ZEP Speaking of Louisville in 1977, many items were created at that time as a new sound source excavated in 2007. Although it was an actual stereo audience recording, it had problems such as “distortion of the sound” or “low pitch”, and while it was a valuable new sound source, it was undeniable that it was a sound source with high hurdles.
Sure enough, there was no sign that a new title would be released other than the items at the time of 2007, and it seems that it ended up being positioned as a sound source for 1977 tour enthusiasts.
It was another sound source of the same day, so to speak, “recorder 2” that ate the tilt there. Here, there are frequent cuts such as a big defect in the opening “The Song Remains The Same” and “No Quarter”. In addition, there were frequent troubles that the sound image became far away, probably because the microphone could not be fixed until “Nobody’s Fault But Mine”.
To be clear, it is still a sound source for enthusiasts, but there are still some merits that “recorder 1” does not have.

Basically, both sound sources were distorted, which tells us that the sound output from ZEP at the venue on the day was large, but still “In My Time Of Dying” was stable and ” Since there is no distortion at the ends of the sound as in “recorder 1”, there is a merit that you can hear it unexpectedly.
This “recorder 2” has a feeling that enthusiasts tend to give up because of the rough feeling immediately after the start of the live, but when the recording environment settled down, it was in a monaural and core recording state.
Above all, the acoustic set is clearly easier to hear than “recorder 1”, and it is undeniable that it was overlooked before reaching the charm of these parts due to the troubles in the early stages as mentioned above.
In addition, the acoustic set has a very good plant, and even more so, his lively songs that could not be transmitted from “recorder 1” will be reflected freshly. On the other hand, there was a scene that made me laugh when I heard that the performance of “Ten Years Gone” was totally uncomfortable, and how the performance improved on April 27 of the super classic “DESTROYER” which was the next stage. Of course, the cuts that occur frequently are extremely painful, and it is unavoidable that we cannot attract more attention than “recorder 1”. After all, in “No Quarter” etc., the taper stopped recording at the moment when Johnsy’s improvisation started, and there is a glimpse of a “no more” reaction.

ZEP1977年のルイヴィルと言えば2007年に発掘された新音源として当時、多くのアイテムを生み出したものです。その実ステレオのオーディエンス録音ではあったものの「音の端々が歪む」あるいは「ピッチが低い」といった問題を抱えており、貴重な新音源だった一方でハードルの高い音源という感も否めないものでした。
案の定2007年当時のアイテム以外には新たなタイトルがリリースされる気配もなく、結局は1977年ツアーのマニア向け音源という位置づけで終わってしまったのではないでしょうか。
そこであおりを食らってしまったのが同日の別音源、いわば「recorder 2」。こちらはオープニングの「The Song Remains The Same」や「No Quarter」に大きな欠損が生じたのを始めとしたカットが頻発。おまけに「Nobody’s Fault But Mine」まではマイクを固定できなかったのか、音像が遠くなってしまうというトラブルも頻発。
はっきり言ってマニア向け音源であることに変わりないのですが、それでも「recorder 1」にはないメリットもちゃんとあるのです。

基本的にどちらの音源にも歪みがあり、それが当日の会場におけるZEPからの出音が大きかったという事を物語っているのですが、それでも「In My Time Of Dying」が安定し、なおかつ「recorder 1」にあったような音の端々の歪みがない分、意外なほど聞き込めてしまうというメリットが。
ライブ開始直後の荒くれ感からマニアが諦めてしまいがちな感のある今回の「recorder 2」なのですが、録音環境がいざ落ち着いてみればモノラルで芯のある録音状態であったのです。
中でもアコースティック・セットは「recorder 1」よりもはっきり聞きやすく、先のような序盤のトラブルからこうしたパートの魅力に到達する前に見過ごされてしまっていた感が否めません。
おまけにアコースティック・セットはプラントが非常に好調で、なおさら「recorder 1」からは伝わり切らなかった彼のいきいきとした歌いっぷりが新鮮に映ることでしょう。一方で「Ten Years Gone」の演奏がまるでパッとしないという、聞いていて苦笑させられるような場面もあり、次のステージであった超定番「DESTROYER」の4月27日でいかに演奏が向上していたのかを痛感させられるかと。

もちろん頻発するカットに関しては痛恨の極みであり、どうしても「recorder 1」を超える注目を集めることが出来ないというのは致し方ない。何しろ「No Quarter」などはジョンジーのインプロが始まった瞬間にテーパーが録音を止めており、いかにも「もういいや」的な反応が垣間見られるもの。
