Speaking of “turquoise logo first”, the initial press of the ZEP first album with a feeling that it has become a rare item that can be communicated by itself among maniacs. It has been known as one of the rare items for a long time because of the easy-to-understand color difference of the logo on the jacket. And there is a feeling that it has become a famous item because the price jumps to a ridiculous amount. The popularity of this item has increased further in the recent resurgence of analog, and has now reached a level where it cannot be purchased with a decent amount of money.
If the material is different in the first release, it’s only natural that the sound quality will be different… let alone the sound quality that is different from the current 2014 remaster. However, it is natural that it is not a board that can be heard so easily. Because it’s a mega-rare item traded among collectors, it’s not easy to ask. It can be said that this is exactly the same situation as the Nimbus board of the Beatles “Sergeant Peppers”.
The polite CD conversion of that nimbus board “Sgt. Peppers” is also fresh in memory, but this time, CD conversion of “Turquoise Logo First” with “Uncensored Mato” LP, which is one of the most difficult ZEP albums is realized.

However, “Turquoise Logo First” with “Uncensored Mato” LP has been attempted to be released on CD in the past. But … What can I say, it was hard to say that it was a transfer that fully brought out the original charm of the mega rare board. Even if it can’t be helped that there was a lot of scratch noise, the pitch was so high that even gap noise entered between songs.
If you are a maniac who has had a UK original board that is popular in the second-hand market, you will understand, but the secret to the current abnormal popularity of such a vintage board is the freshness of the sound unique to the original press. On the other hand, there is also the reality that crackling noise is likely to occur in most cases.
So, this time, speaking of ZEP, “GRAF ZEPPELIN” will carry out a transfer from the mint condition “Turquoise Logo First” with “Uncensored Mato” LP. In fact, “GRAF ZEPPELIN” is also a master of transfer from analog. In the past, there was also a track record of groundbreaking releases such as the Beatles’ “GOLDEN ANALOG EXPERIENCE”.

“GRAF ZEPPELIN” has been very active this time as well, and has realized an extremely clean and natural transfer of the Megarea “Uncensored Mato” board. Thanks to this, the unique sound of “Uncensored Mato”, which is completely different from the current remastered CD, can be easily heard on the CD. The most obvious is the extremely natural tone of the acoustic guitar played by Jimmy. If so, the difference is clear from “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You”. And there is no scratch noise even in songs like “I Can’t Quit You Baby”.
At the same time, the remastered CD adds echo to some songs (not to the extent that it is better, but it is added at a better level), and the technology used at the time of remastering was used to make the left and right separation clearer. If you listen to it and compare it, you will notice it.
“Your Time Is Gonna Come” is one song that allows you to understand the naturalness of this acoustic tone, as well as the separation and echo issues. Furthermore, “You Shook Me” and “I Can’t Quit You Baby” are also noticeable regarding the fact that the left and right separation is emphasized on the current CD.
Therefore, by playing from the speaker, you can of course enjoy the natural and transparent texture unique to “Uncensored Mato”, but by listening with headphones you can enjoy a slight mix difference. Above all, you can easily enjoy the taste unique to Megarea’s earliest press, which is not easy to hear now!

It has been released on CD once in the past, but it was a rather bland title with problems such as too fast speed, gap noise at track changes, and loud needle crackling noise (in a sense, graceful).

★ This LP has a flat and natural sound that is not obtrusive.
Compared to the latest 2014 remaster, the 2014 remaster seems to have added a little echo-like processing, and the balance of each instrument is slightly centered, so you can enjoy it with a moderate sense of distance compared to the LP sound.

It is an exaggeration to say that the mix is different, but it is possible to see the difference in texture between the two.

★While preserving the analog taste, conspicuous scratch noise is carefully pinpointed and removed so as not to affect the musical sound.

