Ann & Nancy Wilson sisters in 2023, who are continuing their individual activities while the news of HEART’s revival runs around the world. Two such latest live albums will be released together.
This work is literally a two-part series by Nancy Wilson. It is the best audience recording of “June 18, 2023 Bethlehem Performance”. Compared to Ann, Nancy’s solo activities are sporadic, and her live performances are about a few times a year. Even so, last year I embarked on a tour after a long absence. First of all, let’s check her recent situation including that on the schedule.

This is the schedule for 2022/2023 that has been announced so far. Last year, they toured more than 20 performances for the first time since 1999, and this year’s tour is about half of that. The schedule has already been completed, and future plans have not been announced. Under such circumstances, the Bethlehem performance of this work was a concert on the final day (By the way, Bethlehem is not the city of David in Palestine, but the city of Pennsylvania in the United States). Ann’s “DUBLIN 2023 (Shades 1812)”, which will be released at the same time, was the first show this year, while this work of Nancy is the last stage.
This work, which vacuum-packed such a scene, is truly a masterpiece. Although it is not mistaken for a sound board in terms of timbre, the thick core approaches in front of you without a sense of distance, and along with that, the details are clear even to the smallest details. The separate feeling is also wonderful, and the outline is crisp and beautiful. While Anne’s “DUBLIN 2023” felt like “This is not a sound board!?” In any case, this work is also a famous recording that is outside the common sense of the audience.
A full show with plenty of familiar masterpieces is depicted with that tight and direct sound. Let’s get things sorted out here.

… and it looks like this. From the solo work “YOU AND ME”, he just performed “4 Edward”, a small piece of guitar at the closing, and it is a selection of masterpieces that are almost almost HEART’s representative songs and covers. Most of the covers are also famous songs that have been played at WINGS, LED ZEPPELIN, PINK FLOYD and HEART shows. What is somewhat surprising is VAN HALEN’s “When It’s Love”. This also has a refreshing melody and powerful melody, and you can listen to a wonderful version as if it were her original.
The main body HEART’s Ryan Waters, Dan Walker, and Andy Stoller also participated in the impregnable ensemble, and the repertoire is full of familiar masterpieces. Anne’s “DUBLIN 2023”, which will be released at the same time, was a challenging content featuring new songs, but this is exactly one of the true roads that goes “HEART without Anne” on the ground. HEART復活の報が世界を駆け巡る一方、それぞれ個別の活動も続けている2023年のアン＆ナンシー・ウィルソン姉妹。そんな２人の最新ライヴアルバムが２作揃ってリリース決定です。
本作は、文字通り姉妹作となる２連作のナンシー・ウィルソン編。「2023年６月18日ベツレヘム公演」の極上オーディエンス録音です。アンに比べるとナンシーのソロ活動は散発的で、ライヴも年に数回程度。そんな中でも昨年は久々となるツアーに乗り出していました。まずは、それも含めた彼女の近況をスケジュールでチェックしてみましょう。

これが現在までに公表されている2022年／2023年のスケジュール。去年は1999年以来となる20公演超えのツアーを実施しつつ、今年はその半分ほど。すでに全日程を終えており、今後の予定は公表されていません。そんな中で本作のベツレヘム公演は最終日のコンサートでした（ちなみに、ベツレヘムとは言ってもパレスチナのダビデの町ではなく、米国ペンシルベニア州の都市のことです）。同時リリースとなるアンの『DUBLIN 2023（Shades 1812）』は今年最初のショウだったのに対し、ナンシー篇の本作は最後のステージというわけです。
そんな現場を真空パックした本作は、まさに極上の銘品。音色的にサウンドボードと間違えはしませんが、極太な芯は距離感なく目の前に迫り、それに伴ってディテールも微細部まで鮮明。セパレート感も見事ですし、輪郭もキリッと美しい。アン篇『DUBLIN 2023』が「これがサウンドボードじゃない!?」という感じだったのに対し、本作は「オーディエンスかもしれんけど、かなりサウンドボードっぽい」といったところでしょうか。いずれにせよ、本作もオーディエンスの常識外となる名録音なのです。
そのタイト＆ダイレクト・サウンドで画かれるのは、お馴染みの名曲もたっぷりのフルショウ。ここでその内容も整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。ソロ作『YOU AND ME』からはクロージングにギター小品の「4 Edward」を披露するだけで、ほぼほぼHEARTの代表曲とカバーで固めた名曲選。カバーもWINGSやLED ZEPPELIN、PINK FLOYDと本体HEARTのショウでも演奏してきた有名曲がほとんど。やや意外なのはVAN HALENの「When It’s Love」でしょうか。これも爽やかメロディと力強さを両立した曲調が似合わないハズがなく、まるで彼女のオリジナルかのようにハマッた見事なバージョンを聴かせてくれるのです。
本体HEARTのライアン・ウォーターズ、ダン・ウォーカー、アンディ・ストーラーも参加したアンサンブルは鉄壁で、レパートリーもお馴染み名曲揃い。同時リリースとなるアンの『DUBLIN 2023』は新曲をフィーチュアした挑戦的な内容でしたが、こちらはまさに「アン抜きのHEART」を地で行く正道の１枚です。姉妹でもまったく異なる指向のフルショウを味わえる最新ライヴアルバムの同時リリース。どうぞ、併せてじっくりとお楽しみください。
