これが1986年のACCEPT。ウドが脱退したのは1987年になってからですが、ライヴ活動は1986年内に終結していました。秋の日本公演も思い出深いところですが、本作のニューカッスル公演はその半年前となる「英国」ツアー。80年代最後のイギリス公演でもありました。
このショウは、何よりも伝説的な極上録音が残された事で知られている。その伝説録音を記録したのは、かの名手“Crazy S.”氏。本作もその有名音源ではありますが、その大元カセットからダイレクトにデジタル化した究極ジェネ版であり、さらに「GRAF ZEPPELIN」の細密マスタリングで磨き直された最高峰更新盤なのです。
そのサウンドは、まさにツアーNo.1の最高傑作。１曲目「T.V. War」の冒頭でやけに小さな音量だったりしますが、これは録音ミスではなく現場PAエンジニアのミス。もちろん、現場音ですから10秒ほどで異常に気づき、あっと言う間に改善。その後はもう「まるでサウンドボード」と呼ぶに相応しい極上サウンドが広がる。ポイントは「超」付きのタイト感。現場となった“メイフェア・ボールルーム”は1,500人規模の劇場なのですが、そのタイト感はまるで野外録音。ヘッドフォンで耳を澄ませてもホール鳴りが感じられず、音を反射する屋根や壁があると思えないのです。
しかも、距離感もゼロ。演奏音もヴォーカルも輪郭までキリッとしていて滲み濁りが微塵もない。強いて言うなら、スネアの音色がちょっとオーディエンスっぽいような気がする……という次元であり、それこそリハーサルルームに同席しているか、あるいはステージ上でメンバーと一緒に立っているような間近感なのです。