「ターコイズ・ロゴのファースト」と言えばマニアの間ではそれだけで通じてしまうほどのレア・アイテムとなった感のあるZEPファーストアルバムの初期プレス。ジャケのロゴの色の違いという分かりやすさが功を奏して昔からレア・アイテムの一つとして知られてきましたが、さらにジャケだけでなくマトリクスが修正されていない最初期プレスの盤が伴うと価格がとんでもない額へと跳ね上がってしまうことでも有名なアイテムとなった感があります。近年のアナログ復権の中で本アイテムの人気はさらに上昇、今やまともな金額では買えない域へと到達してしまいました。
最初期のリリースでマトが違うとくれば音質が違うのも当然…ましてや現行の2014リマスターと音質が違うのも当然。だがしかし、そう簡単に聞ける盤でないのも当然。コレクター間で取引されるメガレア・アイテムなせいで、聞きたくとも簡単には聞けない。これはビートルズ『サージェント・ペパーズ』のニンバス盤などとまったく同じ状況だと言えるのではないでしょうか。
あのニンバス盤『サージェント・ペパーズ』の丁寧なCD化も記憶に新しいところですが、今回はZEPアルバムにおける最難関の一つである「ターコイズ・ロゴのファースト」with「無修正マト」LPのCD化が実現します。

もっとも「ターコイズ・ロゴのファースト」with「無修正マト」LPは過去にもCD化が試みられたことはありました。しかし…こう言っては何ですが、メガレア盤が持つ本来の魅力を出し切った形でのトランスファーとは言い難いものがあった。スクラッチノイズが盛大に入っていたのは仕方ないとしても、何とピッチが高くて曲間でギャップノイズまで入ってしまうという、CD化以前の稚拙な問題を抱えたままだったのです。
中古市場でもてはやされるUKオリジナル盤を手にしたことがあるマニアならわかるかと思われますが、そうしたビンテージな盤はオリジナル・プレスならではの音の鮮度が現在の異常人気の秘訣でしょう。その一方で大抵はバチバチとしたノイズが生じやすいという現実もある。
そこで今回はZEPと言えばの「GRAF ZEPPELIN」がミント・コンディションな「ターコイズ・ロゴのファースト」with「無修正マト」LPからのトランスファーを敢行。実のところ「GRAF ZEPPELIN」はアナログからのトランスファーの達人でもあって。過去にはビートルズの『GOLDEN ANALOG EXPERIENCE』のような画期的なリリースの実績もありました。

「GRAF ZEPPELIN」は今回もその手腕を大いに奮ってくれており、メガレア「無修正マト」盤の極めてクリーンでナチュラルなトランスファーを実現してくれたのです。おかげで現在のリマスターCDとはまるで違う「無修正マト」ならではのサウンドが簡単にCDで聞けるように。最も分かりやすいのは、ジミーが弾くアコースティック・ギターの極めて自然な音色。となれば「Babe I’m Gonna Leave You」からしてその差がはっきり。そして「I Can’t Quit You Baby」のような曲でもスクラッチノイズは皆無。
それと同時に、リマスターCDでは曲によってエコーが付け加えられており（マシマシというほどではないが、マシというレベルでは加えられている）なおかつリマスター時のテクノロジーを使って左右の分離をよりはっきりさせていたことも聞き比べると気づかれることかと。
このアコースティックな音色の自然さ、それに分離やエコーの件などが一曲で理解できるのは「Your Time Is Gonna Come」。さらに左右の分離が現行のCDで強調された件に関しては「You Shook Me」や「I Can’t Quit You Baby」でも顕著。
よってスピーカーから鳴らすことで「無修正マト」ならではナチュラルで透き通らんばかりの質感を楽しむのはもちろんですが、ヘッドフォンで聞くことによってちょっとしたミックス違い感まで楽しめてしまう。何より今ではなかなか簡単に聞くことができないメガレアの最初期プレスならではの味わいをお手軽に！

（作業メモ＆雑感）

★UK 1st LPのターコイズジャケ盤(当然､修正なしマトリクスのコンディション良好盤)からダイレクトにデジタル化
過去にも1度CD化されていますが､そちらでは早すぎるスピードや､トラック変わり目のギャップノイズ､盛大な針パチノイズ(ある意味潔いが)などの問題を抱えた､かなり大味なタイトルであった

★本LPは､押しつけがましさの感じられない､フラットかつナチュラルなサウンド
最新2014リマスターと比べると2014リマスターでは若干エコーぽい処理も加えられているようで､また各楽器バランスも若干センター寄せされ適度な距離感で堪能できるLPの音に比べ､

左右にべったりと密着するように広く配置されたことで､ミックス違いまでは言い過ぎですが､それくらい互いの質感の違いを確認できる

★アナログのテイストは残しつつ､目立つスクラッチノイズは楽音に影響を及ぼすことのないよう､丁寧にピンポイントで除去
