ライブを少ない本数で集客を上げるべく、行われた四回のライブはすべてフェス・レベルの広大な野外会場となり、その内三回は何らかの形で放送されるなど、アイテム的には非常に恵まれた状況にありました。
そんな中で唯一の例外となったのが2008年最後のライブとなったテルアビブ。リアタイでの放送が一切行われず、おまけに土地柄と相まって、ある意味ベールに包まれたような存在ですらあった。

ところが近年になってステレオ・サウンドボード録音が流出。いかにもPAサウンドボードチックなダイレクト感の強い状態だったのですが、これはもしかして映像の音声ではないのか…そうした推測を生む結果に。マニア間で議論された映像の存在が今回の登場によって現実のものとなったのです。
その映像はポール以下ミュージシャンたちのクローズなショットで占められており、フツーのライブ放送と違って観客が映し出される頻度が低い。そして先のような音声の状態とくれば察しがつくかと思われますが、当日の会場でスクリーンに映し出されたプロショット映像が流出したものだったという。
おまけに画質が非常に素晴らしく、今になって完全未発表のプロショット映像がこんな形で見られるようになるとは驚きを禁じえません。流出モノで生じがちなカットや映像の乱れが皆無なのも秀逸。またダイレクト感の強い音声は今回のプレスDVDリリースに際して微調整ながらもバランスを整えました。

こうして2008年で唯一まともなマテリアルの存在しなかったテルアビブ公演から一挙に充実のアイテムが登場してくれた訳ですが、映像本体は見どころの連続。最初に申しましたようにこの年のポールはライブの本数が少ない割に一回のライブが長いセトリで構成されており、その意欲とバンドの練度が追い付いてない感が否めなかった。
最たる例が2008年の最定番ライブ映像である7月のケベック・シティだったのですが、あそこでは「Penny Lane」を始めとしたライブ中盤の凡ミスが連発。なおかつそれがテレビで放送されていた訳ですが、ライブの本数が少ないが故の練度の低さはここテルアビブでも露呈。
まず「Calico Skies」のリフを弾きながら歌わなけなければならない状態にポールがおぼつかなくなり、次の「I’ll Follow The Sun」では冒頭から歌詞を間違えてラスティ・アンダーソンに向かって苦笑する彼の姿が映し出される。またケベック・シティでも演奏が不安定だった「Mrs. Vandebilt」ではポールがさらに盛大にやらかしており、すかさずドラムのエイブが「ちがうちがう」という素振りを見せている場面まで映像が捉えてくれているから面白い。

ポール2010年代のツアーに次ぐツアー活動はこうした2008年の経験も踏まえた結果だと思われ、だからこそステージをこなしてバンドの練度を上げねば…と再認識したのかもしれません。挙句の果てにはウクレレ「Something」でも凡ミスが散見されるなど、今となっては逆にその自由な演奏ぶりやミスの連発がかえって新鮮に映るから余計に面白いのです。
一方で「My Love」に「Here There And Everywhere」、さらにはオープニングの「Hello Goodbye」といった具合に今では歌われなくなってしまった名曲たちが惜しげもなく披露されているのもこの時代のセトリならでは。
あれだけ自由な演奏が捉えられていた定番ケベック・シティとはまた違ったハプニングも含んで見どころ満載の新たな2008年ライブ映像がこれほどまで完璧なクオリティのプロショット＆サウンドボードにて登場するとは。これは初心者からマニアまで必見だと胸を張って推したい初登場プロショット映像です！
