We have discovered valuable audience recordings of the Urban Jungle Tour such as “FRANKFURT 1990” and “HANOVER 1990 2ND NIGHT”, but this time we have unearthed a valuable sound source of the Rotterdam performance. Unlike the past two titles, this Rotterdam is a valuable one that is a complete first appearance audience recording. Rotterdam in 1990 was held three times as the beginning of the Urban Jungle Tour, but this time the performance will be on the second day, May 19th.
Regarding the first day of Rotterdam, there was a real Thai release LP under the name of “LIVE IN HOLLAND”, and in recent years, a DAC CD was released, but for the second day, there were no items until now. It may have been a veiled existence among seed enthusiasts. Even in the Urban Jungle Tour, where there are few items, the early records are valuable, as the highly popular Hannover and Frankfurt releases have proven. After all, there were far fewer items.

That’s why this release can be called a great achievement, but the sound source was sent by a European enthusiast who actually saw the live performance that day. According to him, the taper sold him a copy of the tape (i.e. 1st Gen) after the live show. The freshness of the sound is actually wonderful because it is a copy made immediately after it was recorded. Also, the recording condition is similar to the previous day, giving the impression of a cassette audience at a vast outdoor venue. It is possible that it was recorded by the same taper.
However, the big advantage is that it doesn’t pick up the excitement and chatter of the surroundings as much as it did the day before, and it’s actually nice to be able to pick up the loud choruses that rise from the surroundings, centering on famous songs, with a rich stereo effect. The crowd that gathered that day seemed to be quite passionate fans, and it was so funny to see them singing not only classical music but also the new song at the time, “Rock and a Hard Place.” It’s fascinating how it captures that peaceful excitement with a balance without being sarcastic. Please be sure to wear headphones to enjoy the rich, natural sense of reality.
Of course, since the original was a cassette recording, the original sound source had a phenomenon such as a rise in pitch, but of course that was precisely adjusted for this limited press CD release. Thanks to this, the sound source captured in a more stable and balanced sound image than the previous day has evolved into a state that is even easier to hear.

What was most interesting was that the Stones had already performed in America and Japan, but perhaps because this was the second day of a tour that incorporated a new concept called urban jungle, their performance as a whole was clearly restless. It’s funny because it almost sounds like he’s being pushed. The difference is obvious even when compared to “HANOVER 1990 2ND NIGHT” about a week later. Originally, there was a time when the Stones’ performances were speedy and crisp, but on this day they were speedy.
Also, the day before, an aggressive attitude was captured by introducing repertoire such as “Terrifying”, but on this day, they avoided adventure and tried the usual set list. Even so, the momentum of this impetuous performance is really interesting. Therefore, there are few disturbances in the performance of each song, and songs such as “Mixed Emotions”, which are pushed by the large chorus that can be heard everywhere, are powerful as is typical of this period, but even so, it is not in a state that can be compared to “rock-solid”. different. I guess you could call it a rare atmosphere where the level of perfection is high but there is a sense of restlessness.
Up until now, there have been releases unique to the first half of Urban Jungle, such as in Hannover and Frankfurt, so this speedy performance is even more interesting. Above all, the members of the Stones were still young. Also, it’s fun to hear the chorus of ole ole between songs, which is typical of the show being held in the Netherlands during the World Cup. A complete debut sound source that will surprise enthusiasts, capturing the performance unique to the early stages of urban jungle in a mild and expansive audience recording!

『FRANKFURT 1990』に『HANOVER 1990 2ND NIGHT』といった具合でアーバン・ジャングル・ツアーの貴重なオーディエンス録音を発掘してまいりましたが、今回はロッテルダム公演の貴重な音源を発掘。過去二タイトルと違い、今回のロッテルダムは完全初登場オーディエンス録音という貴重なもの。1990年のロッテルダムはアーバン・ジャングル・ツアーの幕開けとして都合三回に渡って行われましたが、今回されるのは二日目である5月19日の公演。
ロッテルダムの初日に関しては『LIVE IN HOLLAND』の名のもとリアタイリリースのLP、さらに近年はDAC盤CDがリリースされていましたが、二日目に関しては今まで一切のアイテムが存在せず、ある種マニアの間でベールに包まれた存在となっていたのではないでしょうか。ただでさえアイテムが少ないアーバン・ジャングル・ツアーの中にあって、その序盤の記録が貴重であることは大好評なハノーバーとフランクフルトの各リリースが証明した通りでしょう。何しろアイテムが圧倒的に少なかった。

それだけに今回のリリースは快挙と呼べるものなのですが、その音源は実際に当日のライブを観たヨーロッパのマニアから送られてきたもの。彼によるとテーパーからライブ終了後にテープのコピー（つまり1st Gen）を売ってもらったとのこと。録音された直後に作られたコピーということから音の鮮度は実際に素晴らしい。また録音状態が前日と似ており、いかにも広大な野外会場でのカセット・オーディエンスといった印象。もしかしたら同じテーパーによって録音された可能性も考えられます。
ただし前日ほど周囲の盛り上がりや喋り声を大きなバランスで拾っていないのが大きなアドバンテージと言え、むしろ有名曲を中心として周囲から沸き上がる大合唱を豊かなステレオ感で拾ってくれているのが気持ちいい。この日集まったのは相当に熱心なファンだと思われ、クラシックはもちろん当時の新曲だった「Rock and a Hard Place」まで一緒に歌っているのが何とも微笑ましい。その和やかな盛り上がりを嫌味のないバランスで捉えてくれているのは魅力的。ここは是非ともヘッドフォンで豊かで自然な臨場感を味わってください。
もちろん元がカセット録音ですので、元の音源はピッチの上昇といった現象が生じていたのですが、そこはもちろん今回の限定プレスCDリリースに際してきっちりアジャスト。おかげで前日以上に安定したバランスかつ音像で捉えられた音源がさらに聞きやすい状態へと進化。

何より面白いのが既にアメリカ、日本とこなしてきたストーンズでありながら、アーバン・ジャングルという新しいコンセプトを組み入れて行ったツアーの二日目ということからか、全体の演奏が明らかに落ち着きない。むしろせかされるかのようにすら聞こえてしまうのだから面白い。約一週間後の『HANOVER 1990 2ND NIGHT』と比べてもその違いは明らか。元々ストーンズの演奏がスピーディでカラッとした演奏が身上の時期ではありましたが、この日はそれに輪をかけてスピーディ。
また前日は「Terrifying」のようなレパートリーを投入する攻めの姿勢が捉えられていましたが、この日は冒険を避けて通常のセトリで挑んでいる。それでもなおこのせかされるような演奏の勢いは本当に面白い。よって各曲の演奏の乱れなどは少なく、むしろ随所で聞かれた大合唱に押された「Mixed Emotions」などはこの時期らしい力強さのですが、それでもなお「盤石」と例えるような状態とは違う。完成度は高いのに落ち着きがないという稀有な雰囲気と言えばいいのでしょうか。
これまでハノーバーにフランクフルトと言った具合にアーバン・ジャングルの前半ならではのリリースが続きましたので、なおさらこのスピーディな演奏は面白い。それに何よりストーンズの面々もまだまだ若かった。そしてワールドカップ開催中のオランダでのショーらしく、曲間では随所でオーレオーレ合唱が巻き起こっているのも楽しい。アーバン・ジャングル序盤ならではの演奏をマイルドかつ広がりのあるオーディエンス録音で捉えてくれたマニア驚愕の完全初登場音源！
