Jeff Beck in 1999 returned to Japan after a long blank of 10 years. An original recording that conveys the scene is now available.
“May 30, 1999 Osaka Festival Hall performance” is engraved on this work. It is the beautiful audience recording. Speaking of Osaka in 1999, the press masterpiece “ZEPP OSAKA 1999 (Wardour-214)” reigns as a standard at our shop, but of course this work is another performance. In order to understand that area, let’s first organize the collection according to the schedule of visits to Japan for the first time in 10 years.
・ May 23: Tokyo Bay NK Hall
* May 25 “BLAST FROM THE EAST (Kanagawa Prefectural Hall)”
* May 26 “NAGOYA 1999 DAT MASTER”
・May 28: Fukuoka City Hall
* May 29 “ZEPP OSAKA 1999”
* May 30: Osaka Festival Hall ← This work
・May 31: Tokyo International Forum
* June 2 “DEFINITIVE TOKYO 1999 (International Forum)” & TV broadcast
* June 3 “TOKYO 1999 FINAL NIGHT (International Forum)”
*Note: “*” marks are days that can be enjoyed in our collection (only representative works for each performance).
A total of 9 performances. Although it is the day after “ZEPP OSAKA 1999”, the venue is different, and the site of this work is the traditional “Festival Hall”. It was a concert two years before the Tokyo International Forum, where the TV broadcast, which is also a symbol of 1999, was filmed.
This work, which is a vacuum-packed version of such a show, is actually a sister work of “ZEPP OSAKA 1999”. The sound is different because the venue is different, but the recording artist is the same person. Recorded in the 90’s, it is the work of a virtuoso who was whispered as the best in Osaka. In fact, the sound of this work is clear and beautiful. It’s not the type to be mistaken for a sound board, but the air is clear and the details are clear and clear. This tour became a hot topic because Jeff took the Japanese MC for the first time, but in this work, you can clearly hear that “Arigato, bye-bye!”
And what’s more, the sound is ridiculously delicious. After all, the “Festival Hall”, which became the site, is known for its excellent acoustics and is a famous venue that has been praised as “a hall made by God”. The recording that makes the most of that sound has an exquisite luster and thickness in its rugged core, and is ideally compatible with ease of listening and dynamism. It is a recording that is extremely precise from the viewpoint of “how to make the most of the taste of the guest record (and the venue)” rather than “how to record like a sound board”.
With such a beautiful sound, Jeff’s enthusiastic performance comes back after 10 years. The set is the same as “ZEPP OSAKA 1999”, but it is different from the iconic professional shot of the famous Tokyo performance. Finally, let’s organize it while comparing it with the TV broadcast pro shot.
– Who Else! (9 songs)
・What Mama Said/Psycho Sam/Brush With The Blues/Blast From The East/Declan/THX 138/Space For The Papa/Angel (Footsteps)/Even Odds
● Others (10 songs)
・There and Back: Star Cycle/The Pump/You Never Know
・Guitar shop: Savoy/Where Were You (★)/Big Block
・Others: A Day In The Life / Led Boots (★) / ‘Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers / Blue Wind
* Note: “★” marks are songs that cannot be heard in the standard professional shots of the Tokyo performance.
… and it looks like this. In fact, the previous work “ZEPP OSAKA 1999” has a reputation as “the best performance of the tour”, but the momentum of this work, which is the next day, continues. Moreover, it is also known that he was in good shape on this day. This work is also a proof that proves its reputation with sound, and if it is only the second half, it can surpass even the masterpiece “ZEPP OSAKA 1999”. In the intro of “Space for the Papa”, a tape of another song was mistakenly played, and in “Blue Wind” the strings were cut in the middle. You can enjoy uninterrupted enthusiastic performances until “Where Were You” and “Big Block”.
This is an original recording that shines with the virtuoso’s shrewdness proven in the previous work “ZEPP OSAKA 1999”. If the previous work was a club-scale closed room feeling, this work is a beautiful sound that makes use of the sound of “a hall made by God”. Both are masterpiece live albums that Japan is proud of, but they are beautiful sister works that you can enjoy a full show with different sounds. Please enjoy this work, which is a sister work, with press 2CD.
★ Beautiful audience recording of “May 30, 1999 Osaka Festival Hall Performance”. A sister work by the same recording artist as the tour masterpiece “ZEPP OSAKA 1999 (Wardour-214)”, the sound is clear and beautiful. The sound of the festival hall, which is said to be “made by God”, is beautiful, and the guitar has an exquisite luster and thickness, and it is ideally compatible with ease of listening and dynamism. It is a beautiful live album that seems to be the ultimate in “beauty unique to the audience”.
