“ASSAULT ATTACK Tour” is known for its unexplored region even in the golden age. The new excavation master who tells the site is the gift release decision.
It is “December 1, 1982 Edinburgh performance” that is sealed in such a work. It is the excellent audience recording. Speaking of “ASSAULT ATTACK Tour”, it started with Graham’s disappearance at the warm-up gig and Gary Barden’s return to electric shock, but it ended in a short period of time, probably because there was a limit to promotion with a different singer. I will shift to the production doctor of the next work “BUILT TO DESTROY” as soon as possible (although the next work will also be difficult to deliver). This is the outline of activities related to “ASSAULT ATTACK”. The number of performances of MSG is not strict because the detailed dates may be vague depending on the material, but you can understand the general flow and scale. In less than a week after Graham’s disappearance, he completed a feat of appearing at the Reading Festival with Baden, but the main tour begins about three months later. It was a very limited stage only in the UK and Japan. Among them, the Edinburgh performance of this work is the beginning. It was the 6th performance of the “UK” tour.
This work recorded at such a show is a new excavation master who has jumped out of the collection of the topic now. The collection is “G. Mann”. Yes, there are various press masterpieces such as ACCEPT’s “MONSTERS OF ROCK 1984 (Zodiac 436)”, Gary Moore’s “MONSTERS OF ROCK 1984 (Zodiac 439)”, and MOTLEY CRUE’s “NUREMBERG 1984 (Zodiac 433)”. The prestigious 2021 that has sent out the band’s masterpieces. The other day, MSG’s 4-disc set “MANCHESTER 1982 (Shades 1333)” became very popular. This work is a live album that can be called a sequel to that “MANCHESTER 1982”.
It seems that this time as well as “MANCHESTER 1982”, it was not recorded by “G.Mann” himself, but the quality is undeniable. The best thing is the on-core and the glossy sound. While making the vintage tone at the beginning make me think “Is it a normal recording?”, When the performance starts, a powerful and clear performance sound jumps into the details. As a matter of fact, the base is a little retracted, but the others are perfect. Especially wonderful is the leading role Michael’s Flying V, which is delicate enough to convey not only the width of choking and vibrato but also the angle of the pick.
The sound depicts the MSG completed as a unit with Baden & Ted McKenna. Let’s organize the set here.

Unfortunately, “Into the Arena” and “Desert Song” were missed in the mid-stage change, but the early masterpiece selection starting with “Ulcer”, which is a proof of “ASSAULT ATTACK Tour”, is still exceptional. “Scotland the Brave”, which will be shown at the start of Angkor, is a favorite song that is also called “unofficial Scottish national anthem”. However, it is not a band performance, but a large chorus between Baden and the audience. However, it’s not just a play, and the riff of “Are You Ready to Rock” is very cool when it gets excited.
The number of live performances is small, and it is inevitable that it will become an unexplored region, “ASSAULT ATTACK Tour”. Not only does it enrich the collection, but the album itself is a live album with great sound. Not only as a sequel to “MANCHESTER 1982”, but also as a trial board for those who are overwhelmed by the volume of the 4-disc set of “MANCHESTER 1982”. 黄金時代の中でも秘境で知られる“ASSAULT ATTACK Tour”。その現場を伝える新発掘マスターがギフト・リリース決定です。
そんな本作に封じられているのは「1982年12月１日エディンバラ公演」。その絶品オーディエンス録音です。“ASSAULT ATTACK Tour”と言えば、ウォームアップ・ギグでのグラハム失踪とゲイリー・バーデンの電撃復帰から始まったわけですが、さすがに違うシンガーでのプロモーションに限界があったのか、短期間で終了。早々に次作『BUILT TO DESTROY』の制作医へとシフトしていきます（もっとも次作も難産になってしまうわけですが）。本作は、そんな貴重なショウを現場体験できるライヴアルバム。まずは、その歩みを振り返りショウのポジションを確かめてみましょう。

これが『ASSAULT ATTACK』にまつわる活動概要。MSGは資料によって細かい日付があやふやだったりするので、公演数など厳密ではありませんが、おおよその流れとスケール感はご理解いただけると思います。グラハム失踪から１週間弱でバーデンとレディング・フェスティバルに出演する離れ業をこなしたわけですが、ツアー本編が始まるのはその約３ヶ月後。英国と日本だけの極々限られたステージだけでした。その中でも本作のエディンバラ公演は序盤。「英国」ツアー６公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウで記録された本作は、今話題のコレクションから飛び出した新発掘マスター。そのコレクションとは「G.Mann」。そう、ACCEPTの『MONSTERS OF ROCK 1984（Zodiac 436）』やゲイリー・ムーアの『MONSTERS OF ROCK 1984（Zodiac 439）』、MOTLEY CRUEの『NUREMBERG 1984（Zodiac 433）』といったプレス名盤を筆頭にさまざまなバンドの傑作を送り出している2021年の名門。先日もMSGの４枚組『MANCHESTER 1982（Shades 1333）』が大好評となりました。本作は、その『MANCHESTER 1982』の続編ともいうべきライヴアルバムなのです。
今回も『MANCHESTER 1982』と同じく「G.Mann」本人の録音ではないようですが、クオリティは流石。何よりも素晴らしいのはオンな芯と艶やかな鳴り。冒頭のヴィンテージな音色に「普通録音かな？」と思わせつつ、演奏が始まると力強くディテールまでクッキリとした演奏音が飛び込んでくる。実のところ、ベースはやや引っ込み気味ではあるものの、他は満点。特に素晴らしいのは主役マイケルのフライングＶでして、チョーキングやヴィブラートの幅は勿論、ピックの持つ角度まで伝わって来そうな繊細さです。
そのサウンドで描かれるのは、バーデン＆テッド・マッケンナも揃ってユニットとして完成したMSGの姿。ここでセットも整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。残念ながら中盤のテーチェンジで「Into the Arena」「Desert Song」が録音漏れになってしまったものの、“ASSAULT ATTACK Tour”の証である「Ulcer」から始まる初期の名曲選はやはり格別。アンコールスタートで披露される「Scotland the Brave（勇敢なるスコットランド）」は”非公式なスコットランド国歌”とも言われる愛唱歌のこと。ただしバンド演奏ではなく、バーデンと観客による大合唱のかけ合いです。しかし、ただの遊びというわけでもなく、散々盛り上がったところで「Are You Ready to Rock」のリフが轟く流れは非常にカッコイイのです。
ライヴ数自体が少なく、秘境になるのも必然な“ASSAULT ATTACK Tour”。そのコレクションを豊かにしてくれるだけでなく、本作自体が素晴らしいサウンドのライヴアルバムです。『MANCHESTER 1982』の続編としては勿論、『MANCHESTER 1982』の４枚組というボリューム気後れされている方のお試し盤としても最高な１本。どうぞ、この機会にコレクションに加えてください。
