bass drum is super beautiful down to the last drop… If you listen with headphones, you can tell that it is an audience recording because you can hear a small voice far away, but the essential performance sound and vocals have no sense of customer recording. In 1991, the excavation pro shot of the Irvine performance “WON’T GET FOOLED AGAIN” is also familiar, but it is more amazing than the sound board directly connected to the mix desk.
Moreover, this work meticulously masters the transcendental recording with the same processing as IRON MAIDEN. The treble is also improved, and the deep bass that shakes the five organs and kicks up the six viscera is also clear. At the time of the original sound, it exceeded the direct sound board, but this work is a higher official level than that … No, it even transcends the genuine official video “LIVE NOIZE”!
A stage that concentrates the band’s potential of the Golden Age ANTHRAX is depicted with such “Official Transcendence Audience” quality. The riff with a sharp edge, the bass drum that was said to be No. 1 in the scene, and the breathtaking vocals are super beautiful. How was it possible in 1990 to achieve a sound that would be impossible without the power of miracles even with the latest equipment in 2023? I have dealt with countless records of many bands, but it is an incomprehensible transcendental sound even with all the experience. A live album where you can experience the prime ANTHRAX on site with quality that exceeds the official. そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは、IRON MAIDEN篇と同じ「1990年11月３日ライデン公演（オランダ）」。その超絶級オーディエンス録音です。IRON MAIDEN篇はオフィシャル級のサウンドがコレクター界に衝撃を振り撒いている真っ最中で、当店でも（細心マスタリングの上で）永久保存プレス化。まさに衝撃の新名盤となっています。しかし、衝撃はそれだけに留まりませんでした。IRON MAIDENを録音したテーパーは、当日の前座を務めたANTHRAXも連続で録音。同じように超絶マスターを公開したのです。もちろんANTHRAX篇も超極上サウンドで、ライバルやサウンドボードやオフィシャルしかあり得ない。その辺をご紹介するためにも、まずは当時のスケジュールで代表作も押さえておきましょう。

これが『PERSISTENCE OF TIME』リリースからジョーイ・ベラドナ脱退までの歩み。本作のライデン公演はアルバム発売から２ヶ月ほどのツアー初期。「欧州#1」の９公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウを真空パックした本作は「まるでサウンドボード」を地で行く凄まじさ。猛烈にオンな芯は距離感ゼロだわ、超細やかなディテールはIEMsみたいだわ、チャーリー・ベナンテの爆バスドラは一粒一粒まで超絶キレイだわ……。ヘッドフォンで耳を澄ますと遠く遠くに小ーさく話し声が残されているのでオーディエンス録音だと判別できますが、肝心要の演奏音やヴォーカルには客録感がまるでない。翌1991年にはアーバイン公演の発掘プロショット『WON’T GET FOOLED AGAIN』もお馴染みですが、そのミックス卓直結サウンドボードよりも凄いくらいです。
しかも、本作はその超絶録音をIRON MAIDENと同様の処理で細心マスタリング。高音のヌケも向上し、五臓を揺るがし六腑を蹴り上げる重低音もくっきり。原音の時点で卓直結サウンドボードを超えていましたが、本作はそれ以上の公式レベル……いや、正真正銘のオフィシャル映像『LIVE NOIZE』さえも超越しているのです！
そんな「オフィシャル超越オーディエンス」クオリティで画かれるのは、黄金時代ANTHRAXのバンドポテンシャルを濃縮したステージ。IRON MAIDENの前座という事もあって約１時間なのですが、その短い時間にエネルギーを凝縮して叩きつけている。直近の定番作と言えば、先ほど引き合いにも出した流出プロショット『WON’T GET FOOLED AGAIN』が有名ですので、比較しつつセットも整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。レアな「Time」「Belly Of The Beast」も美味しいですが、やはり衝撃なのはとんでもないサウンドです。ギンギンにエッジの立ったリフも、シーンNo.1と言われたバスドラ猛打も、息づかいレベルのヴォーカルも超キレイ。2023年の最新機材でも奇跡の力を借りなければ不可能なサウンドを、どうやって1990年に成し遂げたのか……。幾多のバンドの無数の記録を扱ってきましたが、その全経験を持ってしても理解不能な超絶サウンドです。そのオフィシャル超えクオリティで全盛ANTHRAXを現場体験できるライヴアルバム。IRON MAIDENとセットで当日をフル体験しても良し、本作だけで絶頂のスラッシュ四天王の一角にブチのめされるのも良し。いかようにも必聴な新名盤。ここに堂々の誕生です！
