Speaking of Toronto in 1971, the release of “MAPLE LEAF GARDENS”, a compilation of each sound source by GRAF ZEPPELIN, is also new to my memory, but this gift CD-R appeared as if inspired by it. The most famous audience source in Toronto, “recorder 1”, which was released in the second generation during the cassette trading era, was filed in 2006 and has become popular to date. However, recently, a new cassette from the original cassette has appeared on the net.
Moreover, not only was it transferred again, but it was the familiar dadegad who remastered it and published it on the net.
Speaking of the Toronto audience “recorder 1”, although it had the drawback that the sound sometimes cracked and the cuts between songs occurred frequently, it is the sound source that boasts the most on-sound image for the audience recording of the 1971 US tour. It’s one, and it’s actually very easy to hear. Besides, unlike the LA Forum, the plant was in very good condition, and it was one of the popular sound sources for enthusiasts because it was even more enjoyable thanks to the close sound image.
And one more thing. Speaking of Toronto in 1971, the PA out sound board recording that included the middle part of the show from “Stairway To Heaven” has been famous for a long time, but it was too incomplete and left a big dissatisfaction in terms of reproduction of the day. .. In that respect, the audience “recorder 1” is also of great value in that it conveys the charm of the show, which is not transmitted by the most major sound board in the sound source of Toronto in 1971.
For that reason, we do not dare to supplement with another source this time, but we want you to enjoy this new version of “recorder 1”, and we have made only the minimum adjustments and made it a gift. Not only is this sound source close to the sound image, but it is also a big attraction that it captures Johnsy’s bass, which sounds an inexhaustible play with a powerful presence, in a wonderful balance. Therefore, “Communication Breakdown”, which was not recorded on the sound board but included his bass solo, was very powerful.
It is true that the audience recording is not as honorable as Eddie’s day when the sound source from the master tape is finally released, but it is also the sound source that enthusiasts who are accustomed to this kind of sound source can enjoy the most. After all, the 1971 ZEP has a good performance, and the screaming of the plant is clear. An era when the power of all members was maintained in an exquisite balance.

1971年のトロントと言えばGRAF ZEPPELINによる各音源の集大成「MAPLE LEAF GARDENS」のリリースも記憶に新しいところですが、まるでそれに触発されたかの如く現れたのが今回のギフトCD-R。トロントのオーディエンス・ソースではもっとも有名な「recorder 1」はカセット・トレードの時代にセカンド・ジェネレーションの状態で出回ったものが2006年になってファイル化された結果、現在までポピュラーな存在となったのですが、最近になって元のカセットから改めてトランスファーされたものがネット上に現れました。
しかも改めてトランスファーされただけでなく、それをリマスターしてネット上に公開してくれたのがおなじみdadgad。
トロントのオーディエンス「recorder 1」と言えば、たまに音が割れたり曲間のカットが頻発したりという欠点を抱えてはいたものの、1971年USツアーのオーディエンス録音としてはもっともオンな音像を誇る音源の一つであり、実際とても聞きやすい。それに何といってもLAフォーラムなどと違ってプラントの調子が非常によく、それが近い音像のおかげでなおさら楽しめるという、マニアには人気のある音源の一つでした。
それともう一つ。71年のトロントと言えば「Stairway To Heaven」からショー中盤部分を収めたPAアウトのサウンドボード録音も昔から有名ですが、あまりに不完全でこの日の再現という意味では大きな不満が残るものだった。その点オーディエンス「recorder 1」は71年トロントの音源ではもっともメジャーなサウンドボードでは伝わらないショーの魅力を伝えくれるという点でも大きな価値がある。
それだけに今回は敢えて別ソースによる補填などを行わず、この「recorder 1」のニューバージョンを楽しんでいただきたく、最小限の調整だけを施してギフト化しています。この音源は音像が近いというだけでなく、縦横無尽なプレイを迫力の存在感で鳴らすジョンジーのベースも見事なバランスで捉えているという点も大きな魅力。ですからサウンドボードには収録されず、それでいて彼のベースソロが盛り込まれた「Communication Breakdown」はブリブリと凄い迫力。
確かに遂に今回マスターテープからの音源がリリースされるエディーの日ほど優等生的なオーディエンス録音ではありませんが、この手の音源に慣れたマニアなら最高に楽しめる音源でもある。何しろ1971年のZEPは演奏のイキがよく、なおかつプラントのスクリーミングが冴えわたる。メンバー全員の力が絶妙なバランスで保たれていた時代。
そんなバランスはここトロントでも遺憾なく発揮されていて、やはり特別な一年であったことを痛感させてくれる。どの音源にも興味はあるが、まずはどれか一つ71年トロントを聞いてみたいというマニアに自信を持って勧めるギフトです。
