1994年と95年の「FACE TO FACE」ツアーの大反響もあって、再び1998年に行われた同ツアーは、それまでアメリカでしか行っていなかった同ツアーとしては、初めてのオーストラリア、ニュージーランド、日本、そしてヨーロッパでの公演が組まれ、各所で大成功を収めました。最初で最後の「Face to Face」ツアーが行われた日本では、福岡、大阪、東京2回、名古屋とそれぞれドーム会場でライヴが行われ、大きな話題を呼びました。本盤は、DirecTVが放送したテレビ映像を、マニアが超高画質で録画・保存していたもので、ダイジェスト的内容ながら、素晴らしい画質でこの日のライヴを堪能することができます。後に3時間に及ぶコンサートの完全版が放送されましたが、本盤は、「Face To Face Live In Japan」と言うタイトルで放送されたもので、冒頭「3月29日、野球のオープン戦が終わったばかりの東京ドーム・・・」のイントロからスタートし、会場の機材セッティングの様子が流れ、更には3月3日のオーストラリアはパースでの記者会見の模様がインサートされるという、ダイジェスト版ながら、独自の構成がとられています(「CMの後は、お互いの曲を交換！」というテロップも凄い）。The StrangerとGoodbye Yellow Brick Roadの前には日本語の解説と共に、2人のそれぞれの簡単なバイオグラフィーがフィーチャーされるシーンもあります。画面で観れる圧巻のパフォーマンス（やはり「Face to Face」ツアーは映像で観るとその感動は倍増！）、更には日本の会場の盛り上がりぶりも楽しく、ファンは観ていて、懐かしさと感動でいっぱいになってしまうことでしょう。たった15年前なのに、会場のお客さんのルックスが皆さん、本当に90年代しており、この辺はミック・ジャガーの88年東京ドーム映像(こちらは25年前）とは違った懐かしさを感じてしまうことでしょう。ファンは大切な記録として、そして思い出の1枚として、是非とも入手して頂きたいタイトルです。
