もはや以降の公演の良質音源とリリースは世界中のマニアにとって急務といっても過言でない状態へと陥ってしまったのですが、ツアーは後半戦へと突入。そんなストーンズ近年のツアーにおいて珍しい状況へと陥ってしまった中、ようやく限定プレスCDリリースに相応しいクオリティの極上オーディエンス録音が登場。それが7月11日のブリュッセル。会場こそ違えど1973年に稀代の名演を生み出したヨーロッパにおけるストーンズの聖地とも言える土地への帰還を果たした彼らのステージを、文字通りの極上オーディエンスで捉えてくれたファイルはその名も「A BRUSSELS AFFAIR 22」というタイトルで登場してくれました。
そんな今回のオーディエンス録音は「MUNICH 2022」をも凌ぐオンな音像とクリアネスが圧巻。掛け値なしに限定プレスCDでのリリースが相応しい。まず何と言ってもミックの歌声が近い近い。なおかつクリアー。それだけでも「STONES SIXTY」ツアー二つ目の極上オーディエンスにして、今のところツアートップであることを確信させてくれる素晴らしい録音状態。例えば「19th Nervous Breakdown」を弾きだした時のキースの音の生々しさ、あるいは今回のツアーの目玉である「Out Of Time」を歌い上げるミックの近さ。それでいて観客の合唱が左側から聞こえてくる独特のステレオ感も魅力といえ、そこは是非ともヘッドフォンで味わっていただきたいもの。
よって限定プレスCDでのリリースしかありえない音源ではあるのですが、ライブ後半の盛り上がるレパートリーが続くと周囲の手拍子を中心とした盛り上がりが耳を突く個所があるのも事実。そこをイコライズにて緩和させ、元の音源より聞きやすい状態へと生まれ変わらせています。さらには低音の存在感が目立つ録音状態を調整したことで、先に触れたボーカルやギターがさらに近くに感じらえる状態へと進化。これによって元の音源の聞きやすさがさらにアップグレードしたことは確かで、元の音源を手に入れられたマニアであれば驚かれるレベルかと。
そして演奏の方はミュンヘンから一か月後のステージということもあり、ただでさえ昨年からのスティーブ・ジョーダン加入によってタイトになった演奏の勢いがマシマシ。それこそ「19th Nervous Breakdown」の疾走感などは素晴らしいものがありますし、スティーブのドラミングで初披露となった「Bitch」は絶品。チャーリー存命時のステージでも常にグループのエンジンを「オン」にさせてくれる重要なレパートリーとなっていただけに、スティーブとの相性も抜群。ここでも曲に新たな命が吹き込まれたことを実感させてくれるのは高音質ならでは。とはいえキースのルーズさが「Connection」では際立つなど、いつものストーンズらしさ（笑）も垣間見せてくれますし、この曲になると周囲がお喋りを始めてしまうという海外ストーンズ公演にありがちな光景も捉えられています。
こうしてスティーブによって息を吹き返したレパートリーが昨年から多数披露されている訳ですが、そうした中にあってどうしても往年の演奏の域に達せなかった「Midnight Rambler」が斬新な展開を見せ始めているのはライブ中盤における聞きどころの一つ。彼もようやく本曲で往年の演奏のようにバンドを煽れるような状況へと到達し、ミックもそれに安心したかのごとく「Come On In My Kitchen」の一節を歌い出しています。そしてスティーブのドラミングの違和感が拭えなかったもう一つのレパートリーである「Start Me Up」もオリジナルのスタジオ・バージョンの雰囲気を再現しようとしている彼のプレイがしっくりき始めており、その進化も高音質ゆえに聞いていて嬉しくなる。
スマホ動画が普及している現在を反映して音源が思いのほか現れてくれない最新「STONES SIXTY」ツアーからようやく登場した第二の極上オーディエンスにして現時点でのベスト・クオリティと呼べる音源が遂に登場と相成ります。しかも今回はストーンズ・ライブにとっての聖地たるブリュッセル。となればタイトルは「BRUSSELS AFFAIR 2022」とするしかないでしょう！
