“LOVESEXY Japan Tour 1989” was Prince’s largest performance in Japan and became a famous production area for superb sound boards. Among them, the original master of the precious rehearsal recording was excavated. Introducing a press CD that permanently preserves the highest peak sound.
This work was recorded in “February 1989: Osaka Castle Hall”. This is a stereo sound board recording recorded during the rehearsal just before the actual performance. Speaking of sound boards that came to Japan in 1989, “SENDAI 1989 (Zion-089)”, which is very popular in our shop, and “NAGOYA 1989 1ST NIGHT (Zion-197)” will be released at the same time this week. Let’s look back on the schedule at that time to understand the situation in that area.

This is the outline of the visit to Japan in 1989. This rehearsal is called “Osaka” many times in MC, so it’s certain that it was before the performance in Osaka. However, Prince did not participate in the rehearsal just before the final day (February 13th), so it is said that it was the rehearsal on the day of the first day of Osaka (February 12th) or the day before (February 11th). .. Rehearsal recordings range from practice to memorize songs to Genepro just like the actual performance, but this work is completely production-oriented because it is only in the middle of the tour. It’s a rehearsal that plays almost all songs as they are.
This rehearsal is also known for the fact that sandboard recordings were left behind, and has long reigned as a staple. This work is also the same famous sound board, but it is not an existing copy or remaster recurrence. Like “NAGOYA 1989 1ST NIGHT”, which will be released at the same time this week, it is the highest peak update board directly made into a CD from the newly excavated Omoto Master.
The sound is truly transcendent and the highest ever. It was “completely official class” from the previous edition, and the fierce synchronization feeling was great because it was directly connected to the mix table. In addition to its awesomeness, this work has a much wider range, with each note becoming more glossy. Please experience this awesomeness with headphones. Of course, I understand that the speakers have been upgraded, but with headphones, it feels almost different. The stereo feeling of bread that jumps to the left and right with a tremendous width, and the dynamism of treble to deep bass that extends forever have evolved overwhelmingly. As mentioned above, many sound boards have been born since 1989, but this work is exactly the ASMR-level super-pleasant sound board that is popular these days.
It is a great performance just like the actual performance that is drawn with such a different dimension sound. The set of the Japan tour was different depending on the day, but in this work, although it is only the core fixed song, it is rehearsed through almost the full show. This work was content that fits in one piece. And the performance that plays the set is amazing. Usually, even though it’s just before the actual performance, the rehearsal is something that I’m sick of. However, I can’t feel the relaxed feeling peculiar to rehearsal from this work. An enthusiastic performance that is no different from the actual performance … No, I feel a sense of tension because I concentrate on live performances without being conscious of the audience. Prince has always been a professional, but even in rehearsals he has a unique perfectionism. This work is also proof of that sound.
The sound quality of the official studio work level and live performance far beyond the dimension of rehearsal. That is an ultra-high quality musical piece that should be seated next to “LOVESEXY”. そんな本作が録音されたのは「1989年２月：大阪城ホール」。本番の直前リハーサルで記録されたステレオ・サウンドボード録音です。1989年来日のサウンドボードと言えば、当店でも大人気の『SENDAI 1989（Zion-089）』ほ他、今週は『NAGOYA 1989 1ST NIGHT（Zion-197）』も同時リリース。その辺の状況を理解するためにも当時のスケジュールから振り返ってみましょう。

これが1989年の来日概要。このリハーサルはMCで何度も「大阪」と言うので大阪公演前なのは確か。ただし、最終日（２月13日）の直前リハにはプリンスは参加しなかったので、大阪初日（２月12日）の当日リハか、前日（２月11日）リハだと言われています。リハーサル録音というと、曲を覚えるための練習から本番さながらのゲネプロまで様々ですが、本作はツアー真っ直中だけあって完全本番志向。ほぼ全曲を本番通りに演奏する通しリハなのです。
このリハーサルはサンドボード録音が残された事でも知られ、以前から定番として君臨。本作もまた同じ有名サウンドボードなのですが、既発のコピーやリマスター再発ではありません。今週同時リリースとなる『NAGOYA 1989 1ST NIGHT』と同じく、新発掘された大元マスターからダイレクトにCD化された最高峰更新盤なのです。
そのサウンドは、まさしく超絶にして過去最高。従来盤からして「完全オフィシャル級」でしたし、ミックス卓直結系だからこその猛烈なシンクロ感も絶大でした。本作はその凄まじさに加え、１音１音の艶がさらに増し、レンジもグッと広くなっているのです。この凄みはぜひヘッドフォンでご体験いただきたい。もちろん、スピーカーでもアップグレードしているのは分かりますが、ヘッドフォンではほとんど異次元感覚。凄まじい幅で左右にブッ飛ぶパンのステレオ感も、どこまでも伸びる高音から重低音のダイナミズムも圧倒的に進化している。前述の通り、1989年来日からは何作ものサウンドボードが誕生したわけですが、本作はまさに昨今流行のASMRレベルの超快感サウンドボードなのです。

……と、このようになっています。既発の中には２枚組仕様のものもありましたが、ピッチを正確に整えると録音時間は79分ジャスト。本作は１枚に収まる内容でした。そして、そのセットを演じるパフォーマンスが凄い。普通、いくら本番直前とは言ってもリハーサルはどこか気が抜けているもの。ところが、本作からはリハ特有のリラックス感が感じられない。本番と何ら変わらぬ熱演……いえ、客ウケを意識せずに生演奏に集中しているからこその緊張感まで宿っている。プリンスは常にプロフェッショナルでしたが、リハーサルにおいてさえ類い希なる完璧主義を貫いていた。本作は、その音の証拠でもあるのです。
