はい、みなさん、出ましたね。ザヴェル・ジャパン･プレゼンツ、エルトン・ジョンの2015ジャパンツアー完全版、大阪と横浜でおこなわれた2夜限りのスペシャル・ライブを、ショウ開始前のSEから終演までノーカット完全収録した永久保存のプレス4CDです。もちろん音質はおなじみザヴェルが誇るマルチIEMマトリクス音源ですから、両公演ともオフィシャル級のミラクル・サウンドですよ。はっきり言って放送用音源なんかめじゃないんですね。
今回の来日はですね、やはり何といってもひさかたぶりとなるバンドを率いてのライブ、これがまず一つ目の見どころでしたね。おなじみデイヴィー・ジョンストン、素晴らしいギターですね、やはりこの人なくしてエルトンのライヴは成立しない、そう再認識させられる素晴らしい仕事ぶりですよ。そしてもう一人のキーパーソン、ナイジェル･オルソン、たまりませんね。存在感抜群の燻し銀のドラムにはしびれてしまいますね、個人タクシーの運転手さんじゃありませんよ。その他にも腕っこきのベーシストであるマット・ビゾネット、「え！エディ？」と錯覚してしまう魅惑のキーボードプレイヤー・キム・バラード、横浜公演ではエルトンとの熱い絡みも見せてくれたセクシーなパーカッション＆ドラム奏者ジョン・マホンと、役者揃いのバンドは期待に違わぬ鉄壁の演奏を見せてくれましたね。
二つ目の見どころはですね、一体どんな曲を演奏してくれるのか、やはりこれに尽きますね。2015年のエルトンはラス・ヴェガスのシーザーズ・パレスを根城に精力的にライブ展開してきたんですが（インターネットを駆使すればそこでの演奏曲目も見ることが出来るみたいですよ、みなさんも是非試してみてくださいね）、「あばずれさんのお帰り」ではじまるこの2015年の鉄板セットリストで来日公演も固く盛り上げてくれるのかなーと思いきや、いやはや驚きましたね、「葬送～血まみれの恋はおしまい」のメドレーで幕を開けたんですね。会場に詰め掛けた往年のファンの皆様、このオープニングには鳥肌が立ちましたね、分かりますよ。そして『黄昏のレンガ路』や『マッドマン』収録の70年代の珠玉の名曲を惜しげもなく詰め込んだステージ、これは長年の溜飲を下げるに十分な、あまりに感動的な2時間半のパフォーマンスでしたね。他にも、数年後、数十年後にこのライブをあらためて聴いた時、「ああ、そういえば2015年はそんな年だったんだな」と感慨にふけるであろう箇所、それが90年代の名曲「ビリーヴ」でしょうね。「先週末に発生したパリでのテロの犠牲者に捧げ」られたこの曲。全世界を巻き込んだ問題に発展している”イスラム国”、怖いですね、恐ろしいですね。彼らに対して、そして彼らと戦うものたちに対して「ラヴですよ、ノット・ヘイトですよ」と訴えているんですね。憎しみの連鎖を断ち切ろうという時代を超越したエルトンのメッセージは永久に不滅ですよ・・・話が逸れてしまいましたね。とにかく日本公演はスペシャルなセットリストだったんですね。大阪公演の「ダニエル」出だしで勘違いしたキムが「フィラデルフィア・フリーダム」を一瞬押鍵してしまうあたりからも、その非日常ぶりが窺い知れるというものですね。
そして、みなさん。いよいよ一番気になる音質についてですよ。今回のザヴェルによる2公演は、ステージ上で各メンバーが使用するIEMソースの数々と、門外不出のオリジナル・オーディエンス・ソース（MK4マスター）を絶妙のバランスでステレオ・ミックスしたものなんですね。卓直の非圧縮ライン音源と、ライヴならではの分厚い低音を最高の音質で捉えた最高峰のオーディエンス・ソース（オリジナルMK4マスター）とを、じっくりと時間をかけて丁寧にマトリクス処理しているんですね。「そんな説明じゃいまいちよく分からない」というみなさんには、流出ステレオン・サウンドボード音源と思ってもらってかまいません。3月におこなわれたジャクソン・ブラウンの東京公演最終日でも驚愕のライブ音源をリリースしたザヴェルですが、この作品はそれに勝るとも劣らない圧巻の仕上がりなんですね。テレビ放送から音を抜いた即席サウンドボード音源やどんぐりの背比べのオーディエンス音源とはわけが違いますよ。「そんなこといっても、しょせんブート屋の誇大インフォ。さんざん踊らされて我が家のライブラリーはゴミ溜めになりもうした。」と嘆き疑う向きにこそ、是非とも聴いてもらいたいんですね。エルトンの奏でる美しいピアノの音色と倍音豊かな太い歌声を核に、デイヴィーのギター、ナイジェルのドラム、マットのベース、キムのシンセ、ジョンのパーカッションと、全ての楽器を完璧な分離のリッチでファットな極上サウンドで捉えていますから、ほんとに素晴らしいです。それにしても70年代の名曲群を、今現在の厚く暖かみのあるエルトンの歌声で聴くにつれ、長年耳に馴染んできたはずのバーニー・トーピンの手による宝石のようなリリックスが、また新たな表情を見せながら心に染みわたるから不思議ですよ。あまりに感動的、涙涙ですよ。もちろん耳障りなオーディエンス・ノイズは皆無なので安心してお楽しみいただけますからね。
