ローリング・ストーンズの最新ツアーから今回はSoFiスタジアム二日目も同時にリリース。ベースとなるオーディエンス録音は初日と別のテーパーによるもの。こちらもまた複数の音源が姿を現しましたが、DANを名乗る人物のバージョンがベスト。初日のようなPITからの迫力の音像には及ばないものの、その程よい距離感を保ちつつ、それでいてミックの歌声が通って聞こえるバランスは絶賛発売中の「ST. LOUIS 2021」を彷彿とさせる録音状態。なおかつ演奏全体のバランスも非常に絶妙であり、限定プレスCDでのリリースの資格十分といったレベル。
程よい距離と会場から放たれたサウンドが含んだエコーのバランスが何とも絶妙であり、特にヘッドフォンで聞きこむと今回の音源の独特な聞き心地の良さを実感してもらえることでしょう。周囲の喋りもいくつか拾ってはいるものの、あるいはライブ前半でたまに音がふらつく場面も見られますが、それが深刻なストレスを与えるようなレベルでは（まったく！）なく、全体を通してはスタジアムの歓声が奥の方から押し寄せて来るようなバランスもまた独特な聞きやすさに一役買っているように思えます。

何と言ってもこの日はミックとキースがダートフォードの駅で再会を果たした運命の日から60年ということがミックの口から告げられると観客は大歓声。チャーリーを亡くしてもなおライブ活動を続けるローリング・ストーンズの源となったあの出会いから60年もの歳月が経ってしまったことを二人は噛み締めているのでしょうか。この日は初日のような暴走気味な勢いの代わりに、まるで一曲一曲を噛み締めるかのような姿が印象的。
それ故に今回のツアー初登場な「Beast of Burden」とセントルイス以来となる「Wild Horses」というバラード二曲が立て続けに演奏されるというセレクトはこの日に打ってつけだったのではないでしょうか。どちらもスティーブのドラミングの丁寧なバックアップにフロント三人の慎重な演奏ぶりが好感の持てるもの。
また「You Can’t Always Get What You Want」でロニーが弾いたソロを中心とした盛り上がりも実に見事なもので、これまたこの日らしい名演と呼べるでしょう。既にLA初日から閃きをみせていたエンディングでのリプライズはいよいよエキサイティングな展開へと進化している様子も聞き逃せません。ミックの煽りから再び始まった演奏には当然スティーブも切り込んできますが、これが非常にスリリング。

キース・コーナーに新機軸をもたらすことになった「Connection」は完全にスティーブ参加後を代表するレパートリーと化した感があり、ここではキースも余裕しゃくしゃくな様子でスティーブが叩き続けるイントロをバックに曲紹介をしてみせる姿も様になっている。これを書いている時点でナッシュビルからすべての日で演奏され続けており、もはや完全にレギュラー・レパートリーと化したようです。
そしてLA初日は今一つ煮え切らなかった「Midnight Rambler」がこの日は素晴らしい。まだ曲の展開を左右させるまでに至らないスティーブをひっぱるがのごとく、ここで奮起したのはミック。彼が途中で一節を口ずさむロバート・ジョンソン・ナンバーはここ数年「Come On In My Kitchen」であることが多いのですが、この日は登場頻度の少ない「Hellhound On My Trail」を歌い出して緊張感を高めてくれる。その効果は絶大なようで、スティーブも初日とは別人のような激しい一打を連発してくれたのでした。
このように「動の初日」に対して「静の二日目」という例えがぴったり当てはまるストーンズの最新LA二日間。チャーリーを失ってもスティーブという新たな触媒を得て今なお前進を続ける彼らのステージがここにきていよいよエンジン全開、日によって表情の違う緩急自在なライブを聞かせてくれているという証を示したオーディエンス・アルバムです。是非とも両日揃えてお楽しみください！
