The symbolic image of the ambitious “OCTOBER” era is upgraded. Ultra-super quality version of digital rebroadcast is now available.
This work was filmed “November 4, 1981 in Berlin”. It is a multi-camera pro shot when appearing on the West German specialty program “ROCKPALAST”. Speaking of U2’s “ROCKPALAST”, it reminds me of the outdoor festival of the masterpiece “TWO SHOWS BEAT AS ONE”, but that is “WAR Tour”. On the other hand, this work is an early “OCTOBER Tour”. In order to imagine the situation around that, let’s first review the two tours.
● 1981
・ August 16-September 2: Europe # 1 (6 performances)
《“OCTOBER” released on October 12》
・October 1-November 4: Europe #2 (29 performances) ← Coco
・November 13-December 13: North America #1 (23 performances)
・ December 20th + 21st: London (2 performances)
● 1982
・ January 23-26: Ireland (3 performances)
・ February 11-March 30: North America # 2 (32 performances)
・ May 14: Hattem Performance
・ July 1-August 7: Europe # 3 (8 performances)
・December 1-24: Europe #4 (20 performances)
● 1983
《“WAR” Released on February 28》
・ February 26-April 3: Europe # 5 (29 performances)
・ April 23-June 29: North America # 3 (48 performances) ← * TWO SHOWS BEAT AS ONE
・ July 2-August 21: Europe # 6 (5 performances) ← * TWO SHOWS BEAT AS ONE
・ November 16-30: Hawaii + Japan (7 performances)
This is the outline of the “OCTOBER Tour” and “WAR Tour”. “TWO SHOWS BEAT AS ONE” was coupled with two representative professional shots of the latter, but this work is the last day of “Europe # 2” two years ago. “ROCKPALAST FESTIVAL” in 1983 was outdoors, but this work was an indoor concert like the usual “ROCKPALAST”.
This work, filmed on such a stage, is super-superb. It has been known as a classic video for a long time, but this work was digitally rebroadcast on the German public broadcasting channel “EinsFestival (now: One)”. Neither broadcasting nor recording goes through analog at all, and the station master is converted to DVD with zero deterioration. The effect is tremendous, and the fineness of each hair and the metallic luster of the cymbal illuminated by the lighting are strangely beautiful. It is an eternal visual beauty that can only be called “completely official grade”.
The perfect quality portrayed is the enthusiastic performance by U2, with an average age of 20.5 (!). Since the tour is different from “TWO SHOWS BEAT AS ONE”, the set is naturally different, and it is full of delicious early songs. Let’s compete while comparing here.
● Boy (8 songs + α)
・Another Time, Another Place(★)/An Cat Dubh/Into the Heart/The Cry-The Electric Co./Twilight/Out of Control/The Ocean(★)/I Will Follow
● Others (5 songs)
・Irish October: Gloria/I Threw a Brick Through a Window/Rejoice (★)/I Fall Down (★)
・Single: 11 O’Clock Tick Tock (★)
* Note: “★” marks are songs that were not seen in the video work “TWO SHOWS BEAT AS ONE”.
… and it looks like this. Just seeing “Another Time, Another Place” and “Rejoice”, which have not been played since the “OCTOBER Tour”, gives me goosebumps, but the youthful things of the four who spell the set! His action while sweating is full of momentum all the way down to his fingertips, and his every move is sharp. Bono’s singing voice bursts with passion, and The Edge’s cutting and Adam & Larry’s beats are crisp. And that expression… it’s almost a child, beyond the youthful dimension.
We have archived a number of early soundboards at our shop, but the persuasive power of the images is exceptional. Vintage images are dazzling youthfulness, but there are not so many professional shots that shine so far. A piece where you can meet “Hatachi no U2” that transcends time and space through the beauty of digital rebroadcasts. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.
★ Multi-camera pro shot of “November 4, 1981 ROCKPALAST”. It has been known as a classic video for a long time, but this work is a recent digital rebroadcast version, neither broadcasting nor recording goes through analog at all, and the station master is converted to DVD with zero deterioration. The effect is tremendous, and the fineness of each hair and the metallic luster of the cymbal illuminated by the lighting are strangely beautiful. You can enjoy the rare songs “Another Time, Another Place” and “Rejoice” with the visual beauty of “completely official grade” and the fresh and enthusiastic performance of the average age of 20.5 (!).
