From Mick’s first solo tour in Japan in 1988, the Tokyo Dome performance that was held on March 22nd and 23rd, and the video that was broadcast on TV on March 27th while Mick was still in Japan, including a commercial on the way. The one and only complete broadcast version recorded for 1 hour and 25 minutes. At the beginning, recorded from the trailer spot that was played a few minutes before the live main broadcast started. It starts with Mick’s greeting, and although it is a digest, there are plenty of videos other than the stage when he came to Japan. Above all, the scene where Mick caught a cold and apologized for the cancellation of the Osaka performance on the day of the live is very valuable!
The main part of the live is a tight sound backed by masters such as Simon Phillips and Joe Satriani, which has a lot of charm different from Stones, and even if you listen to it now, the color and power of its unique sound has not faded at all. Hmm. And above all, it was the first Mick’s Tokyo live for us Japanese fans, so we were knocked out by the series of angry Stones numbers that were released one after another. Of course, it’s not a Stones live, but it’s an event-wise impression! Impressed! It was a moving storm again.
The first song of the live. No matter how many times I see the crowd of Tokyo Dome going crazy with “Honky Tonk Women” starting with a tight beat, it’s amazing. And when I think about it calmly, I was really lucky to hear Mick’s solo stage and songs such as “Throwaway” and “Party Doll”, and contrary to the evaluation at that time, the live performance. Then these songs were also exciting. And perhaps the broadcaster also paid attention to Philips’ baby-faced appearance, and it’s interesting to edit that a small camera is attached to the front of his drum kit, and it is photographed more than anyone other than Mick.
However, Mick himself cannot hide the feeling of illness for the above reason, and the song without too much intonation continues from “Gimme Shelter”. Moreover, in this song, Mick appeared from the mixer area, sewed between the audience seats and returned to the stage, but from the 1981 “Let Me Go” out of the category, Mick’s I can’t hide my upset (laughs). The next day, I was disciplined by this, or the production of crossing the audience seats disappeared as a matter of course (the 23rd appeared from the stage sleeve in this song), but instead, the next day came to Japan at the same time. There was a surprise that Tina Turner jumped in, and these two songs are one of the wonderful highlights of the latter half of the show. (By the way, on the stage of Tina Turner on the 27th, Mick jumped in as a guest and duet Honky Tonk Women.) And after all, the venue for the Stones members who finally came to Japan was one. Isn’t the appearance of the excitement surpassing that of the Stones two years later? I can think of it. I would also like to re-evaluate the Japanese-conscious production of “Sympathy For The Devil”.
As mentioned at the beginning, as a feature of this board, all of the commercials that were broadcast on the day are recorded, but of course these do not affect the performance content and it is Mick’s live itself. It has nothing to do with it, but when I look at the whole broadcast at that time, it reminds me of a bubbly atmosphere and is full of nostalgia. I think that many people will be happy to record Mick’s long-awaited visit to Japan, but among the commercials that appear in the meantime, there is a video of the strongest boxer who was in its heyday at that time. It appears many times, and even though it was supposed to be an actor, he later came to Japan by deceiving a boxer (laughs), and the image of the person who makes the legend of Maneki Neko Punch is really nostalgic in every sense, the atmosphere unique to 1988 It is a video title that you can enjoy. Of course, with an original menu. Please enjoy that brilliant Mick’s first visit to Japan with the best image quality to your heart’s content!
