U2 in the “WAR” era, which made a breakthrough and embarked on world domination on the first headliner tour. Two of the finest soundboard albums are now available on a press CD that permanently preserves the pinnacle of masters.
This work is the second release of two works at the same time. “March 24, 1983 Glasgow performance”. That stereo soundboard recording. Speaking of the “WAR” era, the official video “U2 LIVE AT RED ROCKS: UNDER A BLOOD RED SKY” reigns as a symbol, and this week the masterpiece sound board “HAMMERSMITH PALAIS 1982 (Wardour-511)” is also released at the same time. Under such circumstances, let’s check what the position of this work is in the schedule at that time.
● 1982
<< September-October “WAR” production >>
・ December 1-24: Europe # 1 (20 performances) ← * HAMMERSMITH PALAIS 1982
● 1983
“February 28,” WAR “released”
・ February 26-April 3: Europe # 2 (29 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
・ April 23-June 29: North America (48 performances) ← * Video version UNDER A BLOOD RED SKY
・ July 2nd-August 21st: Europe # 3 (5 performances)
・ November 16-30: Hawaii / Japan (7 performances)
This is U2 in the “WAR” era. The simultaneous release “HAMMERSMITH PALAIS 1982” was the “PRE-WAR Tour” before the album was released, and the official “UNDER A BLOOD RED SKY” was the record of the US tour. On the other hand, the Glasgow performance of this work is in the meantime. It was the 23rd performance of “Europe # 2”.
This show was left with a favorite sound board known to those in the know. That’s because FM was broadcast on the radio at that time, and the broadcasting station was the local station “RADIO CLYDE” in western Scotland. Not only Japan and the United States, but also the United Kingdom was not broadcast nationwide, and it was not a complete broadcast of the show. And, the narrowness of the broadcasting area is directly linked to the fact that there are few people who recorded, and the possibility that a good-sounding air check master will be left is low. Of course, it’s an FM sound board, so it’s not extremely rare, but it hasn’t reached the standard.
However, even if the possibility was low, it was not zero. Yes, this work is the highest peak board that was directly digitized from the “extremely advanced master” that was finally excavated. Moreover, this new excavation master is not available on the internet or elsewhere. At our shop, we may introduce masters carefully selected by overseas sound source researchers such as David Bowie and Pink Floyd, but this work should be called the U2 version. Together with “HAMMERSMITH PALAIS 1982” released at the same time this week, it is a permanent preservation with the best existing master.
Actually, this is the highest ever. The radio DJ at the beginning is a little unstable (a part that was not heard by the master who was known in the past), but it is only a few seconds. By the time the performance starts, it becomes stable and the finest sound that can be called “completely official class” is poured into the brain. Of course, the sound quality itself is the highest ever, the bass resolution is excellent compared to some conventional masters, and there is no muddy or cloudy even if it is thick. The existence of such a wonderful master … As can be said for “HAMMERSMITH PALAIS 1982” released at the same time this week, how much knowledge this researcher has about sound source is not data or words but sound quality. It seems to prove with.
The show drawn on such a superb sound board is different from the official video “UNDER A BLOOD RED SKY”. Unfortunately, “RADIO CLYDE” has never broadcast the complete show, but it still enjoys about 53 minutes, which is enough for a music album, and there are some delicious precious songs. Here, let’s organize the set while comparing it with the official work and sister work “HAMMERSMITH PALAIS 1982”.
● Irish October (5 songs)
・ Gloria / I Threw A Brick Through A Window / I Fall Down (★) / October / Tomorrow (★ *)
● WAR (fight) (4 songs)
・ Seconds / New Year’s Day / Sunday Bloody Sunday / Two Hearts Beat As One (*)
● Others (4 songs + α)
・ Boy: A Day Without Me / The Cry-The Electric Co./Out of Control (*)
・ Single: Party Girl (*)
* Note: The “★” mark is a song that could not be heard in the official video “UNDER A BLOOD RED SKY”. The “*” mark is a song that cannot be heard on the soundboard album “HAMMERSMITH PALAIS 1982” released at the same time.
…… And it looks like this. Also, U2 plays by weaving fragments of famous songs, which is also interesting on this day. “Send in the Clowns” inserted in “The Electric Co.” is rather classic, but the Scottish folk song “Loch Lomond” is unique to Glasgow. Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” and Chubby Checker’s “Let’s Twist Again”, which were sweeping the world at the time, were also staples of the “WAR Tour”. And the precious thing is “Blaze Of Glory” of THE ALARM that appears in “Out of Control”. Other than this day, it is an extremely rare performance that only “INNOCENCE + EXPERIENCE Tour” 32 years later has been confirmed.
In 1983, the single “New Year’s Day” released about two months before this work recorded the 10th place in the United States, and the scale of activities became much larger. It is a masterpiece of a sound board album that pours the enthusiasm of such an era directly into the brain. One piece that permanently preserves the highest peak master of the researcher’s treasury. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.
★ Stereo soundboard recording of “March 24, 1983 Glasgow Performance”. It is the highest peak board directly digitized from the super-advanced master supervised by overseas U2 researchers, and its sound is “completely official grade”. Unfortunately, the full version of the show was not broadcast, but “I Fall Down” which can not be heard even in the official video “UNDER A BLOOD RED SKY” and “Blaze Of Glory” of the extremely rare THE ALARM are interwoven “Out of of” “Control” can also enjoy a delicious show with the best sound.
